Interview with Author, David Johnson 

I was active in Australian Yearly Meeting in 1973-4. Listening to you, fifty years later, I feel I am experiencing again what free-range organic Quakerism sounds like in its natural habitat.

Here is my own "elevator speech" when someone asks me "What Quakers are all about?" -- It's not about me, it's not about thee, it's all about "we". How do we live together peacefully while respecting differences? The spirit of love and truth guides us. This generally works quite well I've found :) If they ask for further information, I hit them with the British Advice #1, which is my all-time favourite -- no need to fear "darkness" in our lives. Amazing transformational powers abound everywhere! -- Take heed, dear Friends, to the promptings of love and truth in your hearts. Trust them as the leadings of God whose Light shows us our darkness and brings us to new life. (agree with David Johnson about the word "religion", unfortunately a much maligned concept -- it's actually all about bonding with others, not "following" people, creeds or texts -- love the light, indeed!)
