RIM made the big mistake of not eliminating the keyboard to incorporate Android with their encrypted technology. Their CPU and OS combination were horrifically slow. I remember setting up these devices for people and the amount of time it took to reboot one or 50 of them was just such a huge undertaking. They were just like Novell and thought they could take over the world. Jim should have made friends with Steve Jobs and got some tips from him!!!
Your comment is truly offensive to intelligent people. This was all happening when the technologies did in fact NOT exist and/or were in stages of development .....20, 25 years ago! Your comment has the advantage of today's technology and knowledge of the past. Try to show just a little bit of intelligence. .
@@taxicamelWRONG. Jim was a visionary. Part of being successful is having a gift of understanding today’s tech and what today’s tech will look like tomorrow. Apple was the “tomorrow” of tech as was android. Jim had a chance to utilize the one thing that made blackberry strong…..its ownership and its name. Both worth more than the plastic device itself. A good CEO would stick to the game plan. Jim didn’t. He was too interested in being a high rolling CEO and a transition to owning a NHL team. Quite simply, the wolf at the top of the mountain is never as hungry as the wolf climbing up the mountain. Their R&D took a shit and Steve Jobs reinvented the market. Game over!
@dc619 At its launch, the Playbook required the user to own a Blackberry to have any type of functionality close to that of the iPad 1 or 2. "Apple Sheep" don't usually own a Blackberry, thus limiting the Playbook's sales exposure in the overall market. You should ask yourself whether the people you deem "Apple Sheep" were that way before or after they purchased an iPad or iPhone. The last Mac I owned was the Mac Plus back in 1988. I did not become one of the "Apple Sheep" until the iPhone.
November 2023 ....the movie came out, not painting a very pretty picture of Basillie. A recent interview with Basillie and the author of the Blackberry book, ....the delicate questioning of the accuracy of the movie with people preferring to be "polite on camera", very strongly suggests the movie, obviously hyped up to be entertaining, may not have been far off track. Mike Lazaridis was obviously invited to this interview, but did not even respond to the invite. This factor alone is indeed very telling of what it was really like "in the day". .
Canadian version of STEVE JOBS... Was looking to loathe the "BLACKBERRY" movie, but I ended up loving it... I rarely watch any Canadian Crap, but the main actors like "Glenn HOWERTON", Jay Baruchel & Michael Ironside impressed me .😁👍🏻
hahahaha. This comment is hilarious today. I looked it, and immediately looked at the date it was posted. 4 years ago seems about right for anyone crazy enough to say "RIM will take over the world." Hahahaha. You're hilarious man.
Hey Jim, If you're going to move the Coyotes out of Phoenix. Don't move them to Southern Ontario. That's Leaf and Sabre Territory. Move them back to Winnipeg. BRING BACK THE JETS!!!!!
Yeah, the NHL actually blocked his most recent attempt to buy an NHL team. Also, who still uses blackberrys? It's like those things don't exist anymore
He come across as arrogant given the events of the past 3 years. He SHOULD have been thinking about growing RIM beyond the Blackberry, but he just laughed that suggestion off. Are ya laugh'n now Jimmy? Especially when your Playbook looks like a joke with its need to be tethered to a Blackberry become fully functional.
Listening to this guy dodging questions is hilariously annoying. “Would you prefer a hockey team in Canada?” Just say, “sure. If that’s a possibility. Though I’d be thrilled other locations as well.” It’s not that complicated lol.
likewise for the "Sixty Six...billion dollars" and the comment about all the zeros. Today, you can change that to 66 billion dimes. hahahaha. This is like watching a show on cutting edge Betamax or VHS
