This almost convinces me to buy one. I've heard no stringers, but its monocoque, so probably far better.

Lets look at some facts. this Extract is from the Haines Signature waranty *Any boat manufactured using the optional Thermo-lite Board in place of the standard ply in the build will be subject to a 5+2 year warranty (5 year structural, 2 year parts). Note Ply gets 10 plus 2. So it seems they are convinced ply is a better product.

I wont buy anything but a Haines Boat. John Haines Snr was a legend who know what he was doing and his boys have continued in his legacy

cant believe a boat builder in this day is still using ply why not use thermalite and build a quality boat that someone wont have to rebuild in 5 years!

Ben campbell watch from 4.30 I am not aware of any Haines Signature with Roo Ply ever having any warranty claim. That’s why it’s used, it’s tried and tested, it’s the best product available for the job. Thermalite is available, it’s used in other parts in the boat where it’s the best product for that job. Your claim of 5 year life with wood construction is baseless pub talk.

Why would anyone believe that when you have used ply since the beginning and just about every haines needs to be rebuilt due to ply transoms stringers and floors rotting out what is your explanation for the years of poor workmanship

Ben campbell Roo ply was introduced around 2001 and there has been no known issue since. If you watch the video you will hear it’s treatment features eliminating risk of rot or termite damage. Sounds like you comparing boats from 1980 to boats built today. If you want thermalite no problem, but testing shows it doesnt beat roo ply.

My mate has a seafarer built in 2012, heap of bulkheads and a stringer completely rotten, inside of your 10year hull warranty and you still knocked back the warranty because he wasn’t the original owner and didn’t pay to get it transferred? Horrible workmanship and after sales service if you ask me

My brothers 650f 2007 floor is totally rotted out ! dreadful build quality would you like to see some photos ??? Of your so called Roo Ply that doesn't rot??

Very interested in this type of feedback. All the boat reviews in Australia are done by paid promoters and salesman. So honest reviews are few and far between. I think completely wood free is the way to go. You should post a vid so others can see, always researching new boats.

@@bobbuilder5362 From the research I did before purchasing an older Signature, I couldn't find anyone who actually owned one with an issue. Plenty of people on forums and things saying 'yeah, I knew a guy and his rotted' (for any boat brand) but no first hand cases... Perhaps that's just because people don't want it known that something they want to sell in the future had an issue? Anyhow, I ended up buying a 1998 540F because it offered what I wanted in a boat at a sensible price point and it was no more likely to have issues than anything else of a similar vintage. The transom, floor and stringers are all solid but the timber in the bow sprit is mush (wet rot) and one of the internal shelves has dry rot. From what I can see both are as result of poor sealing, of the bow sprit hardware and end grain of the shelf respectively. My 2 cents is that most rotted boats are down to people not caring for them though. I can definitely see ways water can get to the stringers and transom in my boat. If I were to empty the kill tank into the underfloor area without opening the rear bung and tilting the trailer right up as well, that water would sit in against keel stringer and transom. Same if it got hosed out or left in the rain with an internal bung open time and time again for 10+ years. Then you have the issue of people drilling holes to add things and not truly sealing them... No doubt it would be possible to build a boat that didn't rot but I also think it is a case of being aware of possible ingress points and treating them accordingly. Plenty of people do just that, and that's why there are many 20-40 year old boats running around without having being rebuilt - I'd be amazed if mine wasn't still good by its 30th birthday!
