I'm probably not the first one to point this out but at least 90% of this video could be applied to any kind of content/online product and not only for musicians :)
I hate when people spam my post with there music.. when I didn't ask for it . but I end up hearing it anyways and giving a review! I continuously network about 8-10 hours a day mainly on Facebook groups because for me as a Soundcloud artist i found a lot of active groups with a large amount of people in them! I enjoy watching you videos my dude! as another creator of content definitely enjoyed the input!
Great points. I feel like I follow a lot of what you say already, but there's always room for improvement. Your last point really hit home tho. Even after doing everything in your power to create something, it doesn't always get the attention you think it will get. But there's always something you can learn and take away from it.
Social Media Pet Peeve: trying to have a dorky sense of humor that doesn't feel authentic because they think it'll add something to their content. Adam Neely and SamuraiGuitarist show that you can just show up and be forward with a well organized idea and do something awesome.
I know *exactly* who you're talking about omg that is such accurate shade!!! Lmaoooo! No coincidence that I'm subscribed to Adam and Samurai in that case haha.
One of my social media pet peeves is when people self-promote by talking about/advertising their content in third person. For example, when you see a video on FB with a border on the top and the bottom of the video itself. The border will have top text will say something like "INSANE GUY SHREDS WITH A SHREDDER", then the bottom part of the border will be an array of emojis. The video caption will also be written in third person, as if the person had their content picked up by somebody else, but really this person is just promoting themselves. If you don't know what I'm on about, search "Unkle Adams" on FB and look at his video promotion format. It's honestly laughable.
My social media pet-peave is when people take an idea from someone else without giving credit to the source. It's an un-written rule, and everybody whats to be famous. 🤷🏽♂️
I just discovered your channel, and all I can say is I am impressed, not only by the musical content but also from the fact that you appear to be very positive and encouraging of other people. Keep it up!
I really don't normally comment on RU-vid at all. Just wanted to say that this is one of my favorite new channels! Informative and meditative. Super rad. Thanks for posting awesome material.
Semi-spam things in places of target audience - I finally dropped that after reaching ~1000 subs. From that point I get the plank of 300 views in 72 hours for sure. Actually RU-vid machine helps valuable videos to be seen by right people. That's the most important thing, I believe.
Another tip would be to make sure your visual branding is up to scratch. It has to look professional and reflect your music and message successfully. This is the first thing people will see when they go on your channel/profile and you want to be able to grab them in and make them want to listen to your music or hear about your product 😊
Hey--just a suggestion for future vids like these: Rather than splicing multiple takes of you talking together, maybe find some visuals to go along with to keep the audience hooked and to mask some of those obvious edits. Other than that, I love your content and these were some great tips
This is a great video man really needed to hear something like this today. I’ve been trying to get my head around all the new algorithms while releasing new content recently and I’ve fallen into a negative and impatient mind set with it. You put things in perspective for me with what you said here dude. Subscribed!
I think my biggest pet peeve on media is Clickbait - Articles or titles that try to draw your attention by being preposterous. These types of things wear down my patience and make me less likely to click in the future. It's especially aggravating when people try to use clickbait to sell things.
Man don't get me wrong, I really am impressed about the diversity of tips you show on the sensei series. Really original stuff, helped me a lot with lots of things. But for the love of f**king god, can we please see your pedals and sh*t already?
Hahaha, "The Gear Video" is coming soon. But to tide you over, the ones I use the most are the Cusak Screamer for distortion, Diamond Compressor and Guyatone tube echo. Those are basically on at all times.
People who share how many hours of practice they put in today on Facebook is one of my pet peeves. These are great videos Sensei, thanks for the useful tips.
i was int he other room listening at the time and assumed that was the joke...i was disappointed with i clicked your time code link and found no text puns...my presumptions failed me
Hello there +samuraiguitarist ! I was wondering if you can make a video talking about ways to organize and structure a practice session. Sometimes the material for study is so big that it get's hard to be organized about it and to make a progress that is distinguishable. Thanks for this vids man! You are really wise!
