The data has NOT tell us that DV is going "backwards." This is misleading with statistics. The number of DV incidents naturally fluctuates from year to year. Just because last year has seen more incidents than the year before doesn't mean the situation had got worse. You must also show that the degree of increase is statistically significant, i.e., greater than the mere effect of chance. Usually, this is done through statistical inference--tools like t-test, confidence intervals, time series, etc. So far, we've seen no report of such statistical testing. The only number we've seen is the "28% increase." That may sound alarming on its face, but we must consider the context. For example, if we had 12 shark attacks last year, and 15 shark attacks this year, that would be a 28% increase. But would that mean "shark attacks are getting worse"? No. A big increase in percentage is not uncommon when the base number is small. For a rare event, mere random fluctuations can create a large change in percentage. Here, because the incidence of DV in Australia is already very low (compared to other violent offenses, and compared to DV in other countries), a 28% increase may not be anything more than pure chance. It can very well go back down next year without the government taking any extra action. By the way , consider the absurdity of trying to "eliminate DV." Is it really possible to eliminate a crime entirely? Do you think the government can eliminate all murders and assaults? Does that sound like a realistic goal or just a political slogan? If you look at a graph of DV number by year, you'll see a steady decline throughout the last 3 decades. Australia is doing just fine in preventing DV. It is one of the safest countries for women in the world.

I saw a chart on Daisy Cousins YT video that shows DV is at an all time low since 1990.

@@ShadowMan66Exactly. I think the chart I saw was on The Guardian. The government programs seem to be working. To be sure, if the numbers continue to rise over the next few years, it can be a cause of concern, but right now the general trend still looks like it's going downward.

@@deleted01 The numbers had already come down over 30 years, not due to the actions of either government. Labor are abusing the DV stats to push an agenda.

Most man will treat their wife/ partner/ girlfriend kindly and lovingly. Its the few who don't that get the attention. Dont generalise as young men are getting such a negative rap. Most good men come from 2 parent families

Paid dv leave was a great idea. Glorify this disgusting behaviour. Incentivise it

She’ll been gone and the next lass will blame her as to why nothing has changed.

People get charged for a being a public nuisance, almost straight away. BRNG DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TO THE CURB. The front door of a home is not an excuse to be used by abusers. We need front doors made of glass otherwise.

Katy is an amazing human being and one of the strongest woman in the parliament. The way she handled herself last June was heroic. If anyone can execute change it is her with leadership.

Good job, Katy. Thanks for asking my question 😉 This did absolutely nothing to endear me to the minister. 🙃
