“That gray issued one is pretty unruly.” No words have ever been spoken truer especially when going in an out of a vehicle the size of a M113 or just carrying it. I ended up getting THYF- GMP for mine. Keeps it attached to my body and out of the way the best for my system.
I've been in possession of what I used in the Air Force when Reagan was our boss, the M-17A1. I recently ordered new cheek filters for it, but I'm still working up the enthusiasm to change them.
@@kangaroo4527 I looked it up on line, but it escapes me where I ordered them from. They're a bitch to change, as I recall from the CBR/NBC training I got back then. But, it'd be best if I give it a try. The newer masks would probably work better, since they require the 40mm NATO filters you can easily screw into the side.
Defence Mechanisms collapsable gas mask bag is my absolute favorite gas mask carrier I have ever used. When using the mask you can collapse the bag with a zipper just like the haley flat pack does so you dont have this big empty floppy bag hanging off your leg getting caught on everything.
@@TheGruntPerspective I reccomend getting one if you get the chance. It fits my m50 with both filters attached to the mask and the extra filters case but it is a snug fit. Not sure if it would work with the speaker attached. It also doesnt have a "quick" opening velcro tab to get access to it in under a second if thats something your command SOP requires cuz it is a dual zipper closure, but you can grab between the dual zippers and "rip" it open if needed. Or you can always find a Mama-San to sew a quick tab for you lol.
Camelbak does make an adapter for Camelbak hose/bladder. The adapter is properiteriary to camelbak, and their hose system. I haven't had the chance to test it out yet.
Yeah, pretty sure I have a kit in a duffel somewhere still in the factory packaging. I forget what specifically caused it but at one point supply had a million of the little kits and we were all given one.
Great video. I like the new Ferro mask pouch. A couple of other things to think about: 1. If you need the mask, decon can take awhile to get there. For your squad, keep a bunch of a bags filled with canteens w the NBC caps. You’ll need a lot more water than what’s on your team’s person. 2. Think through what your team where your second JSLIST is. If you need the mask, you don’t want your second JSLISTS in rucksacks that might get slimed too. Talk it out w your company where/how you get those things.
511 tactical came out with a decent gas mask pouch that can be run as a drop leg pouch. It has a buckle that can be left on the belt and then the pouch can be clipped on as needed.
Well done .used rigger contact to mod a M17 carrier with snap hooks to hook on 782 belt and web loop with drigs on web belt to wear when not in 782 gear had the attached straps rigger taped rolled out of the way if needed in MOPP gear 5:52
You’re doing it exactly how I started doing it when I went to ISLC in 07, same carrier, stripped off the buckle on the drop and ditched the top leg strap. Attached to the pants belt. IMO it’s the only viable way to run a gas mask if you need to
Before the first gulf war we did a TON of NBC training. I went carried it everywhere! I have two stories: 1. We did a MOPP hump at Camp Hansen. It was only 6 miles. First 3 miles were easy. Then went through the MOPP levels. I could feel my gloves fill with sweat! 2. During the move into Kuwait we went MOPP 2. My mask carrier rubbed me raw and scabbed to my pants. It sucks but it is important!
People forget that you need to have a decontamination system if you're facing anything worse than CS. I see people get full cbrn kit, but not invest anything into a dedicated decontamination area.
@@TheGruntPerspective I would never want to fight in such an environment, but I have cbrn kit stashed around in car and few other places so I can use it to get the fuck out of the danger at the very least.
Best way I have used a gas mask on kit is the eagle industries carrier that molle's and wearing it on my PC cummerbund and it's pretty seamless and doesn't mess with much. Rocked it for about 3 years because of where I was. Or use the GUSS that ferro just released if you don't want it dedicated to your kit.
Polish Army has some kind of unhealthy fetish for constantly wearing gas masks on your gear... It was quite useful. And the gas mask issued bag must be a NATO standard - I had an impression that you talked about ours issued gasmask pouch. Same f thing: tear apart after a week, it's gray(perfect for camouflage near a burning cement factory), huge and uncomfortable.
@@TheGruntPerspective It is important to note that a pouch virtually identical to the one presented by you is available in Poland via different tactical tailor/company. Companies around the world solve the problems of grunts in a similar way.
I'm having this very issue right now. I was using a drop leg gas mask pouch, attached to my inner belt, and all was fine with it, but I have recently added a blowout kit and its a drop leg too. So, I slung my gas mask pouch over my shoulder, using a general purpose strap and its less than optimal.
Unrelated, but I heard an Army Ranger mention he put suspenders on his inner belt. I wonder if you've tried that because I love my war belt and have yet to try a two piece system but I think it'd keep the flexibility of the outer belt while being more comfortable like belt kit
@@TheGruntPerspective I figure that wouldn't work as well, plus it defeats the modularity of a two piece belt. He did it on the inner so he didn't have it too tight around his waist and his shoulders could support the belt while still being able to don and doff the outer belt easily
i keep the m40 mask clipped to my pistol belt, question for you tho is how can i ruck comfortably whilst having a gun belt. trying to modernize my equipment so im no longer wearing a buttpack n such
