Northern Chinese kung fu styles, both Internal and External, utilize pole shaking as a fast track to create a profound awareness, extend our oneness, and generate incredible power. In this video we demonstrate and clearly explain the principles behind making it work for you, in a pleasantly and surprisingly short amount of time.
This skill forms a valuable foundation for the Fajin and internal work you will continue to develop in Tai Chi, while giving you a power you can have confidence in now.
This video is a part of our upcoming premium online course on understanding Fascia, connecting through Fascia, and Fajin. We decided to make this portion of the course freely accessible! Stay tuned for the others!

"Real whole body power is casual looking." I love that statement! Very good video and instruction. Thank you!

Thank you! I hope everyone discovers the joy of casual looking, faster than conscious thought, whole body power!

"... Because Fajin occurs faster than conscious thought. Just like you can't consciously cause a sneeze ..." ... again, really useful advice for those with the foundations! Thank you for sharing! 😃🙏

Thanks! I think it's a particularly relevant reminder for people who are smart and tend to think a lot! 🙏

I hope you gain a lot from this exercise! It's not necessarily easy but if you keep doing it, keep following the flow of momentum with your awareness, you will inevitably achieve something wonderful! 🙏

Thank you for sharing your skill and expertise. What is a good length and diameter for the staff? Type of wood? Better yet recommendation for purchase?
@phoenixmountaintaichi

White wax wood is by far the best choice, not too thick so it can flex appropriately. As you become stronger and more skilled you'll appreciate a thicker staff. I recently got a bunch from Wing Lam Enterprise. Their Natural Finish Single Tapered White Wax Wood Bo Staff works well for this practice! Thanks for asking I really should've stated this in the video. I'll put it in the description. 🙏

I know this is an introduction to the drill, but is the front arm ever kept still, in a later progressions?
@phoenixmountaintaichi
@phoenixmountaintaichi 6 месяцев назад
Yes as you instinctually discover the way the body braces and relaxes to pass the momentum, eventually both arms move very little. I've not attained a level where the arm doesn't move at all, but it gets closer and closer to that as you improve. Good question!

I can see how this can be translated into powerful relaxed empty hand strikes and even throws

@@nvisblfist1Absolutely! And I think this skill of smoothly transferring momentum to accelerate something forms a valuable foundation to projecting people, and probably is the reason why northern internal arts are so fond of tossing people away when no other martial arts really practice that.

@@phoenixmountaintaichi very interesting! I'll certainly try this out. It's very different from what I've been exposed to in Chen style. Good stuff!

@@beenright5115very good point! Chen style emphasizes the spiraling silk reeling Jin and we should all definitely train that. Check out this video of Chen style master Feng Zhiqiang doing his spiraling Chen spear. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0fo-lfcHyZg.html
