This is an archival interview of Amir Khan. This was found in my family's personal collection, and I have no information regarding where or when it was recorded.
Its a very Frank interview of Khan Saheb , about what he believes in and what he feels very strongly. I read some comments down below and ppl are bashing Khan saheb and interviewer. People now have been used to very polished and diplomatic answers to tailor-made questions by interviewers. Artistes of those times were not so shrewd and media savvy and spoke their heart and this is a milestone conversation which reflects the divide between HINDU & MUSLIM artistes , ki ye Vidya kiski hai. Tab ke Artistes bahut qitabi nhi hote the , maukhik gyan pe bolte the. isliye cheezein factual nhi kehte the - like Amir khusro 600 saal pehle the ... Jabki woh 1000 years pehle the. Abhi ke artistes ne Congressia paath padh liya isiliye sab Bhai Bhai hai chalta rha. Par sach ka Niraakaran kaun Karega. Bharat me jo bhi achhi race thi ,achha genes tha usko to choti pakad pakad ke hukmranon me musalman bana diya. Ab DNA wohi hai par mat alag aur Aastha alag . Isliye Body wohi hai par Indian society sounds like a person of SPLIT Personality. Khair Iss Desh mein Gandhi Nehru jaise Gaddaron ne jo Gandh machai hai woh hum soonghte hi rahenge. Aur peechhle hazaar saal me musalmaan hamare zindagi aur culture me aise ghul mil gaye Hain . Ki kya Hamara hai aur kya musalmanon ka ye kehna asambhav lagta hai. Ram Janmbhoomi prove karke shuruat to ho gayi hai , dekhte hain kahan kahan doodh aur paani alag kar paate Hain. Par ye hai to HINDUON ki hi Vidya hai , with all due respect to the Son of this soil Khan Saheb. Jai BHARAT👍
Obviously... Hindu culture and way of life put music at the highest point... it's considered as the shortest way to reach paramatma ...or rhi baat hindu muslim ko to ham sab jante h ki kaise ramtanu pandey miyan tansen bn gye...or usk baad unk bcho n aage chlkr kafi raag bnaye or khyal k gharane bhi bnaye..or iska sabse bda example h a ustad alladiya khan swami Haridas k vashanj the...or ustad vilayat khan bhi khud hindu ancestry se hi btate the..aise numerous examples h...or khan sahab jis book ki baat kr rhe h uska naam Sangeetratnakar h jo sarangdev n likhi h takriban 1200 k aaspaas..jo aajtak ka Indian music m likha sabse bda text h ....usme 52 trh ki to veena mention ki h...or usi m se ek veena ka naam h Vichitra veena jisse sitar bni h...
This interview was conducted by Nazir Jairazbhoy, around 1963 IIRC. All these years it was locked up in a few select archives. Great to know it's finally hit the public domain. NB: It seems to be edited quite a bit.
Yes , looks like edited . I found the interviewer very softspoken, sensitive and simple fellow. The unedited version would be full of explosives of the Chasm between Hindu & Muslims in India.
The veena is among the oldest of Indian musical instruments. From the references to Vedic writings, it can date back to around the first millennium B.C. Temple sculptures from the 2nd century B.C. show a type of veena being played. The Saraswati veena is the predominant Carnatic music and the Rudra veena the most played veena in Hindustani music. The Saraswati veena has seven strings strung over twenty four fixed frets. It has a large resonator (kudam), a tapering hollow neck (dandi) and a tuning box that curves downwards (yali). Realy feeling sad for all legends who really never studied history but forwarded what there ancestors said ...now with the help of science we can calculate age of our cultural heritage and sculpture so basically music is within us ...they came they tried to change our system moulded our mind according to them ..
No person can claim that he knows everything. Hence when we do not know some thing it is better to say we do not know. We need not be ashamed about it.
Here are my edited comments. The documentary mentioned in the interview was for different purpose and interview had different purpose. I apologize for mixing the two. However, I wish to mention that Munni Begum played an outstanding role in shaping the personality of Ustadji. Behind every successful man there is a woman and that was Munni Begum. She had a difficult time at the end for which my sympathies to her. Gurbir Singh
No, here Khansahib is talking about Rosetta Renshaw, a researcher on Indian Classical Music, not about Raisa Begum (Khansahib's 3rd and last wife). Also the son Amir Khansahib is talking about is Ikram Ahmed - his eldest son with his first wife Munni Begum - who migrated to Canada in the 1960s and was probably helped by Ms Renshaw.
Thanks Pulak Gupta for the reply. My comments were dependent on the documentary mostly. Son shown in the documentary was Shahbaz Khan whereas I was presuming to be Ikram . The confusion arises when the documentary was made in 1970 and biography depicted was of the time around 1955 when Khan Saheb used to go to India Hotel and getting water while sitting in the train. This was the reason I misunderstood the role of Munni Bai and Raisa Begum. Thanks again for helping me remove the confusion --Gurbir Singh
People should understand that "history" will always be biased...it is a pity here that everyone is talking about "who brought khayal" - was it "musalman" or "hindu" - guys..move on from religion and get a life... enjoy the music -
i love and respect ustadji at the highest level due to his capacity to sing in lowest scale with clearly with ati vilambit tempo and to sing notation in two scale at a time. all notes in a scale are with flexible range according to ragas need and if amir khushro start sa with first shruti means re will start with fifth shruti so it is changing nothing in theory of bharat muny according to him sa is from fourth shruti and re is from respectively shruti is one and the same and can't change all or any raga from it's original form. all world is using natural scale of sound created by law of energy and frequency is the proof that amir khushro has changed nothing in natural scale of musical sound, is my humble opinion .
Any music lovers before learning music or along with the music learning process should know the true history of classical music. It seems there are some religious propaganda that some of the great musicians of history did not want to bring the Muslim names infront of public.
@@Skhatik2001 bro he started...I just replied..because it's cheap mentality to bring other artist just to compare in the comment section of the video about Ustad Amir Khan.
