The bid about bernal was accurate. Slower and higher the climb, the more that guy shines. Just a pity he's on INEOS or he'd be he consensus best rider to support.
It wasn't the Bernal part that was important, it was about the type of climb and race. His point is that on a narrow, cobbled, 90 second hill positioning is so much more important than on a 20-30 minute mountain. Start the Paterberg too far back, and you're on the bad end of a split peloton, even if you are Sagan, van Avermaet or Terpstra. Start the Stelvio at the back of the peloton, but it's so long that whoever is the best climber will finish it first, be it Bernal, Pinot, Landa or whoever.
@@andrew7taylor but he didn't name anyone else. He knows TT up the stelvio, bernal beats everyone. Bernal is just that strong. Sigh this might be a boring decade for the Tour.
@@9034833838 His point, again, wasn't the specific rider, but the situation and the type of race. Try to understand the surrounding sentences too, don't just pick out 1 name. In the classics, the climbs are so short and steep that you can't move up on them and if you start them at the back of the group, you're stuck there and probably lost the race solely due to positioning which takes a lot of experience. But the mountains in Grand Tours take so much time that positioning is slightly less imprtant. The best climbers will end up in the front even if they start mid-pack. Oh yeah, and Bernal is just so much stronger than anyone else, he put minutes into everybody on the La Planche des Belles Filles, Tourmalet and Prat d'Albis too, didn't he? So boring, he donned the maillot jaune from the first day and it wasn't decided on the last weekend?
@@andrew7taylor Bernal knew the tour had so many kilometer above 2000m, why even bother showing up before? Absolutely dropped the hammer on Iseran and continued through Val Thorens.
