Taking an online TEFL course is the fastest way to get your English teaching certification and start teaching English as a second language.
For most people, the best way to learn is by doing it in person. However, in-person TEFL courses can be expensive and take up a lot of time.
It’s much easier and time-efficient to get a TEFL certification online. But there are so many different options for online TEFL courses, how do you know which one to choose? I’ve done extensive research to show you the three best online TEFL courses.
Whether you want to teach English abroad or online, these ESL certification courses are for you.

I'm sorry, but I have to be honest here: you're not recommending "the best" Online TEFL course because you have researched for or experienced it. You're recommending Bridge TEFL because they are sponsoring you and you have a commission to every enrollment they get. What I think you should do is to, at least, add "[SPONSORED]" next to you video title.

Hi, Felipe! Thanks for the comment. Contrary to what you believe, this video is NOT sponsored by anyone. If it were, it would say that to comply with FTC regulations. I am a graduate of BridgeTEFL and I became an affiliate because I genuinely enjoyed my experience with them and wanted to share it with others. I give full disclosure of my affiliate status and say that I will earn a commission in the video as well. I also recommend myTEFL in the video and although I did not get my TEFL certificate from them, they granted me permission to view their course for a limited time so I could share accurate information. As a longtime EFL teacher in Brazil and Portugal, but now retired, I really enjoyed the video. I actually came here looking for a course for one of our teachers for children's classes, who although doing a fairly good job, has no certificate to show. A great presentation, but one important thing was missing: no prices. Also I am always a bit sceptical when the only courses recommended are the ones the person recommending is monetarily affiliated with.
@gratefulgnomads
@gratefulgnomads 3 года назад
Hi, Ray! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I totally understand why you'd be skeptical. I would be too. So allow me to explain :) I was a paying customer of BridgeTEFL before I became an affiliate. I chose them as the place to get my TEFL certificate online because they are a very reputable company. They've been in the TEFL industry for over 30 years. They have a real accrediting body and they're internationally recognized. Their content and lesson materials are top notch, interactive, and great for visual learners. Only once I finished my first TEFL course with them did I become an affiliate. They are simply the best. I still turn to BridgeTEFL when I want to further my ESL education with their specialized certificates. On top of all that, I'm regularly in touch with people who work in their headquarters in Denver. They're really nice people! As for prices, I don't mention them in the video because they change over time and sometimes they have sales. I'd rather not mention prices in the video because I'd have to make a whole new video when they change or when they have a sale on. You can easily click the link in the description to see their prices on the website. Here it is so you don't have to find it: www2.bridge.edu/gratefulgypsies-tefl I hope this helps! @@gratefulgnomads Thank you for taking the time to answer. I really wasn't expecting one. Bridge looks good but for the teacher that I am getting info for I think myTEFL is both highly rated and offers a lower price. I notice that you are teaching in Colombia now, one of my favorite countries. Years ago, when I finished my M.A in TEFL, I was thinking of going there just because I love Spanish and Colombia seemed so interesting. I really wanted to be in a Spanish speaking environment. And, guess what? I ended up in Brazil, where I taught for twenty years and then Portugal, where I taught for another twenty. And here I am.

I looked at th/e price. That is very expensive for an online TEFL. I'm leaning toward the "i-to-i" online TEFL course. That is what Ben teaches english youtube got back in the old days. I contacted them and they said sometimes they have a discount that drops the price to only $200 for the level-5, 180 hour TEFL/TESOL course. There is a lot of talk that many employers want the level-5 168 hour tefl course rather than the Level-3 120 hour course.
@gratefulgnomads
@gratefulgnomads Год назад
Thanks for watching! You get what you pay for when it comes to online TEFL courses. I have not heard good things about i-to-i. You don’t really learn much. I have not heard that employers prefer a level-5 TEFL certificate. ‘Level 5’ refers to one of the levels on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In other words, it’s a United Kingdom qualification that means very little to anyone outside of the UK. A 120-hour professional TEFL certificate is still widely accepted. Sasha and I both got our TEFL certificates from BridgeTEFL and have been qualified for every job we’ve applied for both online and in person. Furthermore, BridgeTEFL is fully accredited by a real accrediting body recognized by the US Department of Education. I have worked closely with BridgeTEFL to improve their course content and that’s why I became an affiliate. I can say with certainty that they offer extremely high-quality courses.

Am I missing something with this big disparity and the fact that you didnt mention it or unaware of?
@gratefulgnomads
@gratefulgnomads 3 года назад
Hi! Thanks for checking out the video! I don't think it's necessary to pay all that money for a university type TESOL or TEFL course unless you're applying for a teaching job that strictly requires it. Otherwise, it really isn't necessary. There are so many TEFL course providers out there that it can be really hard to cut through the noise and find the ones that are high quality and that you actually learn something from. That's why I only mention two in this video. I've done a ton of research and I truly believe that these are the best options that provide the most value for the best price.

