Interview with Lachlan Morton after the Kokopelli Trail

I'm also a part of the Lachlan fan club. It's inspiring how he's managed to turn his cycling passions into his competitive advantage for the team and for sponsors. In the beginning of the interview, he talks about how you're in a world tour race to "do a job," either working for someone else or trying to win. His "value" to the team and sponsors is no longer relegated to attacking on big climbs in stage races, it's to do epic things on the bike that inspires others to participate in the sport and to engage with entirely different audiences that don't care about the world tour. It also just happens to feed his individual passions. I'd argue that even though he hasn't been riding in the spring classics or grand tours ofr EF, he's as valuable if not more valuable to EF than some of the big names on the roster. Kudos to EF and Rapha for not resigning to some of the tired traditions of road cycling.

A very enjoyable interview! LM is a geat ambassador for cycling; his passion for cycling - not just racing - and exploring new horizons, is genuine.

Revisiting this after he just beat the Peloton to France on his alt tour… Dude is an absolute stud! I think another interview is due Neil! 😜

Such a good interview, Neil and Lachlan. It’s really cool to see Lachlan getting into the sport of bikepacking, and past road-riders, in my opinion, have every right to try their hand at bikepacking events. As Lachlan said himself, it is a totally different experience riding out in the middle of nowhere, self-supported, no massages, and potentially riding 20 hours a day. Kudos to your accomplishments on the CT and Kokepelli, and hopefully I get to see you out there for the TD2021!
