Judy Cornwell is a brilliant actress. Even though I've seen the series "Keeping Up Appearances" over-and-over, I still watch it.

Judy Cornwell is so generous with her input and praise of other actors. Her critiques of certain styles of writing are spot on.

Judy Cornwell and Geoffrey Hughs made me laugh on "Keeping Up Appearances." Daisy and Onslow did it for me.

I absolutely loved this show. Seldom does one get to see a show in which all of the actors are individually funny as well as funny in group settings. I live in America and I find that British comedy is so much better than ours because it reminds me of a time when comedy was funny, not raunchy. Because of this show, I started to look for other British comedies and I found that there were quite a few, like The Black Adder, Fawlty Towers, As Time Goes By, Are You Being Served and several others, but Keeping Up Appearances is my absolute favorite, so much so that I purchased the entire series on DVD. What a great show.

Judy’s character on Keeping Up is a character like no other, and she does it brilliantly! Oh, they are ALL brilliant. Without brilliant writing, there’s nothing to watch between commercials. Buy the DVD set! Brilliant, I tell you.

There was scene where Daisy is reading a romance novel, Onslow says "why d'ya keep read'n stuff like that?" Daisy: Because it's me last foothold in romance, I get very little practice, so I can a least keep abreast of theory"

I remember Judy Cornwall in Moody and Pegg from the 70’s. I must have enjoyed it as I remember it so well !! Maybe it’ll resurface on Talking Pictures ☺️

you are so right on the scripts they make today i have said it so many times all they know how to do is put swearing in instead of coming up with a good shows which i don't watch at all.i love all the older shows they have a great script and no swearing,and most of all class and also i love british shows most of all they are so funny without swearing ,i just love this interview with you .you were my favorite person on your show

Judy speaks FACTS!!!! The classics are the best. Modern comedies if you could call them that simply can't compare. Vulgarity, sweating and nudity doesn't equal talent.

I totally agree. Writers don't know how to do great scripts without swearing.. look at golden girls and frazier.i always watch keeping up appearances and as time goes by. Very little is funny on u s tv today. I watch very little tv now.

Agree totally....little talent today when it comes to genuine comedy, most is crude and poorly written. Traditional British comedy has always been tasteful and never vulgar, funny with out being crude and written with intelligence, same for older American comedy shows also with greats like Carol Burnett, etc. Today's stuff is rubbish so we don't watch any of it, give me the old stuff any day!

I wish KUA was on here where I live. I don’t know if it’s on anywhere in the states. I loved this show, Are You Being Served, Doc, Reggie Perrin, and so many more britcoms. We have Britbox here in the US now, and I will be subscribing to it.

that scene when Judy Cornwell and Geoffrey Hughes were in bed together and Onslow was talking about Daisy being a Liverpool supporter, that scene just killed me hahaha! Onslow was so offended lol. Being a Liverpool supporter myself I just loved that scene

Bit of trivia: I forget the name of the film, offhand, but a young Judy Cornwell plays girlfriend to Fabian (the 60s singing heartthrob/wannabe actor) in a movie where Fabian is an up and coming race car driver. Yes, at the start of her career, Ms Cornwell played "ingenue" parts. BTW, not really sure Hyacinth was the brainy sister, she was just the one who had ideas about how she thought HER world should function. Some of her ideas were somewhat daft. And Daisy and Rose? I have sisters like them, well, Hyacinth too, I suppose. But Daisy is our favorite. And Rose? We put up with her quirks. Hyacinth? We often wonder if she was adopted.

I miss the show on Saturday evenings I would try to act. Out on the p hone when my Friend would call, (I have caller Id),so I would go into the act, "Bucket residence man of the house speaking.

I agree with her too. Personally, I blame the lack of decent scripts on nepotism. Some crude idiot with no talent - but whose dad or uncle has the power to get him hired - gets a job writing, and all of the "yes-men" in the system tell him and his influential relatives how "brilliant" he is. Then other people imitate his "style" hoping to sell their stuff to the same market, and the standard drops like a rock. It's a shame.

I agree with Judy Cornell. Too much swearing in modern comedy. For the most part swear words have replaced decent scriptwriting. Throw in a swear word and we're expected to find it hysterical. And yes modern comedy is aggressive and cruel. This trend started with the young ones and has become progressively worse over the years as swearing has been added to the mix. The office was one of the first to include the f word - only one for dramatic effect but in some cases (like man down) it's used so frequently it spoils an otherwise good sitcom. Ironically older comedies are seen as aggressive and cruel because in many cases there were elements of sexism racism and/or homophobia but that in itself did not make them aggressive and cruel. Modern comedy congratulates itself for being politically correct but is often aggressive and cruel in other ways. Gareth in the office was the figure of fun for the supposed heroes of the show (Tim and dawn) and no matter how much sentiment was added about their relationship the fact remains they still treated Gareth appallingly. This sort of scriptwriting is the template for the generation who are now making comedy so small wonder comedy is aggressive, cruel and packed with expletives

so true that profanity is an indicator of bad writing. wish Hollywood would get that message so we can safely return to the cinema. last three movies I've gone to, I've asked for my money back and rec'd it. good scripts are full of ideas and concepts and talent...that's worth watching!