Grateful Gypsies how widely recognized is bridge vs. a CELTA from Cambridge? Is the CELTA better than the TEFL as far as more teaching options available ?
@gratefulgnomads
@gratefulgnomads 3 года назад
@@Anonymous-bc6zl it depends on where you want to teach. If you wanted to teach in China, most ESL teaching jobs don't require a CELTA and you would be fine with a BridgeTEFL certificate. However, I heard from a fellow VIPKID teacher that in the Netherlands, a CELTA is preferred by most teaching jobs. The best course of action would be to research teaching jobs in places you'd like to live and see what the requirements are. Be sure to check on work visa requirements as well.

Grateful Gypsies is it worth pursuing right now in times of pandemic?
@gratefulgnomads
@gratefulgnomads 3 года назад
@@Anonymous-bc6zl that's a good question! A full 120-hour TEFL course can take up to 6 months to complete depending on how much free time you have. I think right now is a great time to go ahead and get it finished since no one can really enjoy a regular social or travel schedule. Then when things do get better and travel restrictions ease, you'll have one of the biggest steps in applying to ESL jobs out of the way. So the short answer to your question is yes!

Here's the link to the blog post: www.gratefulgypsies.com/best-online-tefl-courses/ Thanks again for watching :)

Hello, I actually found your video helpful. I'm more interested in using the certification for volunteer purposes, possibly for private lessons and for personal growth. Is there a way to email you for further guidance and suggestions? I'm deciding on going abroad for a while and want to do more than just be a tourist. Thanks for the video.

This is not an ad for BridgeTEFL. I also talk about another TEFL course provider called myTEFL. I was not paid by either company to make this video, nor did they ask me to make it. I got my TEFL certificate with BridgeTEFL and I think they offer a great product. Many friends and people I trust have gotten their TEFL certificate through myTEFL and enjoyed their experience. So I made this video to tell others about both companies. I am an affiliate but I make that abundantly clear in the video and the description.

This chick is affiliated with bridgetefl. This is nonsense. Glad I played vid in 2x speed. Im looking to get certified for other country. Been in China for 9 years and no need for tesol/tefl cert. So many opportunities if you have a bachelor degree only.

Hey, Aaron! This chick's name is Rachel :) Isn't it nice that RU-vid helps you save time by speeding up the videos?! It's a great feature. Thanks for sharing your experience in China. Here's my experience: I lived in China for 5 years and the teaching job I wanted (along with many other jobs I applied for) told me that in order to qualify for a proper working Z visa that I needed a TEFL certificate from an outside source. So I got mine with BridgeTEFL. The official rule from the government, at least for teaching jobs in Beijing, is that you need a TEFL certificate to qualify for a working visa. Sure, you could not get a TEFL certificate and work illegally in China, but I wouldn't recommend that. I was so impressed with their program, I became an affiliate because I believe in what they're offering. I make that abundantly clear in the video and in the description. I only become affiliated with quality products I have used, reviewed, and believe in. If you're looking for a TEFL course to qualify for other countries, why not go with Bridge? Because you learned about it from someone who's an affiliate? Seems like a silly reason. If you'd rather me not get the commission, that's fine, I still think you should go with Bridge over other TEFL course providers. It's a really high-quality TEFL course. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Actually, the rule is to have a bachelor degree along with 2 years of work experience of any kind. There's no rule or law about having a tefl. Go on Chinese visa site or embassy site to confirm any of this. Vietnam, Japan, Korea, and maybe Thailand are the strictest Asian countries to require a tefl.

@@AaronOlafson The requirement to qualify for a Z visa says that you need 2 years of post-graduate teaching experience OR a teaching certificate such as a TEFL/TESOL/CELTA. The rules are constantly evolving and changing for Chinese Z visas. When I got my first Z visa, I could only get it in my home country. The second time I got one when we moved to Kunming, I was allowed to get it in Hong Kong. I'm speaking from my experience and I don't appreciate you coming here and discounting it as 'nonsense.' Either way, getting a TEFL certificate certainly doesn't hurt as long as it's from a quality TEFL course provider such as BridgeTEFL or myTEFL - the two providers I mention in the video. It only increases one's chance of getting hired and puts them ahead of other job applicants. My intention with this video is to help cut through the noise as there are so many TEFL course providers out there and not all of them are good. I didn't create this video just to make money nor was I paid to do it. I'm still happy to help you make a decision if you have questions.
