Thank you so much 😊 And seriously, bless your heart for being a teacher! Both of my parents were teachers, so I know how much work and effort it takes!

This is super helpful! I'm trying to decide on the intensive course vs the part-time course. Looking back, if you were not working/had the time/money, do you think you would have chosen the 4-week intensive course instead?
@itsmeelise
@itsmeelise 9 месяцев назад
That’s a great question! I could see how someone might want to get it done and over with as soon as possible. However, I think it might be better to still do the longer course because your brain actually has time to process and retain information. I wouldn’t see myself retaining everything if I had taken the intensive course

I know that this is an old video but I am currently trying to find an online course and you said that this one requires you to teach in real life - how does that work? I'm unsure if I am able to travel around if I have to do that too (since I am a university student with not a lot of money or car) Do you think that it's really beneficial to be able to teach in a physical classroom to get your certificate or should I find an online course that is 100% online? :)

Once I got to my real teaching job, I really appreciated the fact that I had real life teaching experience. I volunteered at my local library to teach native Spanish speakers English. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a school. Find something near you that works or create a small program yourself! Sorry this is late!
@brucejones2407

You are required to do a 20 hour live practicum (student observation and teaching) to non native English speaking students. You can do this do your student teaching online or volunteer at language classes at various locations. Here's a link to explain it: www.internationalteflacademy.com/blog/practice-teaching-online-tefl-course

Did you buy the Grammar Fundamentals book? Would you recommend buying it? I'm starting this course in February!
@itsmeelise
@itsmeelise 3 года назад
I did! I purchased all of the books physically because I know that highlighting and taking notes in the book is my prefered way of studying. I think it depends on how you prefer to study. There is no right or wrong thing to do about purchasing the books.

Have you decided which agency you will be going with later? Have a handful of friends (korean americans) who went to Korea to teach English. Some got chosen to go to Seoul, some in other parts of the country, and I think that depended on the agencies they chose, in case you were planning on going to Seoul only
@itsmeelise
@itsmeelise 6 лет назад
Yes that’s what I’ve heard too! I really do want to live in the Seoul area, but if I don’t live directly IN Seoul, I’d be okay with that. I am just now starting to do deeper research into agencies, recruiters, and things like that!
@johnkwak9159
@johnkwak9159 6 лет назад
Gotcha. I asked 2 of my friends who went to Seoul and they both chose SMOE. Hopefully that benefits your research into all this stuff. Good luck!

Thank you for this video, I’m interested in this course and I was looking everywhere to find what kind of content to expect. I’m curious, may I ask what the final course project was? It sounds so scary 😭 Also, how did you find your practicum location? And what was your experience for the practicum? We’re you nervous? I apologize for that many questions, lol.
@itsmeelise
@itsmeelise 2 года назад
Sorry this is so late! I took a hiatus from RU-vid. The final project was basically a giant lesson plan. I think it may have been several different lesson plans, not just one. You had to make or collect various worksheets and ppts if it remember correctly. Things may be different now. As for practicum, I did it at my local library! They put out feelers for any Spanish speakers hoping to learn English and I helped various groups of them, from one on one to small groups learn and practice English. :)

If you graduate from this course, ITA, do you need a degree to work abroad or this course will do?
@itsmeelise
@itsmeelise 2 года назад
It depends on the country. For example, in South Korea you need to have a four year college degree and this certificate to teach English there (unless your degree is in education). Some countries don’t even need you to have a four year degree, just the certificate!

If I take the online course, and get a job after, can I do the job online, because I don't think I'll be able to travel, and I prefer to work from the comfort of my home

Yes there are online options! VIPKids and Magic Ears and some examples, but there are loads others. Just google “Online English Teaching Jobs”

It depends on the country! For South Korea you need a four year degree and an ESL/EFL (English as a second language / English as a foreign language) certificate. Unless your degree is in education, then you just need the degree!
