Atari bought Intellivision is big news.
Atari announced today it has purchased the Intellivision brand and certain games from Intellivision Entertainment LLC. The group formally known as ,Intellivision Entertainment LLC will rebrand and continue its business of developing and “distributing” the Amico brand game console with a license from Atari to continue to distribute new versions of the Intellivision games on the Amico console.
Atari plans to produce digital and physical games as well as legacy Intellivision games, with the potential to produce new games with the Intellivision IP.
 This is very exciting news. I also touch on how the 2 Intellivision collections on Evercade may become Legacy collections considering Blaze Entertainment had ended its relationship with Atari and the Atari collections are now legacy collections that are out of production.

Hearing this news really left me without words. I grew up in the Intellivision community as a kid. I'm glad to hear Atari, acquired them. When I was teen, I migrated to the Atari side with the Lynx, Jaguar, Atari VCS, etc. I'm glad that I never got a Amico! Hopefully, we will start to see intelllivision games appear in the VCS Store now.

Yeah, I got my first Atari 2600 when I was 17 back in the early 2000s and I acquired my mom’s Atari light sixer a few years ago. Even though I didn’t really technically grow up with it I’ve always had a great appreciation for Atari. I first discovered Intellivision because of the Intellivision Lives collection on PS2 and eventually I got my own Intellivision. I would love to see some Intellivision recharged games on the VCS , especially nightstalker.

I'm really happy with the acquisition and hopefully we'll see the classic PS2 compilation "Intellivision Lives" released on modern consoles :-) Keep up the awesome work PK!

I still have my dad's intellivision. Got a joystick for it. I prefer it to the 2600. This is a good move and hopefully we'll see some intellivision recharged titles.

Nice , I still have my mom’s Atari light sixer. The only thing I get hung up with Intellivision is the controls, that joystick is awesome by the way. Intellivision recharged would be dope!

Not surprised. I would like to see them acquire rights to other properties that I haven't seen recent licensing activity with like the old Universal Arcade Games (last seen at home on Colecovision).

There was the Intellivision II and the Intellivision III but those were models of the original Intellivision.

Not for the amico cult it’s not. Controllers need to be redesigned,retail boxes the UI needs everything ripped out with the intellivision brand. MSM you think they are going to do that? No . They can’t even get amico home to run right

Amico deserved better than it got. Their cheezy business model was atrocious. The concept had potential to be somewhat cool but not $300 console-cool. Maybe Atari can do what should've been done in the first place. Publish all the reimaginings and original software in physical & digital collections for existing hardware.

Those Intellivison Evercade carts will sure go legacy, every legacy cart so far has had a years notice so plenty of time to get them. I'm sure cart 1 came with founder edition black VS so there is possibly more of those in circulation than the 2nd cart. Like Atari Collection 2, more sort after as Atari Collection 1 came in original Evercade bundles.
@PKInTheUniverse
@PKInTheUniverse Месяц назад
I don’t think Atari carts had a years notice I think that one was a lot shorter. I believe Codemasters and Piko 1 were basically announced instantly as being legacy carts. I’ll say one thing about the Atari and Intellivision collections is none of them have even close to the appeal of Piko 1 which is why that game commands such a high price. Then again the Lynx collections are different story because they have some songbirds IPs on them. It really sucks that the Evercade turned into a speculator market because of the legacy collections and all these completionist collectors, but I suppose that was inevitable.

@@PKInTheUniverse You might be confusing "to be made legacy" with "now legacy". 😉 Atari Lynx most defo had the shortest time as it felt like they were just added on as Atari Collection 1&2 went legacy. The Bitmap Brothers might make the hit list soon as they were connected & friends of Codemasters & Oliver Twins, or used to be back in the 90's. Piko 2 is a contender at some point. Plenty of time to be the next hoarder/reseller but that feels like hard work just thinking about it, it's easier to sit and watch what happens lol. 😀
@PKInTheUniverse
@PKInTheUniverse Месяц назад
Yeah, it’s hard to say because so many games have went legacy recently. I wouldn’t even consider buying games from fun stock unless I was going to buy like five or six. I think the only reason Piko 1 went legacy is because Atari bought back license from two of those games that are on Piko. Unless Piko sell off some of their IP’s, I think Piko 2 will be safe. We still keep getting piko collections but I doubt we will ever get any more Atari collections.

@@PKInTheUniverse Real shame as I so want all the great Midway games and the original Atari made Lynx games. Hard to believe Midway Origin's on 360/PS3 was the last time classic Midway games were available, even more beyond belief is that you can still buy the download version for 360 & xb1 compatible. We want Gauntlet now, no point having 4 joyports on Evercade otherwise lol. Also hard to believe lol, arcade1up managed to get some of the Midway games including Mortal Kombat, come on Blaze!!! 😀

Well those that were still hanging onto hope that the Amico was gonna come out (do such people truly exist) can now know for sure it’s not coming out. I wonder what’s gonna happen as far as lawsuits and such, surely the investors are gonna be suing, I wonder if this sale might have something to do with that.
@PKInTheUniverse
@PKInTheUniverse Месяц назад
Well, those people are still definitely holding out hope. The only thing that’s changed is they won’t have the Intellivision name , Amico is going to rebrand and has a license to use the games . I think a lot of these people are fantasizing about the idea of the Amico company putting these in production with the new cash, but honestly, they’re probably just gonna file bankruptcy now that they’ve crushed some debt.

They got some money, so they might have more possibilities to manufacture Amicos. But, what would people play on it? No Intellivision anymore, and there wasn't enough to begin with.

@PKInTheUniverse
@PKInTheUniverse Месяц назад
I doubt they’ll see their money. Even though the creators of Amico have sold the Intellivision IP , it sounds like they’re going to rebrand it and continue on their own. I would guess this sale will free up cash so they can finally put the thing in production.
@PaulWerkema
@PaulWerkema Месяц назад
@@PKInTheUniverse Yeah. Short of a class action lawsuit they probably won;t get anything. I would be shocked if the Amico went into production.
