Interview with an Assassin

The target killers of Karachi, Pakistan, assassinate politicians, police, and protesters for as little as $700 a pop. In this excerpt from "The VICE Guide to Karachi," VICE cofounder Suroosh Alvi interviews an armed target killer in the backseat of a taxi.
Mainstream news outlets are virtually devoid of information about the target killers of Karachi, Pakistan. This is probably because even if you manage to land an interview with one, there's always the chance you will be murdered before completing it. Those of you who have already watched The VICE Guide to Karachi know that somehow, someway, VICE co-founder Suroosh Alvi figured out a way to do it.
For the rest of you, we have excised Suroosh's ominous but candid interview with one of Karachi's approximately 600 target killers so that you can whet your beak now and plan to watch the full-length version tonight at home. Their conversation took place in in the backseat of a car, the hitman wearing a motorcycle helmet and his pistol stashed in between Suroosh's feet as he confessed the bloody truth about his work and the very dismal state of affairs in his hometown.

People, c'mon, just because he's an assassin doesn't mean he's going to be ripped and walking around in all black with tactical gear or anything like that. Most hit men look like normal, every day people, and most also are like this guy. They get into the business because it seems like a good option and then they can't get out and end up either getting killed or suffering mental issues. These guys are simple hitmen in the middle of a war torn country. It's not like they're James Bond or CIA type guys like you see in the movies.

***** So now I have to personally know assassins to know the obvious? The obvious being that they don't meet the stereotypical spec ops style badass? I do know of the industry and have looked into some of the most renowned assassins out of pure curiosity. Go take a look for yourself. All of them seemed like normal, simple people who you wouldn't suspect. I don't have to be a fucking expert or genius to know that assassins are normal people just trying to get by, like most other criminals.

They asked us questions (without helmets on) about our documentary, and we asked them about their "profession". Nothing without a TT Pistol, 7.62x25 rips trough regular body armor like nothing, this gun is an AK among handguns.

Or a Five-Seven with FMJ rounds. Modern gun that's lightweight, has low recoil, 21 bullets per mag, and tears through all soft body armor. Just expensive.
@kara88bg
@kara88bg 9 лет назад
Yeah Naw Exactly that, Five Seven is superior gun to this one but its very expensive. Tokarev TT is a 80 year old gun, powerful enough, dirt cheap and available pretty much everywhere around the world where Soviets had any influence.

Matthew Minnich You can just walk into a gun store and buy a five-seven if you have enough money and some ID. they would probably send people that are not directly in the dirty work and pay him some money.

Matthew Minnich yep I just checked. Five-Seven's are available in almost every country that you can buy a handgun with the right ID, it is worth around 15000$-20000$ and thats nothing for cartels who take their jobs seriously.

search on MQM target killlers especially Saulat Mirza's interview.. You'd know what stone cold killer means.. There are no blades in karachi.. only two modes.. the small gun like he had (called TT pistol locally) and Klashinkov.. With TT pistol 50% the time the man dies never even get to see the face of his killer.. target is on bike.. and killer + tracker follow on other bikes.. killer brings the gun on the back of the head, point blank range.. and trigger!
@XxPurpleXHazeX
@XxPurpleXHazeX 9 лет назад
Rehan Shah The TT tokarev is just a 7.62x25mm round. Its good at penetrating certain body armors..... the pistol only holds 8 rounds. the FNH five Seven 5.7mm round has better body armor penetration, better ballistics, less overpenetration, and it holds 20 shots with optional 30 shot magazine
@pingusbror
@pingusbror 9 лет назад
XxPurpleXHazeX It's not like they have very many options haha... The TT 33 has been used in an extremely large scale, and therefore it's *much* easier to get than a much more modern pistol. There's a reason most criminal organisations use AK type rifles and RPG type rocket launchers (and the TT 33), it's because they are much easier to get than a M110 fully decked out with a FLIR scope and silencer, and way cheaper, since do you really think someone who has turned to killing other people for a living as a last resort would be able to afford a gun that isn't a piece of garbage compared to modern technology?
@d34klife
@d34klife 9 лет назад
XxPurpleXHazeX five sevens are so expensive. This guy is killing people at 700 a pop. Probably has rent to pay, bills, needs food and has a drug habit. Who has money for a 5 7 here if they are a drug addicted hit man? Seems pretty sad and down on his luck

ive met a killer once in my life. he was renting an apartement together with a friend of mine in bangkok. he was quite a religious guy, pretty calm and relaxed considering his line of work. my friend told me he did it for his family and was involved in some of shootings that occured durning the big red/yellow protest. two months after i left, my friend found him shot dead in the apartement, he told me the police did it after he completed a job for them, apparantly..but who knows. the political situation over there is insane. but its unfair to say professions like that are a result of poverty. while true to some extent...our society will always have the need for hitman. the profession is as old as prostitution, wich is considered "the oldest business". we will always have ppl doing the dirty work. its just sad that ppl who hire them (big CEO's, politicians, bankers) dont go for quality ..they just give some poor guy 1000 bucks or even less. usually the guy ends up dead or in jail. also the most succesfull and best paid killers are the ones working for government institutions like cia or some other organization we've never even heard about. and the most usable and openly accepted killers are in the army. where they tell you to fight for freedom, while killing civilians and stealing ressources.

More than 10 or 15 years ago I heard an interview on national public radio. The interviewer was interviewing a man who had been paid by a major United States based corporation to go to Thailand and kill pedophiles. He knew that he was part of a larger network of other hired assassin’s that would kill pedophiles and was given a cover story and appointments with businesses and a whole back story for a cover. He would spend one or two days in a foreign country going to the appointments were he would sit in a room alone and after a couple of hours he would leave and go back to his hotel room and on the last night he was there he would go to a house of prostitution and ask for a child. When the pimp or Madame would bring him a child he would kill the pan or Madame and then go room to room and anyone having sex or suspected of having sex with a child would be killed and he would go directly to the airport and leave in the middle of night. If anyone can give me any information as to the origin of the story or anything I would really appreciate it I have tried many times and cannot find it.

This work is actually respectful. Active Pedos are a huge problem. And going through legal limbos is even more complex especially depending on certain countries where justice systems are flawed. Taking them out whilst they're in an act with a child (no justification) is doing the world a favor. Unlike this killer who has killed innocent ppl (by "accident").
