Was originally looking at trying to fit a 13900k into an ITX build with my 4080 for a new 3D work station but the heat output from i7 and i9's just seems too heavy for ITX cases and would most likely cause me more problems than anything. Most my rendering will be GPU, and the single core performance of the i5 for active modelling is still great when OC'd/ in boost.

My budget for cpu & gpu is about 800 bucks. Would you recommend the 13600k and a used 3080(~$500) or the 13700k and a used 3060ti/3070(~$300-400). Primary workflow involves davinci resolve and photoshop. Upgrading from a 2015 iMac, so pretty much anything is an upgrade. It would be great to see a bang for your buck gpu&cpu combos video. Same motherboard, storage, ram, and aio cooler. A lot of the comparison videos show the 13th gen cpus coupled with one gpu, or all the rtx cards with the same cpu. Showing how a higher end cpu coupled with a mid range gpu preforms vs the high end gpu with a mid range cpu would be really fun to see. (Also add the mid+mid and high +high) I bet you’ll find a sweet spot for performance per dollar. With the gpu market coming coming back to reality(especially the used market) there are a lot of options for cpu&gpu combos that won’t break the bank.

@Deadeye313
@Deadeye313 Год назад
@@mastroitek there's not really much pros to not getting the IGPU except a few bucks. But the biggest con I found is hidden from most gamers: the UHD770 is great as a streamlabs renderer. I have a 13600k and did a flight simulator stream just yesterday on twitch (and anyone can go see the vod if they like) and it looked great on the 6000 kbps and "quality" render setting with the QSV renderer. Was only 720P because I'm not affiliate but it only used 16% of the IGPU and it left the rest of my system to focus on the game. Temperature cost was an extra 6-7°C on cpu over pure gaming but I was able to play without any stream related performance hit. And going from like 66° to 72/73 isn't too bad. So if anyone has any inclination to ever stream, get the IGPU and use it.

Good afternoon / morning / evening / whatever..... I have an odd question and possible suggestion for a new video. I am a part time creator currently using a 10 year old PC. i7-3770, GeForce GT710, 2 TB Sata SSD, 1TB WD 7200 drive, 16GB DDR3 99.8 mhz. Clearly I need an upgrade, but I don't have a lot of money to spend all at once. My question is, what if I build a new PC with Z690, i9 13900K, 64 GB Ram, 2TB nvme m.2 gen 4, 2TV nvme m.2 for data with NO GPU (yet). If I get the i9, that costs as much as a mid level GPU. Would the i9 have as much or more capability as my current system? I could add a GPU in the future. I want to future proof as much as possible. Thanks for considering this weird request.
@Eiscy
@Eiscy Год назад
I think Gen13, no matter i5, i7, i9, each one will improve your work greatly. But I think GPU is necessary for video creator. No matter how RTX 4000, 3000, 2000, even if 1000 series, you need one first. And so maybe you can consider buy 13900k or 13700k and used GPU(2060 2070 whatever) which is much cheaper. Then upgrade GPU months latter. GT710's CUDA is too few to use. If you want, you can try to use 137/900k‘s graph for 'EMERGENCY USE' for weeks. But for me that is unacceptable. By the way, I think RTX 4000 series are too expensive to buy. 3000 series are still good.

I really appreciate the video and this was a great representation of all stats of each cpu however I will point out the 13900k does make sense given the choices a 4090 qconsumer has. An i7 is a complete bottleneck for a 4090 especially if you choose to game at 1440p. Now you might be wondering why would somebody want to game at 1440 with a 4090? Simply because some people don’t want the hassle of not being able to max everything out but also for the higher refresh rates for certain games. Maybe on 4k an i7 might slide. The 7950x3d requires a whole platform change and the cpu doesn’t make sense to spend 40% over normal price from scalpers. That being said the price point to pay 100 more than a i9, more money for an am5 board and ram simply doesn’t justify the cost of power savings to performance when an undervolted and slightly overclocked i9 will smoke it. So I’d say a 13900k or ks makes sense in that respect.

@@DETERMINOLOGY like I said it’s mainly for longevity. The extra 2 cores 4 threads can add another 1-2 years of use which is worth $100 🤷🏻‍♂️. 13600k only has 6 p cores which is fine for now. I expect all 13th gen CPUs to roughly perform the same up to 6 cores. After that differences can be made. Consoles have 8 cores so I would recommend anyone in 2023 to atleast match the consoles
@DETERMINOLOGY
@DETERMINOLOGY Год назад
@@mikeramos91 def not the same. When talking about consoles and pc. Also if you was right everyone would be raving over the i7 that’s not the case but you said your a i7 guy so there. End of it all it’s not worth 100$ I’m sorry 2 cores 4 threads will shave off a few sec in rendering and a few more frames in games definitely not worth it and I would get a better gpu which would gain you much more in games. This ain’t like the old years with the I7 being wicked in power compared to the i5. The 13600 and 13700 performs that close to where it’s meh. Two cores 4 threads is a short gain. Now give me 4 cores 8 threads. Ok now we talking then I would say yea

@@vik6092 I picked up a bundle in Micro center that included the CPU, mobo and ram for 350-400 ish. Don't remember exactly how much. Then with the case, cooler, GPU, etc the total was something like 2,200 with some protection plans and windows 11. I haven't tried Rt in too many games. I won't say it is perfect but I tried fortnite at 1080p and with all maxed and FSR on performance it was something like 80 FPS. Im planning to update to a 1440p monitor but for the meantime everything reaches 144 frames at 1080p. And the temps are super good. And did I told you that the card has 24gb of Vram? Compared to the 4070ti that has 12 it's basically the doble and I'm waiting for FSR 3.0 but I for most AAA games will run like butter.

I get slightly higher single core score on my i7-12700K than your i5-13600K and i rather have 8 perfomance cores than 6.
@DETERMINOLOGY
@DETERMINOLOGY Год назад
That would make sense. One problem the 13600k beats it even in gaming meaning the 8 core vs 6 core goes out the window. The 13600k as a whole beats the 12700k all day
@saricubra2867
@saricubra2867 Год назад
@@DETERMINOLOGY It doesn't beat it, it's basically the same. The thing is the i7-12700K has more strong threads than the i5-13600K, any gaming difference would be the overclocked RAM and the i5-13600K does have a better memory controller than the i7-12700K and games like higher speed RAM.
@saricubra2867
@saricubra2867 Год назад
@@DETERMINOLOGY If i run a PS3 emulator, my i7-12700K would rekt that i5 because it scales pretty well with the p-cores and i have AVX512 instructions. The i5-13600K is like 1 or 2 degrees hotter than the i7 because it has higher clockspeeds because it needs 2 more P-cores, so my i7-12700K is holding up pretty well, not only against that i5, but the Zen 4 Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7.
@saricubra2867
@saricubra2867 Год назад
@@DETERMINOLOGY i5-13600K is a heavily overclocked i7-12700H laptop chip that has a 6+8 config, another thing that i like about the i7-12700K is that it has very good perfomance at low power levels, note that this depends on the quality of the motherboards and the sillicon quality.

i used to buy i7s and i9s previous generations, so i kind of "downgraded" to i5 this time around... love how efficient it is and still super fast. i dont think ill bother to go back to i7s or i9s until they start making more sense and get more reasonable with power draw, seems like upgrading more often and just sticking to i5s might be the way forward for me now. i5s used to be bad for long time, but yeah things change.
