What an adventure!! Reminds me of the early nineties, working the auger in the IH for my grandpa from that small metal "buddy" seat. Real farming!!

My family has been farming since the days of the Roman Empire in the foothills of the Alps. Dad and his brother didn’t want anything to do with it, but I was fortunate enough to get a country upbringing with a handful of livestock and poultry. I picked up my 1st chunk of pasture when I was 14, went on with my life buying little pieces of land no one wanted along the way. I had great off farm careers and have been farming at scale for awhile now. That 1st gen farmer is the most important one. We need a lot more just like you. It took generations of clearing land of timber and rocks to start back in the day, so keep your head up and keep going.

Your doing what I have been dreaming of my entire life. working hard paying off all debt and saving as much money as I can. Hopefully in the next five years I will be able to buy a debt free farm of my own and start farming with my son before I am too old. The price of land is double what it should be, hopefully it will come back down to were it should be. The best of luck to you and your family.

Very cool. I farm about an hr sw of you near Topeka, in the Wakarusa River Valley and surrounding area. All red here too. Nice to see other farmers getting it done not far away!

Billings, not a co.mon name. My wife's maiden name is Billings. We live just across border near Killarney Manitoba. Also farm a small acreage for this area and also run Case International combines, 1680 and 2188. Always a good reliable machine and easy to set. Our crops are mainly wheat, barley, oats, canola, soybeans and flax. Corn grown here but we don't feel like the extra cost of seeding equipment and another header. Finished our harvest two weeks ago. Good luck with farm.

This is the first year i ran my gathering chain up in soybeans and it was a huge difference. I could drive faster and no plugging. Everyone told me the beans wouldnt feed in as well and they fed in great! I would leave your feeder house chain/drum up. It makes swapping between crops even faster!
