Fab Yep! White and Hispanic women tend to go to Black salons to straighten their beautiful curls, because they know we can straighten the hell out of some hair! My mom used to be a hairstylist, so I have seen it firsthand.

Kiki Renee Sounds like my life...I know exactly what you mean. That generational curse did not go beyond me. My daughters are confident, independent, beautiful, intelligent, hard working women with college degrees and jobs. I'm the only child of 10 of my mom's with a college degree and my daughters are the only grand children with college degrees out of 26. I'm extremely proud and blessed to have endured trials throughout my childhood because that's what truly contributed to my determination and fight. My mom had mental health issues also and was mistreated horribly by her family members and having seen that it definitely made me aware of how not to be and what not to do in my own children's rearing. I was never taught these things, never heard an I love you or I'm proud of you until I was placed in foster care. That was my saving grace and examples of what family is supposed to be. I had no clue how to take care of my hair naturally. Being the only biracial girl in my family was met with constant ridicule, hateful acts, continued abuse, daily mocking and teasing, threats to cut off my hair or shave it bald....you name it and it was probably done. My foster family was my guardian family. I'm positive my life would be so different or possibly I'd have no life had I not been placed in foster care. All that was left behind me and I shower my children with love, conversation, caring family, involved mother...expressions of love and commitment is priority. My children know of my childhood trials and have said they are amazed I'm still sane!😄😄 Whitney, what a beautiful family and great role model for Olivia and so many other girls and young women! Keep doing what you do! You're phenomenal!❤❤

I just can't! Olivia is already 4 and CAN talk and even says "I love me"? I remember like yesterday when Whitney was still preggers with "Bobbles" and now look at what beautiful, vivacious, confident and smart little girl she and Felipe brought into this world! Whew, the feels are real tonight! Yesterday I heard my cousin's 12 year old daughter say that black hair is not beautiful. It broke my heart. It's not her fault, she obviously has been indoctrinated. I hope she gets to change her perception of our hair. A dear dream and intention of mine is that all black girls, no matter big or small, be brought and raised in an environment that is accepting, affirming, validating and most of all celebrating of all aspects of black beauty, be it hair, edges, kitchen (lol), skin complexion, nails, eyebrows, nose shape, body type, etc. Thank you much Whitney for having created such a beautiful platform for my sisters, aunts, mothers, nieces and daughters. Thank you for not only changing but REWRITING the narrative and perception of our hair heritage and culture, as well as for participating in the raising a new generation of self-loving, self-affirming, and self-confident black girls, who, I have no doubt in my heart, will turn into beautiful, smart and centered grown women. All it takes is one grown woman returning natural and BOOM, a ripple effect ensues, and a whole generation and community are transformed. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I love you and your family so much!

And those who have boys also have the responsibility to pass on the right message and be an example, someone to look up to. The self hate and hate against black women can also finds its roots at home... I agree it's really time to change the narrative for good.

I have a 5 year old son and I have been growing his hair since he was a baby. He likes his hair but since he started kindergarten he has been getting negative comments from some of his male peers. So I just tell him that he is beautiful with his hair and he doesn't look like a girl he look like himself Adenai. I also show him that I love my own natural hair and he loves it too. I will be teaching my unborn daughter to love herself and her hair as well.

Straight. Wavy. Beautiful, and so are you. I am a beautiful mix of Kenyan and American, my Mom - 2C/3A Dad-4C. Whoever you are just know that no matter what anyone says or thinks you and your hair is beautiful and never forget that.

Yes, this is my second, but longest run going natural as an adult. But, I cannot imagine relaxing my hair, again. Relaxers have always been a little too harsh for my hair. I am done with them. I love natural hair! I am with Olivia! 😂😂
@caroljean0220
@caroljean0220 7 лет назад
Even though my daughter is grown (35 years), I believe that I've encouraged her to go natural. She was always using relaxers, and her hair was always breaking. When she saw how my hair was growing, how I was able to manage my natural hair, and wear it in a beautiful fro, she actually stopped using relaxers over 6 months ago, and has taken on the natural hair journey with me. Just yesterday, she mentioned to me that she believes her hair is growing, and it has. She is taking better care of her hair, and has become more confident in how to wear different styles for natural hair. It is a journey for us both, but a better and healthier journey we can take together! Back in the day when I was growing up, we wore our hair natural, but we didn't have the hair products that are available to us now. I would get my hair washed and pressed every two weeks (hard pressed), and that was it. I was made fun of if my hair got wet because it would "go back" so quick to the nappy texture, that we thought was so bad. Now I love my natural texture, and can't wait to see what 2017 for my natural journey! Thanks Whitney!

I'm only 16 and my mom was apart of the generation where she was told that straight silky hair was "proper" hair so in the beginning natural hair wasn't discussed much. Growing up around girls with straighter and longer hair I felt very insecure about mine, I felt it was nappy, messy, kinda ugly too. Whenever I got my hair done with extensions I always felt happier. But as the years have progressed, I taught myself to love me for me and everything about me, my mom also followed me in the journey of natural beauty and the love of it. Before I started loving my hair, I would feel comfortable when it was out without any hair ties or whatever and I still do today. Keeping my hair out feels great, especially after braids or twist outs and the length has increased too. Whenever I do protective styling with extensions I start to miss my hair after like 2 weeks. I love my hair and I'm proud of it!

I absolutely love this!!! I am a third grade teacher and on picture day it makes me sad when my students with textured hair straighten their hair. This shows me that they already have the belief that they look their best when their hair is straight. So when they wear it natural I tell them how beautiful and perfect they are when they rock their natural hair. I don't want them to grow up not loving themselves just because society has told them that they should look different in order to be beautiful. I really hope that my words to them will stick with them throughout their lives. I wish I had someone telling me how beautiful my curly hair was when I was growing up.

My daughter is the reason why I went natural. This was way before I knew it was a thing. She wanted straight hair like the little girls in her class because they would get compliments from the teachers. So I decided that I would embrace my natural hair to set an example for her. I would tell her all the time, people want curls like you. Now that she is in Jr High she is realizing this fact. She comes home telling me how her classmates admire her curls and are always wanting to touch them. I love how she is now proud of her hair. Now if I can only get her to comb it! :-) #LoveYourHair

EH CBunny No his hair is white like wool not textured wooly. It's comparing his hair color to the color of a sheep's wool. I'm just clarifying it because I never heard that before and maybe you misunderstood.

I'm so glad you did this with Olivia, and also that you did it with your grays showing. It really authenticates the message. Thanks for all you do Whitney!

I started to wear my natural hair in mid 2015. School was ending and I decided to braid my hair up then take it down in the morning. I thought it looked so beautiful! Of course I never really liked my untouched hair because it was coily and kinda tight, unlike most of the other mixed girls who had loose ringlets. I did my first was n go in jan 2016 and I absolutely loved it. That was when I truly began to love my hair

Self-love and confidence is very important. Well done Naptural85 for instilling this in your princess from a young age. It's the same thing I have been telling my son since he was a baby. May our children continue to appreciate their natural beautify in all forms.

this video really connected with me. I was about 18 when I started watching your videos and your journey made me know I could be beautiful with natural hair. I wasn't crazy for delaying a relaxer. I was waiting to find your videos and inspiration for a new chapter in my journey with natural hair. It's so touching to see Olivia, looking at you and then herself, to fix her hair, because in many ways, your much younger subscribers like me, we are basically doing exactly the same thing....
