This is the intake barrel for the micro hydro system. After the screen intake box has pulled the water from the creek this is the next step. The barrel acts as an air free source and a silt catchment. This little creek has tons of very fine silt that builds up during a rain. To build this barrel I take a 55 gallon plastic barrel and install uniseal tank to pipe fittings. You can find those here:

These uniseal are easy to install and hold the pipe very well.
I install an overflow pipe to take the extra water out of the system. Then I install a cleanout from a 3" pipe to clean the tank when it gets full of silt.
