I love this!!! Thank you so much!! Thank you for showing to the world what a truly beautiful people the Egyptian people are, and how they have made the Arabic language even more pleasing to the ear by speaking in their own smooth, unique way.

FirasTeinz The "actual language" is what people speak. "Proper correct Arabic" wasn't even what people spoke at the time of the Prophet (saw).

Laahm4Fong1 This is like we would like to speak an Old Germanic language from which all Germanic languages has evolved like Swiss, Dutch, German, Yiddish, all scandinavian languages and so on. Languages evolve quickly.

Laahm4Fong1 but my friend, it is not called old arabic like old german is, it is called Standard arabic, it is what the news are using when they are airing, and most cartoon shows and it is how movies are subtitled, so why should we introduce strangers to weird slang words!

FirasTeinz I plan an Easy Egyptian Arabic episode where I will talk to people who lecture Arabic on our university. The problem is very interesting and I sure don't understand it quite. But I will try to sort it out asking people who know it better than me. But please try to understand me: I was in Egypt and I liked the people and the language they spoke. I want to be able to communicate with them in their own language. This is why we do Egyptian Arabic and not Standard Arabic.

FirasTeinz If they tried to do this program in Standard Arabic, it would collapse completely because people aren't used to speaking Standard Arabic in their everyday lives; they would get nervous and they would probably laugh at the interviewer for speaking so formally, and they certainly wouldn't respond in Standard Arabic. Depending on where in the Arab world they shot it, people might be more comfortable talking in French or English than in Standard Arabic. And while serious news programs (and maybe cartoons, I don't know) are indeed in Standard Arabic, virtually every other TV program, like movies, talk shows, drama serials, and so forth, are done in the local dialect. For beginners who want to learn to SPEAK Arabic, learning a widely-understood dialect like Egyptian or Levantine is a much better choice than Fos7a because there are much better resources for practicing your listening and speaking

plz change the name to "easy egyptian dialect", taht would make more sense, there's no egyptian arabic and maghreb arabic, just one arabic. sorry to say but you are not helping people in this way :/

extremely right, it isn't Arabic.

alasfoor I still don't really understand it. I'm going to find a professor of Arabic language and make an interview with him asking him to explain this problem for me. Languages are in a sense "alive". They develop and they undergo changes. If all the people of Egypt speak one and the same way, they use the same words and sounds: then I really think that it would be a callous insult to say that their language is just a slang. It is not. I'm sure that there are people speaking the same language in a slang manner. We often joke saying that Dutch would be just a slang of German. But at least we know that this is just plain wrong. As far I know there is not one country speaking "orderly" Arabic. They all developed their own art of Arabic. And as far I know Egyptian Arabic is the most popular blend of Arabic language. Omar: maybe you would do an Easy Egyptian Arabic Episode on this theme. Maybe you could get some answers from some experts.
