Ordered it....been umming and ahing it for a while...but this great video made me do it (thx for the NWS tip by the way - saving a few bucks there)...and for the heck of it - ordered Korea too. Awesome.
What a great collection of gentlemen! I really enjoyed this stream and the dedication of all to bring these games to fruition is worthy of great praise. I will buy and play all of those games Tony although not together unless I can drive wife from the house and knock some walls down!
I dropped three other pre-orders to pre-order this game. I'm certain it'll be well worth it! Great interview, Gary! It's enlightening to hear about what this group of guys had to say about OCS. This interview made me go buy Hungarian Rhapsody (don't tell the Mrs....)
Should get my copy later this week. We dipped our toes back into OCS last Friday, after a break of around 10 years, with the smaller scenario from Reluctant enemies. The first turn took an age to play but was a great reminder of why I like the OCS system so much.
@@tonybirkett7512 It would be fantastic to get together with my gaming chums and huddle up in a large cottage in the Lake District for a week and have as much fun and creativity with Third Winter as we did when we first got our hands on Guardian's Blitzkrieg ask those years ago.
So ... one thing about creating a "OCS Barbarossa" out of all these games: Many of them are OoP. :( Wonder if there's any chance MMP will be more pro-active wrt. re-prints?
It might be that this depends on the particular development group involved. I can verify that there has been a Third Winter vassal module for playtesting for several years. It's my thought that Curtis wants to move Vassal testing considerably forward in the process. If I remember (ha ha) I'll bring this up next time I have the guys on.
Wrt. core rules evolution, I look forward to good ideas making the gameplay even deeper. I think I only have 1 wish: That OCS stays away from these magical global off-map resources which you can dump anywhere on the map without pre-planning. It has always felt very non-wargame'y to me to have some "chits" or "points" you can just decrease and achieve some magical effect somewhere. Things like the "Momentum chits" in BoAR, - or some of the uses of "Offensive Points" in WiF. In OCS, I'm thinking of the "Supply Cache" rule specifically. It just seems to go against the whole point of OCS that you have to plan your offensive logistically in terms of infrastructure, but you are team-playing with Thor on your team and can spend a lightning strike to completely override that whole part of the game.
I was also wary of the supply cache mechanic at first, for similar reasons. IN practice, though, I don't feel it has a large net effect; it's just a little extra you can draw upon, or give pocketed forces a little more staying power.
