WWW.SHELETTA.COM Sheletta Brundidge, host of Crossroads, interviews legendary Supreme Mary Wilson. Watch Crossroads each Sunday morning at 7:30 on KSTC-TV in the Twin Cities.
Regardless of what some fan wants to say, Mary Wilson was there in the beginning and that is a fact and can't nobody take that away from her. When we saw The Supremes on TV, we saw all the three girls. It wasn't until 1967 when the name changed that Diana got TOP status. Then we realised things were really changing for the group. Mary and Flo were and are just as important.
Mary is a wonderful person. She truly is a survivor. I am really excited about her upcoming show here in Toronto. I emailed her and she emailed me back kind response. She is "CONFRONTED BY FEW, BUT STOPPED BY NONE!"
What a Legend in Class,, Style,, Rock n Roll Pop music & TALENT.. She gives the BEST concerts.. She can do no wrong with what she represents,, An American Treasure..
@ Lynn Bacon, I've been a fan of THE SUPREMES since the 1960's, have loved them, supported them and patronize them in every incarnation! After Florence Ballard's "ousting and replacing" in 1966/67 Diane & Berry turned the group into The Diane Ross Show to pave the way for her 1969 "solo career" For me the pinnacle of artistry, diversity, harmonic and melodious sound was the Mary Wilson, Cindy Birdsong & Jean Terrell lineup of the early 1970's! Good greetings Diane Ross!
Great interview! For the first time I feel as if Wilson is comfortable with being herself, and what she is doing AND what she has done, rather than coming across as angry and bitter. If any of you have the opportunity to see her "Upclose" show, do so! Its pretty good!
MS.MARY WILSON today enjoys the privilege of being known as "THE QUINTESSENTIAL SUPREME" as the only group member to have been in the groups official lineup from 1959 to 1977, longer than any other member! Today she continues her career as a JAZZ/ ROCK/R&B performer whose unsurpassed talent and versatility is hard to match! She's "APPOINTED" by The United States Government as 1 of 10 Cultural Ambassadors that represents our arts abroad also a loving mother & grandmother! MARY, YOU'RE SUPREME!
MS MARY WILSON in 2014 remains 1 of 3 "ORIGINAL FOUNDING MEMBERS" of the still # 1 FEMALE GROUP of all times "THE SUPREMES" (Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson & Diane Ross) and because her tenure with the group 1959/1977, the only one from creation to disbandment, undivided representation and curator of the female trio's memorabilia, makes her today their LIVING LEGACY!
For God´s sake Mary is 63 yrs old in this interview. Let the woman be relaxed. she just said she has 8 grandchildren. Mary is wonderful and she is doing great things. God bless her.
Man, all this hate up in this piece! I met Mary, and not only was she phyne, but she was very sweet and down to earth. She wasn't wearing stage makeup, clothes or hair. She was dressed casually stylish. In fact, she was absolutely stunning! For her to be such a hated woman, she still gets a lot of attention from her hatred. IJS
Mary Wilson still beautiful passionately I was in sudden shock to hear that she was the first contestant to be booted from Dancing With The Stars that show sucks don't even watch it at all
The Clark Sisters are incredible! I love them all. Twinkie is a genius. Dorinda is a awesome evanglist. Jacky is a sweet heart and Karen is always on fire for Jesus!
Mary Wilson is very popular in the UK as a single artist and radio presenter and will be touring here as part of a massive Motown spectaular for their 50th Anniversary. I just wish there could be the biggest ever comeback tour! The Supremes with Mary, Diana and well I'll say no more! It would blow everyone else out of the sky! Esp if there was a section dedicated to Florence! God Bless you all from the United Kingdom! And may God Bless your nes President!
The Supremes, Diana Ross and The Supremes, and Diana Ross are all legends. I don't understand all the negativity and jealous that some on this age are generating.
Mary Wilson has always been a gracious, eloquent, and accurate historian for the Supremes. The only negative comment I can make about Mary Wilson is how sad it was that Florence Ballard was thrown out of the group, along with Mary Wilson’s vote, and Florence did not sing at the command performance in England. Mary Wilson should’ve mentioned that, and the regret that she should’ve felt that Florence got the Supremes to their height - and for an imposter to stand in for Florence before the royal family, what an injustice!
@@triadafillos1You should spell her name correctly, because without Diana Ross, the Supremes would never have been as successful. Remember! There were other lead singers, but none of these singers were able to lead the group to number one songs. Only with Diana Ross, did the group have number one songs. In fact 12, in 5 years...1964 - 1969. Don't you think that she deserves the respect from you and everyone who are a fan of the Supremes or Diana Ross and The Supremes, to spell her name correctly! She earned her respect. Without her, they would not have been a world wide phenomenon. Her name is Diana Ross. Therefore respect her. She has earned it.
MS MARY WILSON is not only 1 of 3 ORIGINAL FOUNDING MEMBERS (Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson & the runt of the litter Diane Ross) of the still # 1 FEMALE GROUP of all times THE SUPREMES, in 2015 THE LIVING LEGACY of that accomplished trio!
