I really liked all of these couples, but I loved the white man/black women one in particular. They had a great, comfortable dynamic, and it was clear they're friends as well as partners. I'm currently in my first interracial relationship, and people seem a lot more comfortable commenting on his attractiveness than they did when I dated white guys ... The hardest thing of raising biracial children is making sure that they'll embrace both sides of the family. Make sure that they don't feel like they have to choose and are proud of being exactly who they are. I agree with the difference between white moms raising half back children vs black moms with half white children and I have a white mom.

When my kids were in grade school (late 80’s early 90’s) the school secretary called and told me the kids had to choose one race on their forms they couldn’t be marked down as both Asian and Caucasian. I told her I would not make them choose, it was ridiculous that they hadn’t changed the form for more than one race being noted ( we had a number of mixed kids in our neighborhood ) and that if I found out she changed it we were going to have a problem. Our kids lives are richer for coming from two different races and cultures.

What I noticed from this video when I myself am currently in an interracial relationship is how much the family side of the things can affect the partner. On my end, I am Hispanic, and my partner is white. She constantly asks me if my family accepts her since she's the only white person in the family now. I wish she understood how much my family loves her, but I can also understand that the stigma behind it all can make her feel unsure/doubtful.

I mean, in general, you want your partner's family to be accepting of you if you want a future together, but I think when there's that racial/ethnical jump, that unconscious fear of not being accepted gets magnified because there's larger cultural gaps...and with cultural gaps usually come differences in values and beliefs. people generally aren't flexible about their values and beliefs once they are older.

I feel her pain. Except his mom is constantly throwing jabs and shade at me. She once asked about my tattoo and used me as a learning lesson for her other child. Saying her daughter should never get a tattoo. That’s just one example. She’s asked who’s house is better. Hers or my parents. It’s actually so sad for me bc I will never be the Latino catholic doctor she wants him to marry. Thankfully my boyfriend is very good to me and makes me feel better!

I get the opposite feeling from my wife’s family, she’s black and I’m white, tho it’s eased up a lot over the years especially after she gave birth to our first son. When we first got together her brother and sisters, hell even her father were saying “she’d run straight into the arms of a master.”

I wish there were more questions about the positive aspects of interracial relationships. Dating people from different races (and in my case they were from different nationalities as well) made me learn so much about their cultures, it opened new cultural spheres to me, made me learn new languages, got me more interested in geopolitics or history and eventually made me understand the world much better. Also, it forces you to communicate on a new level : cultural shocks can create misunderstanding, so you're becoming much better at expressing what you feel and how you think to prevent those. Especially if you're not speaking in your mother tongue with your partner. For those reasons I'm thankful for all my past international relationships, even the not-so-good ones. I loved the video anyway ! (The black woman and white guy couple is amazing haha)

My middle eastern sensors are tingling. I think that lady is not fully saying the truth about her experience as a middle eastern or specifically muslim. The idea that her family is very religious muslims, yet she doesn't know that Jum'aa (which means Friday btw) prayer is on FRIDAY + that there are 5 prayers a day and not reading Quran... It sounds like her family wasn't Muslim or not religious as she made it seem because she will definitely know this stuff if they were. You don't need to be against the middle eastern culture just because you have shitty parents. The middle east has many beautiful cultural things that are very special and beautiful.
