After the fatal shooting of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, cast and crew members who were present on the movie set were brought in for questioning. Alec Baldwin, who is accused of firing the gun that killed Hutchins, appeared distraught after the incident and even broke down when he learned Hutchins died. Actor Jensen Ackles detailed his recollection of events leading up to the shooting, stating he was shocked live rounds ended up on set. Baldwin’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, gave her side of the story. Gutierrez-Reed stood trial and was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in Hutchins’ death. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber breaks down key moments from their interrogations.

@@MrPriceMonroe Not to be pedantic but no, those rounds according to the actor and the props master stayed in the belts for the entire filming and wouldn’t be used in the guns themselves. But you’re right, they did find one live round in there which is horrible.

Film director here. Even if Alec is producer overall, the head of department, in this case armaments director; the armaments director is the person who ultimately decides that the weapons are safe to fire or not.

@@smittymossedem1967 He is an actor who was also a producer and had the power over Hannah and could refuse to work under the conditions that he knew were unsafe but he didn't care. There is evidence that on his gun safety training he didn't pay attention and ignored it. Also there are videos of him pointing a gun at many, many people which is in fact something that should get him thrown out from the set. He claims he knows the safety protocol but then neglects his responsibility to not point a gun at people. He is putting his finger on the trigger when every actor of his caliber is aware that you NEVER EVER do that. You are to assume that every gun you hold is loaded even if it isn't. Yes, Hannah was the one responsible for gun safety and she had her trial and was found guilty but now it is time for Baldwin to meet the consequences of his negligence and reckless behaviour. He too is responsible as he is the one that put a finger on the trigger and pointed it at Helena when the scene he practiced did not even include him taking out a gun from the holster all the way. He knew of the dangers and did it anyway so he should learn that he does not get the special treatment because he is famous. He killed a person even when it was not his intention, he undermined the basic rules that would prevent this outcome. It would be enough if he just adhered to gun safety rules and he wouldn't be the one persecuted.

In the state of New Mexico, the laws that apply to regular gun owners and handlers apply even on a film set, so Alec needed to heed those regulations, not just the ones as anachronistic actor.

Because of negligence. It was well aware that the staff had been playing with real bullets (not kidding, they were shooting them off for fun). Some crew members even quit, fearing for their lives. The armourer had a previous history of negligence, but was still hired. And yet, people were STILL careless, not checking the guns and aiming them at people.

Didn't even know Ackles was in the movie. HOW TF does a LIVE ROUND get into prop gun. This was an actor doing his job. Blaming him as being a producer is nonsense. He is a producer, not a weapons expert, stuntman, makeup artist, cinematographer, etc. Like stop. He has his job, they have their job. This just seems like someone purposely put a live round in there, just like how they got Brandon Lee.

The people that let the live round on set are most culpable. Baldwin however is also culpable for pointing a real gun at people and pulling the trigger. There are dozens of ways to avoid that on a movie set that is ran properly. Baldwin has been in movies for 4 decades and has been briefed on basic gun safety rules dozens of times.

Alec should be able to confidently fire a prop gun on set at any time, it's supposed to be a prop. No live rounds should be anywhere on set, at all. Gutierrez looks so guilty in her interview with detectives. The self-soothing is abundant. The fact that she carries rounds around in her pocket screams unprofessionalism.

The prosecution in Hannah’s trial showed pictures of her with (presumably) live Long Colt 45 rounds BEFORE the prop ammunition was delivered to set. They argued she accidentally mixed in live rounds with prop ones.

We've managed to convict and imprison some celebrities on historical SA cases in England. Also, we don't have lawyers giving random statements to the press either. Unless they've been knighted for services as a human rights lawyer, moved into politics and elected as a Member of Parliament. You then have the option to become leader of political party and go on to win a General Election, and be invited King Charles to form a government as Prime Minister. Or you present a TV show with a fellow barrister when you look at historic but unknown cases to see if a conviction was safe or unsafe. Just love Murder, Mystery and My Family.

Totally different situation. Shrapnel from a live round became unknowingly lodged in the barrel. A blank round was loaded, which still has gunpowder in it. That powder propelled the shrapnel out of the barrel and into Lee's chest. That is an accident, this was negligence.

Not surprised. I worked with this director on a very rushed production, in which they cut corners and took risks that put crew and actors in danger. Joel brought real guns to set and no precaution was taken to ensure the safety of actors and crew. He also borrowed and lost a real police badge later blaming it on set dec and threatening them. Demanded an assistant run on wet floors to grab a prop, mixed props with trash in the same truck, and took zero responsibility for every incident that occurred on this project. I had a sense of dread and foreboding working with Joel and I am not shocked, only surprised that something like this did not occur sooner.

Actors are just that...actors. It's the armorer's job to ensure the gun is cold. It's then the assistant directors job to double check and ensure the gun is cold. Neither of them did that and both of them told Alex the gun was cold. It's why they were both found guilty.

He’s a great actor. He was so great in Glen Gary Glen Ross legendary role he played in that film. This was a terrible accident but I don’t think he should go to prison for it. It was a freak accident whoever loaded the gun with the live round should be blamed.

I was actually looking forward to this movie. Not only Jensen Ackles but Travis Fimmel, from Vikings, was going to be in this movie. Should always handle a gun like it is loaded even if you think it is not. There has been a lot of people shot because they thought the gun was empty.

My question is if you're the armorer your job is supposed to be to be with the weapons at all times you are there to give the actor the weapon stay while the weapon is being used and there to take it back. But she said she wasn't there but Baldwin says she handed him the weapon. So did she hand him the weapon then clear out? Just seems weird
