Testing was done using parts we acquired entirely on our own, including from retailers, as open components available on retail channels. Other components, like the Intel i5-11600K and i9-11900K, remain under embargo until a future date as they were provided by Intel. Watch our full explainer of the Intel power limits (PL1, PL2, Tau), TDP, and motherboard behaviors: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4th6YElNm5w.html Watch our Intel Core i7-11700K CPU review & benchmarks here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3n0_UcBxnpk.html The best way to support our work is through our store. So u buy a 11700k for force limits in a K intel version? You know K version don't have cooler in the box? For 90% people play games at home they dont care like me about Watts... Is this video a "look im gonna explain why others guys in youtube get better results" ofc they have, no one buy a 11700k and put a mid range board and enter bios to lower cpu performance this is a complete joke.

I can see why some reviewers use the motherboards out of the box config, as that is the experience that most people will probably get. Really the boards should come out of the box complying with the Inel and/or AMD spec. Removing the boosting limits should be an auto OC function in the BIOS that can be turned on if so desired with a warning about power consumption noise and thermals.
@crisnmaryfam7344

but at the same time a power user who understands the functions of the motherboard, such as my i5 9400F on an AsRock b356 pro 4 mobo, with their version of this tech my LOCKED non K series intel chip boosts to over 4.3ghz, its a 2.9/4.1 locked chip. @user-xr3rb6pn9m
@user-xr3rb6pn9m 3 года назад
That's a misleading metric, as the relation between performance and power consumption is far from linear. As you can see in this video, a different motherboard brought up to 10% of performance improvement at the cost of something like extra 50% of power consumption. And the highest performance per watt would be probably achieved by some Celeron or Pentium.
@luziferius3687
@luziferius3687 3 года назад
@@user-xr3rb6pn9m Best performance per watt on X86 are probably some mobile processors like the AMD 4800U or high core count server CPUs at low clocks. Intel can’t compete against the node advantage in that metric. Or disable the boost clocks to gain more on that metric with desktop processors. I can unplug my CPU fan entirely during heavy all core load (like x265/AV1 encoding), and it simply runs entirely passively cooled at ~2GHz all core clock.

Competition is a good thing, it's better than before when Intel was barely improving until AMD started kicking Intel's ass so they were forced to try to finally get their butts in gear and try improving their CPUs. Yeah, "cheating" the results like this is not a good way to compete, however as pointed out, it just makes Intel look even worse in comparison, not better. It makes their CPUs look even more power hungry and hotter than they really are, for minimal gains that still are outclassed by comparable AMD cpus. Intel is going to be forced to actually make good CPUs (Assuming they can ever figure out how to go smaller than 14nm) to compete as this "cheating" just hurts them in the long run and won't last long.