One of my social media pet peeves is where big guitar pages on Instagram claim to feature guitarists if you follow them and then feature the same hand full of guitarists every day.
Social media pet peeve = outright glad handing. This kid gloves, Everything Is Awesome!, "dont be a hater", Bambi, don't say anything if you dont have anything nice to say mentality. If everything is cool, then, is *anything* cool? I'm all for friendly, reciprocal networking but some are taking it *waaaaaay* too far.
Social Media Pet Peeve: Lead Singer/Guitarist in a metal 3-piece here.... My pet peeve is that there is an unspoken requirement for a band to maintain a social media presence at all. I've deleted both personal FB and IG accounts within the last 2 years, and have gained back a lot of time that I've used for actually playing guitar, not to mention being generally less stressed out and distracted. Can you expand on some of the non-social media approaches to band promotion? Or am I destined to be an unwilling Social Media band promoter?
Hi Chris, in your situation there is no way other than gigging often, everywhere and anywhere, attack it geographically, conquer each town and get e-mail addresses for future gigs and promote directly. Also, don't think you have to do everything, if you truly have a band the other two should be willing to take the online workload, if they don't maybe you have to find someone else that is as serious and invested as you. Rock On....
#7 is really hard to deal with sometimes. When you work hard at a video and then it gets a lot of downvotes. But you gotta get back on your horse and ride.
My advice to you, don't offer advice on where to seek advice unless your advise is sought. Since my advice has been sought, this is the advice I would offer if one were to hope to find themselves in a similar position where their advice is sought.
Lmao. Just putting it out there where else people can look for better tips in the same realm. Thanks for the unsolicited advice! What a weird game to play
That meant the world to me. I know success doesn't come so easily but when you have as much passion for something as we have for this, it's hard to be patient sometimes. Thank you so much for helping us grow :)
Dot Epiphany Ent. At least the music/lip syncing snaps have music, but even then, everyone just plays the same ten songs over and over again. I do it occasionally but at least I don't do THAT! Hell, I have a completely different taste then most of the people I have on Snapchat. The Starbucks posts, I never do because coffee is horrible. Anything else you can think of?
Speaking of backlogs.. ahem.. My biggest social media peeve is the people who spam on all your videos with the exact same copy pasta: 'Great video, I've subbed. come check my channel (insert link). I agree with what you said, it's much better to engage with specifics than it is to carpet bomb the same message over and over.
My biggest Social media pet peeve is when bands start pushing their political opinions on their audience. People come for good music, not your political stance. All it does is make me feel less connected to the band and their music
The worst pet peeve I have is comment thread wars. They don't make me happy about the state of humanity, so reading said threads wastes time and conditions me to be an egomaniac. Not to mention that people are emotionally triggered.
SM Pet Peeves: Adding just to unadd. Yeah thanks for spending no time at all. Snapchat lip syncing snaps playing the same handful of boring rap songs. At least try to play something different, I don't care who made it or what genre it is. I don't wanna here Rain Drop, Drop Top a million times over, or at least do something interesting with it. (I'm guilty of lip syncing on Snapchat I'll admit but at least it's mostly rock and metal and EDM if there's lyrics) The word "Daddy" being used by my female peers. It's like the "I can't even" or "Yaas" things. It's annoying and I have no clue where it stemmed from. (Then again it's probably more annoying in real life)
Made video recently on building websites for your music: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oPYLQlmO7I8.html Might be handy for those of you considering getting into Wix, 'n all that
Don’t ask me to Thumbs up and hit the bell and all that stuff in the first five seconds of your video do it at the end make it predictable so I can skip it and go right to thumbs up maybe subscribe
I hate reaction videos and brag videos. Those are quick unfollows for me. For some reason everyone is making idiotic videos of themselves making faces at the way someone else is performing. Why? And one guy did a video about his most expensive guitars. You have to list the gear you're using so people understand the tones you're getting, but to brag about your gear being stupidly expensive is only going to bring on hate. I haven't watched any of his videos since then.
