Category 4 Hurricane Michael from the eastern tip of Panama City Beach, FL as I went mobile to try and reach the eye, but was prevented from doing so safely by projectile debris and crossing the bridges.
Please refer to my website www.ciclicoahuila.com for info. on my mission and lifestyle. I teach people here in Mexico, for free, how to find, harvest, and conserve water to cope with climate change induced drought. No, I don´t drive. Yes I use electricity. That is an unfortunate tradeoff to get my message out. !Saludos desde Mexico! old geologist ;-)
In Jacksonville, Fl, here. No storm impact, just minor gusts. We've been praying very much for all people impacted by Michael, just know people's hearts and love is with you.
Actually, it IS the wind. Ponder this: in a tornado or hurricane, if a person were catapulted by the wind, it would be a precarious situation, even if there were no debris. And the reason is simple: what goes up, must come down. And when a person comes down, they will hit - terra firma, a fire hydrant, a fence, a building, a telephone pole, asphalt, concrete, and a myriad of other objects - all of which could seriously injure/kill someone, upon impact. There doesn't need to be any debris in the air. But, even if the only debris were sand, it would cause tremendous injury, and even death. During the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane, people died from the injuries that were incurred from just being sand-blasted. As for the "dominator", it has limitations. Tornadoes can pick up train box cars, and trailers from 18 wheelers. They can pick up huge objects, and fling them through the air like toys. If one of those objects were to hit the "dominator", the occupants would be crushed like a tomato. The "dominator" is not impervious to the power of mother nature.
It may be running on a generator. Not sure if Florida does the same but several traffic lights in Alabama have little natural gas generators to keep them on during outages.
You were not meant to see clearly what happens in 155mph plus wind...it is a blinding mass of sand, water, and foam...just be glad you did not die filming this
Honey, “kindly go walk the dog.” Fine... Honey,” wheres the dog?”I don’t know baby he took off down the road. What!!! Go get him. Baby, “don’t worry about the dog, he will be back on the next pass.”
Generally storm chasers would pick a solid wall that blocks your vehicle from the wind and flying debris... This is just stupid, at one point you’re underneath the gas station shelter that you were just saying was going to come down...
That's some seriously deadly wind there! I've lived through several hurricanes here in eastern N.C. but thankfully most of the strongest winds seemed to stay 30feet or so above ground level. That wind in your video was at ground level. Severe damage everywhere. Glad you made it out alive brother!
Just inSANE. And you guys are very lucky to be unharmed, unscathed, because this is one of the more scarier and intense videos I’ve seen of a hurricane in action...EVER. This was just nuts.
He is a bravo. Hats off this gut who captured the real experience of this deadest hurricane. Its real worth watching and great job guys done at your own risk
You're crazy. Just the thought of a storm named "Michael" coming my way would have been enough to terrify me away and for obvious reasons too but; yet, you dared to venture out during the height of the storm to make this video. Thank you for posting the video because it was awesome.
You guys bring new meaning to the old reporter sloan, "Go out en' get the story!" I'm glad you're still alive and I'm even more glad I didn't go with you. That storm is beast!
This and the Hurricane Charley eye wall video that completely destroyed the racetrack gas station are the two most intense vids I've ever seen posted. Kudos.
Chiming in, now 3 years later, that then-Texaco was at the corner of Cherry St. and US 98 in Callaway, in eastern Panama City. My parents lived only a mile away from that station. We lost contact that morning around 10 am, when Michael was still a Cat 2 or 3. We saw where it hit as a Cat 5 and feared the absolute worst. You can't imagine the joy we felt when they finally got a hold of us the next morning when they finally got cell service just before I-10.
Surprised you guys weren't down in Mexico Beach. Just a quick hop but maybe the bridges were all closed by the time you realized you were just missing the strongest part. There's truly nothing like a hurricane. Cool video! Thanks and stay safe out there.
Freaking Weather Channel was in Mexico beach but Stephanie Abrams woosed out and pulled her whole crew and ran to PCB to be with Cantore. I'm sure he wouldn't have left had he been there. I haven't looked yet but I'm sure there will be some coming online if not by now. I'd rather watch the pros because I chase as well when I'm not slammed with running a business. I would've been there for sure. If she could get out of Mexico beach then you could get in. It's a bit of a ball drop if you ask me. I know it's dangerous but the people want to see the worst of the storm. Not the edges and certainly not the West side of the eyewall. It's fine to cover it but have the eye making landfall covered as well. At least as long as you can still transmit.
Phenomenal wind speed ferocity. Hope y'all are wearing motorcycle helmets, to protect your brain and eye sight. Maybe add some body armor for good measure, protecting vulnerable internal organs. All it would need is a well-aimed piece of debris to have taken everyone out. Nevertheless, it's dramatic footage to see.
They introduced the HERV, Hurricane Eyewall Research Video, last I saw of it, it was being tethered to a railing on a bridge with its weather detection devices in operation, then they recorded a drive by of it, I believe upon leaving. They would retrieve it later.
1:36 reminds me of Irma. It was unreal. My dad grew up experiencing strong storms and hurricanes. There's sort of this rule in my family that if my dad isn't worried, we have nothing to be scared of. He's a smart man. And he keeps his cool in dire situations. He was a commercial fisherman for years and grew up on an island that frequently experiences hurricanes and major storms and flooding. During Irma, he was concerned. He said he'd never seen anything like it. And if news reports and stats were correct, Michael was even worse. I can't imagine that. We thought 9 foot storm surges were had. Michael was projected to cause 14+. That's insane.
good luck folks experience you will never forget I had been in two hurricanes, but not this bad wind blew hard and it was hot and wind changed direction felt strange
Can't believe Reed Timmer is at a gas station I've ridden my bike to. This is unreal, and you don't believe it can happen to your town until it does. The strongest hurricane to hit the U.S. since 1969, crazy!
No its not... hurricane hugo In the 80s was a borderline category 5... Andrew was a 5 in the 90s. Katrina was a 5 in the 2000s. Get your facts str8. This was the largest to hit the panhandle. Not the continental US.
@Kahmal Garcia Katrina was a cat 5 at one point regardless. Hurricanes are rated based on sustained windspeed. There have been plenty of hurricanes with higher windspeeds than Michael since 1969.
I feel guilty for enjoying this. It's so exciting, yet we all know damn well we wouldn't be excited if this was our town. I can't believe Michael stayed as organized as it did. I live in VA and we still got 3+ inches of rain and 50+ mph gusts. Nature is a real mother, and sometimes mothers give you a swift kick in the arse.
Reed I’m kind of torn, do I thumbs up this (because I like it) or do I thumbs down it to stop encouraging you into harms way??!! I’ll thumbs up it for the effort, risk, quality... Be careful man!
Should have gone with your first thought as this guy's an idiot trying to get footage for a viral video and fame. Doesn't get much dumber than this. There's even a crack in his windshield.
Jerfish Entertainment I feel the same, except that I want to thumbs up because the video has great footage,but....I want to thumbs down because the guy talking is annoying!,&he's not using good judgement by being in a hurricane with winds over 100mph,&he's sooi close to the canopy area, which cld rip off&impale him thru the windshield,or crush him!😲
