The chemistry they have here is unbelievable. This live version has more emotion and sounds even better than the album version. Whoever filmed this deserves an award.
There’s a gut wrenchingly clutching sadness and anger about this song that has made it linger in my head since the day I heard it, yet I find it very hard to actually bring my self to listen to it.
Usually those feelings can be associated with melancholy and I agree, it’s a mix of the chords the guitar play and the lyrics; hell even the title has the faint bit of sadness
MrSkateboardbassplay could be that she’s dead but I feel This song is about a girl that gets down. Every verse is dropped in poetically camouflaged sexual lines. Biggest hint is “catatonic sex toy, love joy diver”.
@@StackofPancakes126 sex and suicide. They were in a strange relationship, not a serious one, I believe, it was just sex. She was a drug addicted ("was just like her scuba days" were days when she's high) and he talks about the time she was alive and them kind of 'love' (well she was my catatonic sex-toy-love-joy-diver). This song is freaking sad. (sorry for my bad english)
That's rather interesting, I remember I was finally taking them seriously in 2006 on nye and it just then that I saw Saddam Hussein being hung from a stairwell. I was like "...shit let me get the fck off the internet, right now." I started listening to the bass solo and build up to Public Pervert, funny name - good song. Then I just stayed a fan. They really can build moods like no one else; the first four albums have the Carlos keys and bass.
TVinmyEye so you’ve spent about 27 days just listening to this song in your life. Wow, that’s impressive! But no wonder, this song is the most beautiful one out there
thank you for this, there is nothing better than seeing a band you like before they got overly popular. these are rare moments to hold in such a high resolution.
I heard this song for the first time a few days ago. I'm no Joy Division New Order expert, but, I could swear this was them. I'll try to see them on tour. Great song, so glad I learned it.
Absolutely love seeing old footage of the late 90s/early 2000s New York indie bands. Incredible time during music. And man do I miss Carlos D! Monster player. Undoubtedly an influence on a legion of young bassists.
@@iand4374 I think at first he really enjoyed it, you can see it here and in some other live videos where he seems to be so passionate, but then he got bored and wanted to play the guitar too, and the problems started
This one's called "Stella Was A Driver And She's Always Down When she walks down the street She knows there's people watching The building fronts are just fronts To hide the people watching her She once fell through the street Down the manhole in that bad way, he-ey The underground drip It's just like her scuba days Days Daze Days Daze Days She was all right 'cause the sea was so airtight she broke away She was all right 'cause the sea was so airtight she broke away She was all right but she can't come out tonight she broke away She was all right 'cause the sea was so tight, air-tight She broke away broke away She broke away broke away She broke away broke away She broke away Stella is a diver Stella is a diver Stella is a diver Stella is a diver Stella, Stella, Stella, Stella Bottom of the ocean she dwells Bottom of the ocean she dwells Crevices carressed by fingers And fat blue serpent swells Stella Stella Oh, Stella Stella I love you, stella I love you, stella I love you She was all right 'cause the sea was so airtight she broke away She was all right 'cause the sea was so airtight she broke away She was all right but she can't come out tonight she broke away She was all right yeah the sea was so tight, air-tight She broke away broke away She broke away broke away She broke away broke away She broke away Well she was my catatonic sex toy love-joy diver Well she was my catatonic sex toy love-joy diver She went down down down there into the sea She went down down down there down there for me, right on Oh yeah Right on It's so good Oh yeah Right on It's so good Oh yeah There's something that's invisible There's some things you can't hide Try to detect you when I'm sleeping In a wave you say goodbye There's something that's invisible There's some things you can't hide Try to detect you when I'm sleeping In a wave you say goodbye
I don't think we've ever thanked you enough for your amazing videos "Rocket Bar". I allow myself to do it now for everyone. Thank you very much Luis !!
The weirdest thing, I suddenly remembered going up a railing on my 1st day of school in 1st grade, then this automatically came on after something else I was listening to before I noticed the music to it reminded of something I dont think every happened. Then I saw the date.long story short this was the same day as my 1st day of my 1st grade. Weird. Amazing. I feel a completely strange sense nostalgia when listening to Interpol.
Wait... So you heard them there? You were just walking nearby or you went to this "concert"? Anyway, that sounds like... woooow. You don't even know how lucky you are!
Very intimate look at the band. I like the simple camera angles - how you can see their hands strumming in unison (and Carlos's spider fingers, haha). Really hoping to catch them on tour!
One of the best bands of the last fifteen years easily...!!! Just amazing live!!! Very happy to have been just 20 when this came out. Music now is shit compared to this...Who can compete with this?
The only bands who put on just as good a live show from this era, if not better, are Franz Ferdinand and The Strokes. These three bands defined my early 20s, so I feel you.
Hands down one of my favorite live performances to watch here on youtube. I saw them on this tour and was just blown away. a-f*cking-mazing. Just unreal. I would follow them to the ends of the earth if I had too. Thanks for posting this video :)
I was 16 and just loved the sound of this band and this song especially, but didn't pay attention to much of the lyrcis. Now that i've come back at 23 i realize what this song is actually about. right on haha
what a great video! props to whomever made this. I was too engrossed in seeing them LIVE to have stared through a lens & missed the moment when I saw Interpol, a mere 2 times many, many years ago. Interpol will always be in my head, in my stereo, in the car cd player, in my gut burning, evoking feelings I can't & don't want to shake. This is my permanent midnite music. my dopamine is doing backflips currently. INTERPOL I miss them, the line-up before bassist left, his fixed eery gaze, sexualLAVA
i love this.. i love seeing old videos from this era but i always feel a bit envious that i wasnt old enough to witness this firsthand. i was probably 5 when this came out & now 24 year old me is wishing i was this age back then
