To be fair, some of the most vibrant streets in Toronto don’t have streetcars and are only served by buses (or they had streetcars added to them more recently because they were already so bustling). Those streets were built up after Toronto’s streetcar era. And American transit can’t be compared to Canadian transit at all. I’m not sure whether it’s Canada’s weather or Canada’s lower income or Canada’s lower car subsidies, but Canadian cities have much higher transit ridership than American cities. American transit is run more like a charity for the poor whereas Canadian transit is actually run as real transportation for real people.
