Erratum: While the captions and on-screen text contained correct translation of Principle #2, the verbal translation was off the mark. For the record, the correct translation of Principle #2 is: “Release Thorough and Penetrating Force. Movements like a Bursting Spring without Blockage.”

Dear Master Yang, I love to write your proverbs and guidelines in my little yellow Notebook and now putting them into practise. Excelent exercise and correction of your Student. Thank you to him for his support for us to learn! Regarding FB or Discord: Both have plus and minus. FB is great and i would prefere it. I like that there are real Names of the participants, but I understand that many dont want to show up public with their real name. Discord is great because you can structure the board in many ways. But I think that almost all use any fantasy name there and then its difficult to know who is who on the other platforms. (DAOI page, RU-vid, .....) I follow whereever you or the community goes.
@lsm5
@lsm5 2 года назад
I hear you. While Facebook's real name policy can be a boon in terms of ID-ing people, it can also be a bane in the sense that Facebook is a huge privacy nightmare, while discord would allow a certain degree of per-server isolation of activity. Facebook would follow whatever you do, wherever you go, no matter how often people adjust their privacy settings. If people using fake names on Discord poses a problem in terms of hate speech / harassment / spam, we could impose moderation standards / language filters etc. Also, this community group announced today is intended to be open for everyone. Whenever DAOI memberships are enabled, there will most likely be an additional members-only group. Still TBD though. And thanks once again for your comment on the student correction section :)

Xie xie shi fu Hai Yang, I'm practicing Karate, and interested in the core essence of how Okinawa Karate by adopting the fist training from Chinese Hand (Tang Shou). I found that it's derived from Hsing I quan. My teachers taught me the importance of balanced posture, explosive punch and relaxation (i didn't under stand relaxation and always tense up in sparring). When i practice alone punching, it's so much more powerful. It's really makes sense now on the penetration force and recoil/rechamber the punch like a spring. I'm thankful because when I was small, i learn a bit of Chen Style taichi. I also discover that the power comes from back leng from the ground released out all the way to the end of the hand. I discovered by accident the power of two fist striking out to train how to release the li, same experience from when you correct the student, which I also see his power is from shoulder and from ground.

Great lecture 😃. I’ve often wondered why there are so many different fa li exercises? If you can get it in one movement, isn’t it pretty similar to get the feeling in other body structures? Also, is it better to start fa li practice with a weapon, to get physical feedback from the weapon to let you know if you’re doing it correctly?

Your explanation is very clear, but I am still confused about related ideas in Tai Chi Chaun: Compared to what you describe about Fa Li, How do I create Fa Shen, and how do I learn to apply Ti Fang ? Also, from a practical standpoint, my Fa Li [ Fa jin???] looks like your student... but I see how your Fa Li is much more precise ... I am discouraged that without learning the subtleties your Fa Li, I won't be able to create Fa Shen, or learn to apply Ti Fang? Thank you.

Show it. Do Sanda, or MMA, or Boxing against a skilled RESISTING OPPONENT. Don't misunderstand. Hai Yang's quality of movement is absolutely sublime but to claim Martial effectiveness, you need to SHOW it, again, against a skilled, resisting opponent. Lack of this aspect has IMO killed TCMA. By the way, I have little doubt that if he chose to do so, Hai Yang could do quite well in a real fight, not sure why he dosen't want to.
@HaiYangChannel
@HaiYangChannel 2 года назад
Thank you, I will think about it. Take care. Have a nice day. Enjoy your training,.
@joezane
@joezane 2 года назад
If I may make a counter point. Why should he do sanda, mma or boxing ? Why would he enter into a ring with one hand tied behind his back? Do the rules of sanda, mma or boxing allow for an expression of xingyi, bagua or taiji? No. They don’t. I understand the point you are making as it gets made all the time on the internet, but frankly, I’m getting a little tired of it. If you were to suggest that he step onto a platform with a boxer or something and they could both fight with their own skills, that is one thing, but that is not what combat sports is. They are sports, with rules. TCMA we’re not developed as sport. Again, I understand this position you are taking, but sanda, mma and boxing are not a “real fight”. Also, I think you may be misunderstanding what fali is. Fali is not combat. Fali is (as the lecture says) an expression of force release. Is it used in combat? Of course. But so is chi-na, grappling, etc… fali itself, is not combat. So when you say “show it”… we’ll, frankly he did show it. There was a demonstration. I think you mean “use it”, which is quite different. This is just my opinion, but all this talk of combat sports “killing TCMA” is really quite silly that seems devalue much of the cultural, health and even martial aspects of Chinese martial arts because they don’t fit with well within a competitive arena that was not designed for them. If you want to see Chinese martial arts go up against other disciples I suggest you google “the dog brothers” to see fights that are outside of the combat sports arena and allow for a more sanshou (free fighting) environment. @Hai Yang, I would interested in hearing you address this topic (TCMA vs combat sports) in an upcoming Q&A since it so often talked about in the MA community. Thank you.
@rodgerbane3825
@rodgerbane3825 2 года назад
@@joezane I've seen the dog brothers, they are very average at best. MMA has very few restraining rules, can't kick a down opponent to the head, can't eye gouge or fish hook or bite. You simply will not be able to fight unless you go hard, against a resisting opponent and the only way to PRACTICE those sorts of skills is combat sports. Now, often Special Forces types will discuss this and they often claim they DO use unarmed combat skills in actual live wartime scenarios on their missions on occasion. You might want to check out what, say Jocko Willink (SEAL) and Pat McCormick (Delta Force) have to say about this subject. Again, if you don't go live against a resisting non cooperative opponent you can not learn to fight, case closed.
@joezane
@joezane 2 года назад
@@rodgerbane3825 I’m not sure what you mean when you say that the dog brothers are average at best? It is a range of fighters of different skills and disciplines. Some are average, some less, some more. It is about the competition and the rules. The only rules they have have are you must wear very basic head gear, non restrictive gloves and don’t kill anyone. MMA certainly has restrictive rules, maybe not to someone doing BJJ or Muay Thai, but to other arts, it doesn’t work. In taijiquan, for example, we have many Zhang fa (hand methods) that you simply couldn’t do wearing protective gear in MMA. I am not saying that you shouldn’t practice against a revisiting opponent. Of course you should. Again, I draw on my chosen art… in taiji we have many ways working on practice with a resisting opponent tuishou (pushing hands), dashou (hitting hands), Sanshou (free fighting). Often for beginners these are set patterns of play, but for more advanced players this is done free resistance. My contention is the idea that Combat sports is somehow “real fighting”. It is not. That idea is silly. A taiji fighter not doing well in MMA no more “kills TMA” than if a boxer failed in a tuishou competition. They are different things. Again, I am not saying that martial arts shouldn’t be pressure tested against a resisting opponent. Yes it should. I hope that is clear. I am saying that combat sports is not real fighting, it lends itself to certain disciplines and disadvantages others. That is my opinion. I hear and respect yours, I simply disagree. Also, again, I would be interested in Hai Yang addressing this topic, since it is his channel and he is the one that you asking to “prove himself”.
@joezane
@joezane 2 года назад
@@HaiYangChannel I can see that my attempt to tag you in the conversation didn’t work, so I’m replying directly. Would be able to address this idea in the conversation below? Traditional Chinese martial arts and combat sports, perhaps I a q&a, thank you.
