It's slow on the K dramas front too. So I am watching The Princess Royal and I am also As Beautiful as You because I like both couples. I some how miss Under The Skin and now watching it. I am hooked. Love it. Looks forward to S2.

Lost identity is very enjoyable so far…I love the main couple, Johnny Huang is one of the most handsome actors in dramaland , and he can act. The plot is decent and this period has a lot of different interesting stories…

I recently finished rewatching some good old light dramas and some were still good. 1) You are my glory: Very very sweet and the ending was perfect like I loved it more after rewatching it. 2) Forever Love(2020): Still loved it but ended up fast forwarding a lot lol. 3) The love you give me: This was also still good, but I still fast forwarded a lot 😂 especially the bad guy’s scenes. 4) Lighter and Princess: I was actually surprised with how interesting it was from beginning to end, like I never got bored and the osts were still soo good, whiles rewatching it i skipped through a few scenes like the scene where the female lead was like “choose me”, like pls i dont wanna hear her say that again 😂😂, so cringy. And I also unexpectedly cried at some scenes, like when they got their work stolen by that one lady in their college days and the ml and fl had a private conversation, for some reason what the ml was saying was soo real and made me cry a little 😂lol. Also the male lead pissed me off so many times but the one time I was soo over it was when he scolded her in front of the coworkers saying all sort of crap, I was like boy bye 😂. The female lead was also too forgiving, like pls give him at least a little bit of a hard time eh hmm. There were some scenes I found on RU-vid that were deleted, like the proposal and it was soo heartwarming and pretty. Overall it was still good. Also as viewers we knew the Ml liked the Fl but it was not showcased as much in the show. The proposal scene would have been a good way to show at least a little bit of it, so I wonder why they cut it. Lol

Sorry, to say but I'm enjoying AS Beautiful AS YOU!!!!! better than all the dramas you compared , too.

I will still give Smile Code a chance. It is based on a popular novel and looks interesting to me. I am excited to see how the directing and cinematography comes out. The director was the director of photography in The Meg 2. Smile Code is his directorial debut as main director. I hope FSM 2 comes out and does better than the first one.

Very sad, boiring situation now in Chinese dramaland for sure... this void of quality and stimuli give me the chance to go to old productions and watch them with great pleasure (I did seen so much previous 2019, so I have a lot, a lot to cover..).. Your considerations, observation about ignoring the film Wandering Earth II is sad, and ridiculous, and arrogant, but, as you explained to us, not unusual in these days and also to be expected... the "old" establishment do not want to give space, acknowledgement, and worth to the new ones, to a "better", advanced, cunning and professional way to create stories and visual landscapes and so on. You are a perfect critic and such a insightful historian of Chinese movie and film and dramas... I agree with you, even if this a depressing state of things in China.

16:26 Dark Matter was actually published 8 years ago, in 2016... I remember because I read it when it released and loved it. Blake Crouch already has a previous serious that got adapted into a show and iirc he was a screenwriter for that one so it's clear he wrote Dark Matter with the idea that it would be adapted into a film or a tv series.

I know c drama is having a bit of lackluster year. I just finished the drama “No time for crime” with Benjamin Yuen taking the baddie role and Joel Chan. HK does excel in its cop/triad/Infernal affairs type of dramas. Although it’s been a while since TVB has had hits, the “Queen of News” and “The Heir to the Throne” with Charmaine Sheh (Raymond Lam, Gallen Lo and other HK veterans) were definitely fast paced dramas that I actually looked forward to binging episodes after episode bc of all the plot twists. I recommend those for people who want to brush up back on their Cantonese skills and enjoy a few new dramas.

About 10 years ago I started reading Decoded. I got to like page 250 and discovered that a drama existed. Those 250 pages were the first 20 minutes of the drama. 😂 I haven't watched another episode, and I haven't finished the book but it was very good, just difficult to read. I still keep thinking of the plot I've got to read.

I'm a historical drama fan so still watching The Princess Royal. Started Follow Your Heart but not sure I'll keep going because ML looks like a stiff stick and FL is squeaky. So I'm waiting for LYF season two and the next Strange Legend of Tang Dynasty. Anyone have any other drama suggestions that is currently airing?

Regarding Decoded, apart from the accent, the trailer looks quite interesting. Nevertheless can't make predictions about the complete movie. Looks like an awards targetting movie than a box office hit

The problem is that these production companies are making too many dramas every year. How many unique plot lines can you come up with? Fresh ideas such as The Double, Destined don’t happen often, so we have scenes that are repeated various dramas.

Oooh Dark Matter sounds like my cuppa tea! I was a huge fan of Fringe. Looking forward to AND not looking forward to Lost You Forever. Sigh. I need an alternate universe for that one.

That's C dramaland for me😅 my 1st lesson was waiting excitedly of Novoland Eagle Flag, then for undisclosed reason, they postponed the broadcast 10 mins bfore promised time😥 after 6 months or more, it was being aired, but i ditched it later, coz i hate the way the story went! (n no enchanting wings in gracious dancing scene of SZE, which is the highlight for me) Recently, my feed on weibo has been flooded with people argumenting whether certain actress has powerful back up to the point of changing the storyline, yes that N E F☝how daunting it is, from the moment they announce to produce one show, anything can happen, scandals, unknown causes, could hinder a show to be aired😭😭😭 just like prisoner of beauty. Btw, i like Princess Royal more than The Double, I admire the way ZJM delivered her dialogues.

Baihua should appoint a panel of professional judges to select the short listed nominees and then allow 101 audience members to select the final winner. Otherwise it will only affect the quality of the Awards Ceremony

In the current contemporary c dramas, I can guess what happens in each and every scene as soon as the scene starts. It is quite embarrasing to watch

I'm finding that I am not enjoying Xu Kai as much anymore. He has, IMHO, gone downhill since "She and Her Perfect Husband". I really loved him in that. But speaking of "Best Choice Ever". I found that his character of being that sharp, stone-faced executive, regressed into a hen-pecked boyfriend. I also noticed that he pretty much disappeared towards the last 1/4 of the drama to give Yang Zi most of the face time. Anyway, I have no desire to watch ABAY either. I am so down for S2 of "Lost You Forever". Thank you for your interesting, comprehensve critiques.

Wandering Earth 2 isn't really efficient in its storytelling, 1st half could have been much faster, so I can see why WE2 didn't get nominated for best script. Guo Fan definitely deserves a shoutout for best director though.

I’m enjoying As Beautiful As You, so I disagree. And you dropped it after 1 ep and decide to judge it as it…. Well it just says how credible you are as a drama “critic”. I’m enjoying the leads and how natural they are with each other.

Fantasy romance, period romance, wartime romance, modern day romance. Same theme, good looking young man and good looking young girl, go round in circles and reunited again. Romance overkill. Not a very good example for impressionable teens where they really imagine in love that life is a bed of roses only to realize that its cleaning up, budgeting and the make believe now turns into a nightmare. Its really not fair to overdose the viewers just to keep everyone employed.
