You should do one on compression, like the differences between zip and rar. Or maybe on compression for media other than archives, I'd like to know why red colors always get jacked up
A lot of streaming services serve their files over HTTP, even for their native mobile apps. In fact, Apple requires streaming services' mobile apps to use live streaming over HTTP for better bandwidth control. There's plenty of non-browser HTTP usage primarily because the caching behaviors of HTTP make distributing the load of serving large numbers of clients far easier than with other protocols.
I was actually saying "Hell no!" to my monitor when Linus talked about Google moving everything to web interfaces. I want full control over my system and my files. This is why I use Linux, Libre Office, Thunderbird, Code::Blocks, Pidgin, FileZilla, Hexchat, KeePass, etc. I maintain methods of physically disconnecting peripherals so that I can control how much a breach affects me. I encrypt my files, I fragment website's data on me as best I can. I want to control my systems, and I won't hand over any control to any company without knowing that they are reliable and on my side. My only exceptions to this are when there is no better alternative, like with social platforms, however I will still support those who protect my privacy, even if it means a loss of convenience.
Eliah Hughes Andruha Ivashin Staraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaight! ***** I just tried. Doesn't seem to look that bad tho. _ps: you do realize __Andruha Ivashin__ was actually joking by saying that movie quote. Right?_
I'm glad to see a video that points out the difference between the web and the Internet and kudos for bringing up Gopher without getting too far into it to confuse people. :)
Thanks for doing this episode, this is something I've often pondered, but never found a simple answer to. Also, would you mind doing a TQ on the Mariana's web conspiracies? I think it'd be a fun episode to watch
this is the 4th video i have watched and finally someone explained the difference in a way i can understand thnx, the movie theater example was really helpful.
The Internet includes Email, File Sharing, Bulletin Boards, Chat Rooms, World Wide Web and other tools/services. The World Wide Web is a part of the Internet. And also Internet and internet are two different things. The capital (I) Internet is the Internet as we know and use it and is a global internet. The lower case (i) internet means a network of computer networks, so even if you only have 5 offices located in 5 separate locations each with their own network of computers and you connect those 5 offices it can be called an internet though of course not on a global scale.
"...unless your job is to serve popcorn to unruly teenagers at a Twilight release." Thanks, Linus - I had just gotten over my PTSD from my time as a theater manager, and you had to bring that back up. Bra-fucking-vo!
WWW is basically Tim Berners-Lee's implementation of hypertext as a markup language together with a transport protocol. Just to make it completely clear. Also, minus points for not mentioning Xanadu.
Hey for a future fast as possible... can you do different types of solid state storage because well there must be something other than flash storage... right?
Outlook is an awesome well organized and intuitive email service. I used to think it sucks until I got my hands on one from the company I'm working at. It's definitely better than Yahoo or google mail and, at the very least it's way better than that shit for a thing called lotus notes.
are there not links between visual frames and audio frames in order to keep a link between the visual frame and audio frame from falling out of sync? I was sure that was a thing. And the argument that web use has been decreasing has totally missed my perception of use trends based on everything being ported or moved to remote storage and processing. I no understand "decreasing for the last few years."
Hey Linus, care to explain why a iPhoney with a dual core can record videos at 720p/240fps but a HTC One ME with a octo-core can only manage 120fps? Great videos dude, keep up the good work!
Actually, Hotmail is "Outlook" now. You can go on your same Hotmail account, but it's on Outlook. Maybe they realized that the program was pointless, so they changed the Hotmail... thing.
Linus - how about a FAP episode on GPU TDR crashes? Like... why do they happen? Why does overclocking your GPU cause them? Why do games basically crash instead of just stalling for a minute waiting for the GPU to fix itself?
Idk whether linus has done a video on rops but I'd like to know, why is more rops better. do more rops equal a lot of performance? does less stream processors and more rops better or is little rops and many stream processor?
Lol why did I click this video when I already understand this. This is helpful if your very old or have a difficult time understanding technology. Other then that these videos are always informative and helpful.
Linus is partly incorrect when he's telling that the web usage is slowing down. Ofc there is an increase in mobile and console app usage. But usually these apps make use of so-called web APIs. They don't serve HTML like a website do, but they still communicate over the HTTP or HTTPS protocol. So apps are using the web as backbone.
For those that are too lazy to understand or watch the whole thing: Web = HTTP and HTTPS on port 80 and 443 Internet = everything else from port 1 to 65535 (POP, SMTP, FTP,SFTP, RDP, VoIP, and everything else)
GRIZZLY_GUY it's basically supersampling. Fitting a higher resolution picture through a lower resolution medium. It will look better, but not as good as a true higher res. medium.
Random pony reference again. Do a My Little Pony as Fast as Possible video! Also, 2:57 using an Apple device to run a Google app to browse a Microsoft website, this is a sin.
i'm still not getting part of what the internet is, specifically icann. does that mean if i want to access the same websites still running, i'd need to type something besides "http" theoretically as an example?
Hey man i have a question. it,s amd athlon x4 860k a good cpu for gaming? i have gtx750 ti GPU and 12 gb ram ddr3 1600 mhz =))))))) respond pls :))))))
and what protocols do you think mobile apps actually use? Most of them consume an API via HTTP or HTTPS. Either I'm confused when you say that web use is decreasing or you have no clue what you're talking about...
Ok..... this is getting rediclos now, Linus you have a MLP fan in the office! your videos contain alot more mlp content than most channels somthings up! XD
