I have huge issues with fusible interfacing/fleece etc. I've tried every method and instruction, and sometimes it fuses beautifully, and other times it ends up in a wrinkly mess (I hate it most when it looks like it has fused beautifully to your fabric, so you sew up a bag as a present for someone, then a few days later you notice that the fabric has wrinkled up due to the dodgy interfacing!). It's the fact that there is no rhyme or reason as to why it sometimes works, and why it sometimes fails - at least that I can ascertain, and I've tried so many tricks. So I really appreciate this video, thanks a million! :D

Extremely helpful! I am just starting to experiment with bags and I will admit interfacing has been overwhelming. I recently spent about an hour in Joanne's fingering and debating on the myriad of interfacings and left without buying a thing. Now I know where to start, thanks so much!!!

I tried your method with a 5 x 7 piece of fabric and the 809 and oh my God it actually worked. If I could reach out and hug you I would because I was ready to go back to Joanne’s tell them this is a piece of you know what and I wanted my money back. I did get a really good deal on the 505 spray but why pay extra money for Fusible if it wasn’t going to work? I’m guessing that when I do the larger sections, I will iron it from the middle out doing one small section at a time Thank you, thank you thank you ❤❤

Thanks for telling what iron you use, I was going to ask. I discovered the same thing about the wool mat. It’s great for piecing but does not work for interfacing. I stopped using the pressing cloth after speaking to you at Road to California a few years ago. Very helpful video.👍🏻

Thank you for sharing your experiences and amazing tips. What’s the difference in a clapper and just a small piece of 2X4 or something similar? TIA

Really helpful!! I have your pattern calling for 809. Ugh... i so wish patterns would give a second option for interfacing. I have both decovil products. You are a fabulous teacher! Thank you 😊 Jo Ann Austin

Excellent video. Thank you for demonstrating each type vs. just simple explanation alone. Also, would you do a video on sewing with Linen. That is new for me with bag making. THANKS!

I am hoping someone out there could possibly tell me if I can use fusible interfacing with cotton spandex? I have tons of cool custom fabrics but a lot of my favorites that I would like to make bags with are CL. Thanks so much for any advice

Thank you for this very clear instructional video which has given me confidence to know which interfacing to use and how to adhere them successfully. I’m fairly new to bag making and have had all sorts of problems adhering interfacing due to my total lack of knowledge- no longer thanks to watching this.

what is the board you are ironing on? So cute! Also, can I use parchment paper on my ironing board to protect it from glue?
@SewManyCreations
@SewManyCreations Год назад
It’s from TNT Quiltboards out of MA. It’s so well made and handy! You could try parchment paper but I have not tried that myself so I don’t know for sure! Maybe just try a bit to make sure it doesn’t cause any issues.

What temperature do you use for The Deco Bond with your T-shirt press and how long to press it thank you

This was incredibly helpful. Thank you. I found using fleece alone shrinks the pattern piece. I wonder if attaching sf101 first would help.

In my quest for understanding interfacings for pouches and bags I came across your RU-vid channel. I had purchased some deco bond and could not for the life of me get it to stick on the fabric. I watched your demo on using a clapper to help it adhere to the fabric. While I don't have a clapper I do have a large ham. So I did as you instructed and instead of putting a clapper on it I laid the heavy ham on top of it. Worked like a charm! Can't thank you enough I thought that I had just wasted money on purchasing this interfacing.

Thank you so much for sharing all your experience and knowledge. I've been binge watching your videos. I can't wait to make some of your patterns. You have so many great designs. But I'm a newbie so I'm waiting for the tutorials.

Thanks for this! I am like you - I ignore the instructions. I find some interfacing does better with a little steam, and some makes my fabric wrinkle like crazy with steam. Interfacing is so tricky because it also depends on the type of fabric you are using. I find it takes a long time to get decor bond or heavier to adhere to canvas, for instance, because it's thicker fabric and takes longer for the heat to permeate through. The only interfacing that I like to use and know will never be a problem is SF101, but like you said, it's insufficient for stiff projects.

Great video I learned so much! I make memory bears and have trouble with Pellon interfacing adhering! I have used the 911, 906 and also the 944. I do have a shirt press as well. What temperature do you set the shirt press for?
@SewManyCreations
@SewManyCreations 2 года назад
I believe I have it set for 290° or 300° 45 seconds for 809 decor bond. I’m sorry but I’m not in my office today to double check. I do have a separate video on using the T-shirt press and I know the temperature setting is mentioned in that one!

Love this advice! Always fun to learn improved techniques. A sort of related question: Why do you think my sewing machine (a Juki DXL 7) needs a jeans needle to sew through SF101? Is it really a needle issue? Or is this a machine issue? An SF101 issue? I don’t mind using a jeans needle, but I do wonder if it is stressing the fabric because the hole are bigger….

34:18 Pellon 987F drives me crazy. Just did a bag with it and as soon as I started turning it right side out, I noticed the fleece separating from the fabric. Makes me think I should have sewed it in the seam and not trusted the glue. 🤦‍♀️. Does ironing the Pellon fleece directly melt it?

This is an amazing informative video! I stumbled across your video trying to find an alternative to Decovil light because I can’t seem to find it in stock, or if I can, it has long shipping times. Question about the heat press instead of using an iron, can all of the interfacings be pressed onto the fabric using a heat press or just specific ones? What is usually the best heat settings and for how long do you press it for? I know that’s probably a loaded question and a whole different video, but thought I’d ask. 😂 Thanks for such a great video!

Informative video. I use shape flex a lot but I used it on some batik and you could see the glue bumps on the front, not on all of it but some. First time I ever had that happen and it was the first time I ever attempted to put it on batik. Any ideas? Thank you
