This month's fabric, Impressions by Melissa Marie Collins for Windham Fabrics, is very special. It's the kind of collection that makes you stop and admire it and it deserved a very special pattern where all its beauty was highlighted.
The pattern I came up with, Interlocking Triangles was inspired by a Frank Lloyd Wright children’s book on shapes
I got for my toddler. The interlocking triangles were just begging to be pulled from the page and turned into a quilt in a design where the fabric is the star of the show.
The result is a quilt that requires a little bit of planning to determine your fabric placement, but is a breeze to sew with no Y-seams and can be completed in a weekend.
A Clearview Triangle Ruler, or a 60-degree ruler with all three points and no blunt tips, is required to create Interlocking Triangles.

That really was the perfect pattern for the fabric. From a distance you can't see the seams. The fabric literally flows.

At first I wasn’t sure if I liked the fabric, but, after watching what you did, I LOVE IT!!! Thank you Stephanie for your clear instructions. I’m cutting my fabric that I have and I’m off to order the finishing kit! ❤❤❤

Very cool layout, but there must be a way to get rid of the two seam on each side of the big triangles. Perhaps because you were working with fat quarters, that necessitated the seams. Using yardage would probably eliminate the need for those seams on the bias.

You would need to cut a template and assemble the entire row as one unit. It is much more complicated than what I did here

I agree with you, and as far as I can see it would be easier than what ‘Stephanie did. I think she must have misunderstood you.

Beautiful! This pattern makes it essential that your quarter-inch is absolutely perfect, otherwise I could see it going off the rails. There's lots of bias in this quilt, which makes it more challenging, but I think I'm up for it!

Great fabric. Love the flow. Did you guys try to cut a parallelogram instead of the diamonds and triangles? I think a parallelogram would be so much easier to sew. But training how to cut one would be necessary. Give it a try!

Question from a neophyte quilter: Why not cut two parallelograms for each block instead of all those small triangles?🤔

That’s what I’m thinking 🤔
@QuiltAddictsAnonymous

You would need a special template in order to cut it and that would be more complicated and more likely for it not to turn out the right size
@tzfatree

You could cut the parallelograms exactly the same way you cut the diamonds, just further over.

Love this pattern and your tutorial. Just bought the pattern and want to make the king. Curious if you've looked at it oriented the other direction with the triangles going vertical. I will probably do it that way instead with 7 columns of 18 or 19 blocks. My big decisions will need to be whether to try to find 18 or 19 fabrics that work together or just do it with the 16 as in the pattern and have a rotation through the quilt. Would love your thoughts on this.

Wonderful pattern/ tutorial! I'm wondering why you didn't just cut 60 degree rectangles for the 2 nd layer instead of piecing 3 smaller bits? Is there a advantage to the 2 triangle, smaller diamond method? Just curious

Why on earth did you cut two triangles and a rhomboid to make a rhomboid? Is it a limitation of your ruler?
@QuiltAddictsAnonymous
@QuiltAddictsAnonymous 2 года назад
You would have needed to create your own template in order to do it as one piece and that would have been more complicated
@m53goldsmith
@m53goldsmith Год назад
@@QuiltAddictsAnonymous Would you? Just start with the left of the first triangle, then move over the right number of inches and cut the right edge of the right triangle, that would give you the rhomboid of the right size... wouldn't it?
