In this video, we explore Issaqueena Falls and speak of the Native American legend that gave the falls its name. After that, we go through the pre-civil war Stumphouse tunnel and speak about the history. Stumphouse Park provides access to both of these historic places. Also, across the street, you'll find Yellow Branches Trail.

Issaqueena Falls, near Walhalla, South Carolina, is a 100 ft (30 m) high cascade waterfall in the Oconee District of the Sumter National Forest.[1]
The falls are named for a legendary Cherokee girl who is said to have leaped from the top of the falls with her lover, either an Oconee brave, a white trader named Allan Francis, or a white silversmith named David Francis. In the story, Issaqueena and her lover either die together or they land on a ledge out of sight of hostile tribesmen and eventually live happily ever after.[2]
The waterfall is close to another notable local landmark, Stumphouse Tunnel, and a park provides access to both.[3]
Stumphouse Mountain Tunnel in Oconee County, South Carolina is an incomplete railroad tunnel for the Blue Ridge Railroad of South Carolina in Sumter National Forest.[2][3] The tunnel, along with nearby Issaqueena Falls, are now a Walhalla city park. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.[1]

When I was a student there, the gate wasn't locked so you could go all the way to the end of the tunnel. There were shafts where they dug down from above that you could look up from inside, but the water was pouring down, so you got a shower. Really cool though on a hot day.

From what I remember it was June 2021 on a weekend. If you go to Cleveland, it has an amazing mountain hike called Mount Yonah. I highly recommend it!