I would love to see an “ELI5 Overclocking Guide to Rocket Lake” where it shows disable this, increment this till unstable, then back it off. I know it would be challenging but it’s gotten too complicated even for someone who builds computers, works as Tech Support, and considers himself an enthusiast. In fact, Steve, you’ve admitted many times and even recently that it’s overwhelming for you guys and that you’re still better than most but far from the best/professional. Think of it this way this CPU has 8/16 cores and threads, which is more than enough for both gaming and some mid-tier software editing. If you have a decent GPU, it won't be bottlenecked by this CPU. Run it in gear mode 1 and if possible use a CL 16 RAM at 3200 or 3600 dual or quad channel setup, 1000W+ PSU, a nice cooler either an AIO or a well planned Airflow system preferably vertical system to work with convection rules of physics to allow for better air circulation. And you should be golden. This is my objective standing. But if we go into this subjectively. There is no point in comparing CPUs. My advice, don't buy anything, save enough money to buy the best bang for the buck and recycle every 10 years. Because obviously, a cheaper 11700k won't work as well as a high-end Threadripper. So why waste money buying a cheap thing where you can just be patient save money and get the best thing out there? Everything is a waste of sand in that worldview. However, if you absolutely need to buy something and feel that "Oh yis, I didn't buy this stupidly" then go ahead and buy something that costs 10$ more and performs 5.7% less than this CPU, which is pointless nowadays, cos anything above 120fps (which all these new CPUs will be able to provide if they are manufactured properly) shouldn't really matter for gaming nor streaming (if streaming is not your main job, otherwise again, why buy cheap shit, go for the most bang for the buck if you plan to 120% invest yourself in that field). Therefore, I strongly stand against the notion of saying any product manufactured is pointless. Especially when it is by a large company like Intel or AMD. Not me, nor Steve nor Linus, no one except the companies themselves are privy to all the required information to say exactly why these CPUs were built. Pretty sure, bad decisions get made, but they get made for the right consumer reasons. Otherwise their respective business models wouldn't work in the longer term. And here is a hot take for this particular case: If you have two similar products and you buy the cheap one and leave the "expensive" or generationally newer one at the shelf you will be doing what you are required to do. The best way to sell something from last batch is to make a new batch that is very similar to the new one yet is more favorably priced. So consumers will gravitate towards finishing unsold stocks. Ofc intel won't make more 10700K so the one to replace it will be 11700k. 12700k will be of the same logic. Unless you go for the most bang for the buck. You will be stuck in this *buy the old one cos it's the same and cheaper* loop. And you will improve your setup much, much slower than you'd anticipate or plan for it. To conclude: My current setup is ASUS rampage Extreme IV with core i7-3930k and 16gb HyperX blu 1600Mhz ram, Cooler Master Air cooler, 700W PSU with a GTX 1070 8GB no SSD and 1TB hard drive. I made this build back in 2013, which was the most bang for the buck at the time and had cost me close to 4000$ VAT and shipping costs included. The only change I made to it, was add an 240 Kingston SSD around 2017. But that was it and it runs like water to this day. I can play most games on it above 120fps (League of Legends, World of Warcraft, CSGO, Dota 2, heck even No Man's Sky runs on it with decent above 60fps on ultra settings). My point being, if I hadn't gone for the most bang for the buck at that time( I wasn't doing so well financially at the time too), I might have needed to swap out more parts throughout the years and it would cost me more than the 4k I put in the beginning. If and this is a big if, I decide to upgrade now (which I have no issue doing now since I am doing pretty well financially), I would still go for the most bang for the buck. That would last me another 10 or even 15 years (again if all the parts work properly as they should out of the box). Unless consumer grade quantum computing or quantum computational gaming emerges sooner than expected, that, I can't plan for. Then I would have to swap out to that new system/platform. Thank you for your time if you actually read all of this :D

it's the same everywhere, every reviewer is breaking the 11th gen down to the ground when it is actually a good cpu, the 1% lows are always better then 10th gen, and when 10th gen is worse you emphasis the faster AMD, yeah like that you can show off everything to be bad. Gen 11 isnt shit, but its not bias to call it bad, since it HEATS alot, Consumes Alot, without providing more performance. Gen 11 cant compete with gen 12, and i doesnt beat the ryzens 5000 series. Another reason gen 11 is labeled as bad its because of its "flagship" i9 11900k, which is literally an overclocked i7 11700k, and because of less cores, 11900k loses to 10900k in alot of things :/

Since most people buying K skews presumably are going for max, or near max, overclocking, wouldn't that mostly be irrelevant? I mean on Ryzen where manual overclocking is pretty pointless, and has a real chance of degrading the CPU, it'd make sense, because most people run those stock.

I have a suggestion for a video: Full Tower vs Mid Tower - have full tower case manufacturers lost the plot? There are a huge number of "mid tower" cases which can fit three or more 360mm radiators at the same time. But if you look at "full tower" cases, which are supposed to be bigger, nearly all of those are designed for only 360mm radiators as well - at most they seem to offer one 420mm radiator slot, and even if they say they have multiple slots for 420mm radiators, when you check, they DON'T have the room to have more than one installed at a time! If mid towers are 120mm fan based, going up to 360mm radiators, then surely, by logic, the reason to pay the extra to go to full tower is to switch to quieter and more efficient 140mm fan based systems which can hold three 420mm radiators at the same time? If full tower doesn’t give full 140mm fan and multiple simultaneous 420mm radiator support (at least 3 at the same time), in the same way that mid towers already give full 120mm fan and multiple 360mm radiator support, then what’s the point in them even existing? Why would anyone buy them? Is it that much of an ask for case manufacturers to add a couple more centimetres of room to fit these in so enthusiasts can have a zero thermal throttling solution to their overclocking top end thread ripper CPU and GPU custom water loops?

