I have an 86 Civic Si hatchback & plan to do exactly what you just did. I just bought another one identical to it for parts. One thing I want to do is take the carpet out & put down dynamat before reinstalling, & use their other product for the doors.
I did the same thing with cutting the carpet that goes behind the dash bracket on my eg, it would have been a pain if I hadn't. You probably won't need to stitch it back together, it's covered up and out of the way, has never caused me problems with how the carpet sits and fits. Also easy to remove again if you ever have to. So I'd just not worry about it. :D
Yeah you’re right man, you don’t even see it behind the dash bracket. I seriously thought for a second about removing the srs plugs but then I decided not to and I’m glad I didn’t. Like you said, if I have to take it out again it makes it even easier. Check out next weeks episode to see that color change, it came out so good
Nice video... I did that on my '98 hb and also on my '00 hb... O clean it up and then use cloth dye dark grey and came out great.... it's also a perfect moment to do a p/w p/l convertion... nice hatch btw
Thanks man and great job on your own car! I have a video coming out next week showing my oem carpet color dye. Iit came out so good! I’m happy to hear yours came out great too. It’s amazing how much it changes the interior
Heya, Is there any way i can peek under the floor carpet without having to take apart the whole car? My mom is looking for a second hand car and i want to make sure she doesn't end up with something with mold or insects. Because you never know what's hiding under that carpet.. Especially in the trunk.
I'd say this car is in mint condition, most cars at this age here in east Canada ended up in scrap yard long time ago with rust holes all over car body
Do you know if the EK hatches have the interior trim in a dark grey? Specifically the rear quarter trim panels. I noticed your's looks to be a darker grey. My 97 dx has light grey interior panels and have seen a couple at the junk yard with light grey as well. Looking to change mine over to a darker grey if possible without having to paint
They do, both of ours have a "Interior color Type K" sticker at the passenger door, also the B16 powered ones here in Europe came with a darker interior.I assume same thing in the US?
Sorry, but no! I should have when I was there. Believe it or not that is still the stock piece that came with the car. Slightly warped...but you know hah
I'm enjoying this series, I'm able to learn a ton because you're always so clear and thorough, so thank you for that. I'm planning on doing the same thing with the factory carpet in my eg hatch, it's so gross, I was thinking of trying out changing the color of it so I look forward to the next vid!
Well I sure appreciate that encouragement Giancarlo! Thank you. I hope you get something out of that episode next week then with the color dye on the original carpet. I’m going to encourage you to give it a shot yourself man because as you’ll see my original carpet came out great after the color dye and it’s super cheap but even better is you know the carpet is going to fit right in your car!
dude, you didn’t even give me a chance then or you didn’t hear me say that I am restoring it. Check out the restoration I did on it and how the end result came out. Everyone loves it.
Refine Movement I mean, considering the condition it was in, it’s obviously in way better shape than it was. At least it’s all one color now, but it’s still a gross piece of fabric in your car tho. The fibers have no life left in them, you pulled your whole car apart to put back in that nasty carpet. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and sounds like a duck... it’s a duck. Can’t paint a pretty face on it and call it a lady 🤷🏻♂️
I was thinking about that at first because the cost for a new one from an aftermarket company seems fair. Check out my episode next week though to see what I did with my original carpet, it really came out great
