Had the good fortune to take a class with David in Ann Arbor Michigan. I learned so much and he is an expert teacher! So glad I made the trip to learn under a master…..I’ve got to practice what I learned there more because it’s so energetic and lively to look at . His work is beautiful and his technique inspiring. Although I was fearful to try it, I put out three beautiful paintings in his workshop.

Huge fan of David's work thanks for this so inspirational . I am always trying to paint looser and he is a master at it! :-)) Love hearing his process and how he got to where he is with his art. Taking risks , so true.

Great interview. Confirms all my thoughts about art and painting. I too went to art school- though I suspect long before David. We were schooled in in the academy method, but it was during the height of abstract expressionism. Luckily, I got both. I would have liked to know if he's tried acrylics, as I suspect he uses oils. One of the best things to come out of the international lockdown, is Zoom sessions with live models for very reasonable fees. Thus, drawing and water-based media have been my M.O. for now. BTW, his work is somewhat similar (but on a much smaller scale) to Harry Stooshinoff. Check him out.

I should watch this once a month. Large brushes and experiment ! Don't stop when it's uncomfortable! And stop before I start over working!

I am glad to hear David did not begin to use large brushes overnight. I have such a hard time with this. Maybe a few years time will allow me to become more loose in my painting style.

It’s related to confidence in your painting ability, so with increased experience you will likely get looser. It’s a very common path for painters.

Great video but im now confused. 1.Who was made upp this stile,??? 2.I have some photos in Book from Camille Pissaro. In earlier his works, he was paint similar way.(As we knows He was also the teacher of imressionists, later) 3..Richard Schmid Also was going in same Art school as David Shevlino)and He was teach this Alla Prima stile for his students in America. He was published two Books about this Stile and all other Artists following his Stile. As Chelsea Lang,Daniel Key and others. 4.So my toughts about David Shevlino talk here:- Im questioning him ,who was made upp this Stile? He?as He say or Camille P.or Richard Schmid??I dont like mess in informations ,sorry.