Got a 10700k when I couldn't reasonably upgrade from my 2700x because AMD CPUS were vaporware. Expected to maybe upgrade to 11 series but I guess I'm just going to HODL until Ryzen 6000.

For gaming the 10700K is an excellent CPU and for productivity it is not bad! The 10700K and will see you through the next few years oof high end gaming with no issues. The 11700K is not a good upgrade though we knew Intel were going to be behind the curve until Alder Lake hits, ...and who knows even when Alder Lake hits, they may still be behind the curve. I have the 10700K overclocked to 5.1GHz all core at 1.278v on a 360mm AIO and have no temp issues whatsover...sadly the one thing I want to upgrade is a better GPU but you cannot find one for the retail price ala the RTX 3080! I have the RTX 2080...

Upgrading every generation is, in most cases, absolutely stupid. It's been many many years since we got generational improvements that were worth it. Sandy Bridge were one of the few instances where it made sense. Bulldozer to Zen was another. Not because Zen was THAT awesome but because Bulldozer should have been strangled in its umbilical cord.....

the 10700k is enough for a few years...same as the 5600x at stock and out performs it when overclocked... a perfect gaming cpu....wait till 12th gen or the next amd cpu's to upgrade... 12th gen is meant to be insane from what ive been reading....

Sorry Steve but I had to post this from Userbenchmark, it is F**KING HILARIOUS !!!! Intel Core i7-11700K €344 The i7-11700K is the second fastest CPU in Intel’s 11th Gen Rocket Lake-S lineup. Rocket Lake brings higher IPC (early samples indicate +19%) and 50% stronger integrated graphics. There are several 500 series chipset improvements including: 20 PCIe4 CPU lanes (up from 16) and USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20 Gbps up from 10 Gbps). Rocket Lake’s IPC uplift translates to around a 10% faster Effective Speed than both Intel's 10th Gen and AMD’s 5000 series. Despite Intel’s performance lead, AMD continues to outsell Intel. Given Intel's colossal R&D operation, it's bewildering that their marketing remains so neglected. Little effort is made to counter widespread disinformation such as: “it uses too much electricity”, or the classic: “it needs more cores”. Intel’s samples are often distributed to reviewers that appear better incentivized to bury Intel's products rather than review them realistically. Not enabling XMP or only testing with BIOS power limits enabled is akin to leaving the handbrake on during a timed lap, sackable. A mind-numbing list of irrelevant “scientific” and rendering benchmarks are presented as gospel. When it's convenient, unrepresentative canned game benchmarks are chosen e.g. ulletical’s CSGO which runs at nearly double the in-game fps. Different games, mostly unplayed by real users, are cherry picked for each “review”. At every release, AMD’s marketers circle overhead coordinating narratives to ensure another feast of blue blubber ensues. Credible benchmark data, which necessarily includes replicable video footage from popular games, is the exception rather than the rule. Nonetheless, towards the end of 2021, Intel’s Golden Cove is due to offer an additional 20-30% performance increase. At that time, with a net 30-40% performance lead, Intel will probably regain significant market share, regardless of AMD's class-leading marketing. [Feb '21 CPUPro]

Prices for GPUs have gone up due to multiple factors. Asus and MSI have already discussed this. The dramatic price increase of MSRP is insane.

Intel could enforce those limits more strictly, but that would result in lower scores across the board. Luckily for Intel benchmarks are irrelevant except for the ones in which they do well.

i 7 10700k > i7 11700k. Just see the prices to confirm the information, the performance per dollar is better.
