Thanks for the video. I’ve not really done any intarsia knitting before and have started a patterned blanket which uses this technique. I have soo many ends after 3 rows as I thought you needed to cut the yarn at each row, but now seeing this, I think I can rectify the holes and make the pattern look nicer from now on!!!

I’m new to intarsia & appreciate this clearly explained video. I have a question for which I’ve been unable to find an answer & hope you can help. If the contrasting color on the Purl side (for instance the green in the video) is picked up several stitches out to the side from the last green (knitted) row, that seems to create a float. Is there any way to correct that? Should the float be limited to 5 or less stitches? Thanks very much.

You had said that intarsia is usually used for flat works, but I'm considering it for my color change in the heel of a sock. Would this be a preferred method, or is there something better suited for that?

If the pattern is a half diamond repeated along the front and back of the sweater, and the the next half diamond at the tip is 11 stitches apart How do you weave it without leaving a long float which would catch on things particularly if the sweater is for a two year old?

You began the swatch using Continental knitting but changed to British knitting to accomplish the intarsia pattern. Is it not possible to work intarsia in Continental knitting? I ask because I am strongly dominant with Continental and not nearly as deft as a thrower. Your work is lovely and your explanation clear...however, I will keep looking for a completely Continental version of the technique.
@Linda-zf8vs

You make Intarsia look so easy. I'm amazed that you don't have any loose stitches at the transitions. You don't seem to be pulling them tight, just knitting at regular tension. This goes against all other videos I've seen. Is it true that you aren't doing anything special, other than crossing the yarns, at the transition?

Hi Cindy - you CAN introduce a new color on the purl row, but it's much easier to do it form the right side. Good luck!

thanks for video! i can't find help with a question I have anywhere. hoping you can help. I made a chart, but the increases in color on some parts are not just one stitch over -- some are 4 stitches to right, for instance. i can't figure out how to deal with that when knitting intarsia. the problematic pattern parts are the outline of a character. it's a character in white with a black outline. my only idea is to just use a duplicate stitch for the outline. because if two rows of pattern are like: xxxxxoooxxxxx xooooxxxooooo with x black and o white, i can't see an elegant way to pick up the white on the second row. does that make sense? any suggestions?

Mary Algar I'm also trying to make a maple leaf in a blanket. Did you do the far isle method or intarsia? I don't know which one would be best
@maryalgar8779
@maryalgar8779 7 лет назад
Hi Monica. I think I basically did Intarsia because of my maple leaf pattern. It turned out OK. I'm still not really comfortable with the Intarsia, but I think it's good to learn it. Depending on the complexity of your Maple Leaf, Intarsia might work best. Good luck with it.
