Internet founders reflect on its impact and future amid AI concerns 

Really great to see the founding fathers are still around. They need to do a two hour special on each of them.

Wow! This whole time I’ve been saying, “Surf the Internet.” Now I learn it should be ‘Cerf,’ as in Vint Cerf.

I met Vint Cerf at ISSA and talked to him. Brilliant man.

My Uncle Mike was one of those guys at Mitre. I remember him showing up one Sunday with a modem (that you put a telephone handset into) and was talking to a buddy at the Pentagon in real time. Sometime 1979-1981 or so! It blew my mind. Move forward 15 years later and nothing I did in my medical profession wasn’t done with a computer.

The invention is not the problem, the problem is how we use it.

Few people have changed the world as much as these men.

What about the role of Tim Berners-Lee, a British scientist and pioneer of the markup language of the World Wide Web as we know it? I know Berners-Lee may not be alive to make his case but still, I am shocked he is not referenced at all in this story. It appears, if people and viewers do their homework that the invention of the internet was transatlantic collaborative effort, between both England and the United States.

Internet has to be made safe for normal consumer which even the Govt official sites have been hacked into, so? Solutions Only to be shared with somebody real good and with integrity i need to earn living also

I love him for the good he's brought into the world!" By the way, a guillotine is only a technology. It can always be used for good things. Its just how you think about it. Bandages are a simple technology for example that can be used for evil purposes. It only how you think about it. - No, I posit, as do many others, technologies influence our responses in ways we may not initially appreciate. The trick is to realize people should be more valued than any technology and not all inventions are a net good in the long term.

'When it comes to good and bad, that's the person's choice'. I totally agree with this statement because its the devices we use that can be made into either good or bad. Vehicles are used for both good and bad all the time (majority of the time its good). Just like the vehicles, the same can be said of the internet. Everyone has a choice in life of whether to do good things or bad things. That's why its a conscience thing called 'free will'. We all make decisions that impact our future, but the decisions are what cause us to do good or bad things in life.

It's both a blessing and a curse in disguise....as a mother and wife born in 1959 I think we were better off without it ....BOOKS ...FREINDS... GOING OUT and PARTIES were wonderful ....now when we go out all we see are people on their "smart" devices. ....who's really smarter them or us ???

Imagine having the opportunity to speak to the men who created a technology that is foundational to all aspects of 21st century society and spending the entire time trying to get them to say that social media is bad. This "journalist" needs s new job......

In most cases technology is neutral; the problem is how people use it. Just look to the past or the future. Our world tore itself apart only 80 years ago. What was the technology used to convince societies to do this? Pamphlets, books, speeches, radio, black and white newsreels. And if we can’t handle today’s tech, what are we going to do in 10 years? 100? Instead of blaming the tech, the harder work is to look within ourselves, our families and societies. We need to teach people self awareness, self control, critical thinking, and ethics. The tech will continue to advance rapidly; whether we have those principles in place will determine if our future is Idiocracy or Star Trek.

Sometimes when you are from same racial group not including diverse minds, because you as racial group your thinking is of same wavelength and diverse minds brings you another view point which makes sense and brings you worldview not even thought about... for me driving / motor vehicles and the internet are in the same category: i use them because i have to not because i want to. not fun at all and often quite uncomfortable. i held out as long as i could. drivers license, reluctantly, at 25, and i got an email address six years after my parents got online, and that was only because my roommate at the time bought one of those idiotic computers to connect to the web, and everyone sold me on email and web connectivity being a necessity not a luxury. while neither driving or computers are evil, i really wish there were other ways. to this day i would rather mail a check than pay on a site and walk somewhere rather than drive, or even be a passenger
