We speak to Janie Dee, Zizi Strallen, Philip Quast and Adam Rhys-Charles about Stephen Sondheim's Follies, currently running at the National Theatre, London.
Some interesting insights into the thinking behind this terrific production. It has a magnificent cast, orchestra and set. I think Philip Quast is right to say we are unlikely to see Follies on this scale again.
An amazing production and worth the 5* reviews. Just shows you how age is only a number when you see these performances!Imelda Staunton was a revelation! Tracie Bennett was worth the price of the ticket alone!Top stars in a top show!
I'm obsessed with Follies and will see any production I can. The National's version wouldn't even rate in my top ten. And Imelda Staunton is easily the worst Sally I've seen.
Yeah, they even get various details wrong. The script says the theatre is being turned into a parking lot, not an office block. And you wouldn't really describe the Follies as dance shows. They were both not quite and more than that.