+TWTR4EVER - Gurl Myrna Williams name should be the last on that list since her role as a Supreme was so small, If you would have had your sex change back then you could have taken Myrna place, With some heavy makeup and a veil to cover your hideous face
+TWTR4EVER - Your husband Barry Williams wears the pants and high tops and you his wife wear the dresses and low heel shoes and the garish wigs and makeup. Did Barry Wilson marry you in Florida? You have got to be the world oldest bride lol
Yes, it was a dream come true. Some people just hit the jackpot, others don't. I'm happy for Wilson. But saddened over the death of her son. Maybe she'll cover it later -- I stopped the video to post this comment -- but here's hoping she and Ross are once again "back in each other's arms again." Life's much too short for long grudges and feuds. It's just not worth it.
Mary is traveling around the world with The Supremes Costumes Collection, in museums and art venues, she also performs her cabaret act in which she sings a variety of ballads and standards that have been very well received by the local critics everywhere she's been, have you read the critics about Diana Ross latest concerts? People like you go to see her, then again they will go to the opening of an envelope!
+aiswarya83 Oh please, even a cheap dress from TJMaxx and high heel shoes from Shoe Pavilion would look better than how she looks here. She looks embarrassing and is embarrassing the Supremes legacy as usual.
Mary 1967 the Happening, hot ### gorgeous. Mary got lead spot on Ed Sullivan that night. Her woo hoos were dynamite. Can truly say she was the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen that night.
Mary's been asked to do a movie... The life of a bag lady... she already has the shoes! ROLMFAOFF! Such a Diva such a Star, now why didn't she go places?
The Supremes actually had 12 #1 singles in the 60s. They didn't actually tie the Beatles for #1singles, though, as The Beatles had 21 #1 singles. What the Supremes DID DO that surpassed the Beatles was having 5 (five) #1 CONSECUTIVE singles, which even the Beatles never matched. That record stood for 22 years until Whitney Houston had 7 #1 CONSECUTIVE single, which is now the record for consecutive #1 records. That notwithstanding, the Supremes remain the top female GROUP, given that no other female singing group has come close to 12 #1 singles since Billboard began charting records. Rather astonishing it hasn't been broken yet.
@@lindamaddox815 Perhaps they've sold more ALBUMS, because there are more people on the planet now (325 million vs. 180 million in the '60s) than there were then. Hence, more albums sold. But as far as #1 songs? Sorry, but neither The Dixie Chicks or The Spice Girls have even come close. The Dixie Chicks, as good as they are, have never had a #1 POP single, although they've hit the top of the Country & Western Charts several times (but not close to the 12 #1 songs by the Supremes). The Spice Girls have had one (1) #1 song, but perhaps in other areas (sold out performances), they might have.
@robinquinc329 Hell, look around RU-vid or go to Google books and look through the Jet Magazine archives for career information on Mary Wilson. She has had and is still having a great solo career. In fact, name even 5 popular female artists from the sixties (from Motown or otherwise) that are still performing on the level of Mary Wilson!
I read her book, Drreamgirl. Berry Gordy, in his zeal to promote Diana's career, systematically undermined the confidence of Mary and Flo by constantly saying they 'couldn't sing'. Shameful. In his book, he admitted that he was obsessed with Diana.
For the record, I didn't write the above comment. I agree, though that Mary will say ANYTHING to further her story at any given moment. I saw Marys Up Close show and agree it is what she does best. She should keep doing it and leave The Supremes songs to Miss Ross who knocked 6 full length Supremes songs outta da park last week in Ft Lauderdale. She looks and sounds better than ever!
I've been working extra trips to pile hours for my summer vacations! Whenever you spot a site that needs attention send it to me so I can attend to it ASAP!
no matter how good Ross is, theres simply no denying that Ross comes over as a control freak and a goldigger. I bet Flo would be so proud of her to tell the story and the truth. I wander if Miss Ross will ever have the decency to say sorry
it's funny all these blacks attacking Mary and saying she had no talent etc. i'm white and think Mary was great and really have a tremendous respect both for her and for her many accomplishments. so who are the racists?
As a fan of The Supremes, I think Mary should continue doing the jazz and pop clubs and venues....leaving the old Sups songs behind....let Diana do that,,,,Mary can become better known if she'd focus on my advice....'
I love all three of them. Hard to takes sides because I wasn't there. I just know that they were great together. Diana was good solo but never great without the Mary and Flo. What ever happened we will never know the truth. I think Gordy manipulated Diana by daggling the carrot of stardom at her first. she jumped and the others didn't like the way things were being handled. Florence Ballard was mad sexy. I love to watch her dance.
+Ron Rossmore . It is strange how people like you think Berry had nothing to do with what you saw happening to the 60's Supremes. Berry had an agenda and it was his record company, you silly man.
