What a stupid comment. There was nobody playing guitar the way he did then, and there's nobody doing it now. His style is his own, and you hear it in every single thing John Frusciante ever did. But he's just a knock off generic version of the real innovator, Hillel.

First you say, "there was nobody playing guitar the way he did then, and there's nobody doing it now." Then you go on to say that, "you hear it in every single thing John Frusciante ever did." So which one is it? I never said he was a bad player. I never compared him to John Frusciante. I just think he has a limited range. There's nothing he did that wasn't done before, in terms of technique. What was unique about him was how he meshed with the rest of the RHCP. That had a freshness to it at the time, but I promise you, I could easily pick him out of a blind line up by just listening to him perform, in the same way I could hear BB King, or Buddy Guy, or Stevie Ray Vaughan, or Jimi Hendrix, and instantly know it's them, based on their style.