I think Mary is the most intelligent and the best looking of the three, although all three were beautiful and talented in their own right. Ken, Toronto
@DetroitLives313 Ha ha ha. Don't make me laugh. Mary and Diana play the same venues, and not only that Mary sells out. Hilarious! You really got me on that one. You are a great kidder.
Oh my! You all must be young or something. Diana is one of the best, even at her age. Of course, she's been around all my life- yeah, I'm at least as old as she has been performing. Of course, with all due respect to Mary, she is good in her own right too. They are timeless respected role models and no I'm not Black. I'm not referring to that, but them as people, as women, for a whole generation.
Man, some of the comments here are pretty personal and vindictive. I mean, maybe Mary pissed in your lemonade, but . . . . She looks pretty good for a lady in her 70's. I hope my wife's looks hold up like hers has. On top of that, the woman is a superstar, and has kept a successful career going for over 50 yrs. So it must be personal, because businesswise, this woman can't be touched.
Foster Mac, you're witnessing the array of Diane Ross RU-vid critters like sammy7819, Glen Jones, Ron Rossmore, thewizboy, Michelle Steven, CookieWiliams, JAZZZSCHERZO, ParaFacSub, OnLineAdministrator1, TheReturnOfStephan1 and others that keep on re-inventing themselves, under new RU-vid names to go from video to video, trying to tarnish and destroy MS MARY WILSON! Primarily because she's a founding member and today as she keeps THE SUPREMES legacy alive, legacy Diane Ross wanted dead and buried in 1967, imagine in 2014? It was always Diane Ross & Berry Gordy's plan on to diminish and belittle both Florence Ballard, who got ousted and removed first, then Mary Wilson, who new the inevitable from the powers to be (Berry & Diane) and was told she couldn't sing, over and over to strip off all self confidence to be kept submissive! As she played along, keeping her dream alive, hopping once Diane went solo, THE SUPREMES will have a second chance, she saw it through! They were sabotaged from day one, (1970) turned into a slow death while Diane Ross was emerging into what Berry was creating for themselves, (Lady Sings The Blues, Mahogany, The Wiz) Berry Gordy a Hollywood film mogul and Diane Ross a movie star! All at the expense of THE SUPREMES & MOTOWN!
Son I'm to old to play those type of games. I've been chasing women for better than 45 yrs. Trust me, I know when a person looks good. I stand behind what I said earlier. The woman is attractive, she can sing, and she managed to carve a career that enabled her to have a financially successful life. For all of those who want to call this woman names, here is an OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: ALL WOMEN (WHO CAN) WANTS TO HAVE SEX. THEY WANT IT FROM PEOPLE THEY ARE ATTRACTED TO. THIS INCLUDES YOUR MOTHERS, SISTERS, NIECES, GODDAUGHTERS, GRANDDAUGHTERS. WHEN IN THE THROES OF ECSTACY THEY ARE FULFILLED IN SAME SENSE AS A COMMON STREET WHORE. So stop with the name calling. This woman is no more or no less a respectable woman as any other woman. Got it?
I think Mary (tried to) sing lead on TOUCH. And she sang a part in FLOY JOY. I know, I know...mistakes. But Smokey (Robinson) has a good heart. But her only Motown solo release of any consequence (none) was RED HOT. Beleive it or not, I actually heard it on the radio once. And that was it--once--in 1979.
Boys and girls, listen up: Mary Wilson has it all, and the best of it is she has some humility and believes in God. Now, Diana was the 'pushiest' and she was also Berry's squeeze, so she got 'pushed'...Flo and Mary, while they still did very well, got pushed to the side...Poor Flo wasn't strong enough to handle the manipulation and manage her money. This said, the Supremes and all the Motown artists were 'toppermost of the poppermost'. But, you really had to have been there.
Paul McCartney's then wife Heather dealt with the land mind issue as well. Heather had an artificial leg but I don't know if a land mine destroyed part of her leg or if it was something else. Someone know?
+CookieWilliams after all those years of having to wear uncomfortable shoes for showbusiness , she has the right to wear whatever the heck she is comfortable in. I wasn't mocking her .
Tim Mullens- You don't need to make any excuses for Mary to me, She can't afford to keep up the look. I wouldn't leave my house looking like that and I wasn't a famous entertainer
Big Black Bare,I have followed The Supremes since 1964 and Where Did Our Love Go.Without any one of these girls you don't have The Supremes.Florence Ballard,Mary Wilson, and Diana Ross.If anything it was Diane who used people to get on her own especially the boss Berry Gordy. He also used her and made the entire Motown industry push Diane to the top.Whitout Florence you would never heard of The Supremes or Diana Ross.
@robinquinc329 What I want to know from you is WTF does this video interview of Mary Wilson has to do with Diana Ross and vice-versa? It seems like to me that you and some others just want to keep shit going by continually coming to watch Mary but wishing you were watching Diane! Damn!
Spare us the negative comments. Try absorbing bits of pieces of history you might not otherwise know about. This is not directed to anyone in particular...
