Not trying to knock on Tom Cruise's performance because he acted the hell out of the role, but Sam Reid as Lestat is brilliant casting. He really encapsulates Lestat's complexities, insecurities, cruelty, and unrelenting love for Louis. If anyone doubted him before, they need to watch the show.

Whoever decided to get Sam as Lestat is forever in my debt. He IS LESTAT. Brilliant performance thoroughly. As a long time fan of the entire Vampire Chronicles, i think Sam had done justice to Anne Rice's vision. It just makes me a bit sad she passed before the show was aired.

I loved this TV series its better than 1994 and I love how Sam Reid was amazing in Interview With A Vampire and I want to see more of this and Sam Reid is in season 2 and I can't wait for Season 2 and I want to see more of Sam in Vampire Lestat Memoch The Devil Queen Of The Dammed and Tale Of The Body Thief. Ok. I thought the trailer for this looked awful but after I saw the positive review by Indiewire, I decided to watch episode one and JESUS FACKING CHRIST! What a treat. So profoundly sexy and engaging. All the actors are delivering tour de force performances and the 1910s setting in New Orleans brilliantly incorporates relevant themes about race, identity, gender and sexuality. Best show on tv right now. The writing is A+ and Sam and Jacob are just dynamite.

This interview gave me a new insight into the character. Lestat craves love and chases it in over-the-top, often destructive ways. Like a lot of vampires, however, he gathers experience and knowledge while still somehow being stuck at the stage of life at which he died. So we've basically got an overpowered, impulsive, immature man who also has a good heart under there, and also too much courage and charisma to be stopped. And since his antics do often seem to succeed in terms of getting the love of his "target," why should he really change?

Lestat needed Louis a lot more than Louis needed him. He is very lonely and yearns for a "family", thus Louis and Claudia. He really needs to be loved. He's a very sad creature. I read the book in 1976 when it first came out and I've loved all of the Vampire Chronicles books. So excited for this series.

Shame Anne Rice died before this show came out. This is the ideal Lestat she always wanted. And I grateful we live in this time of "movie-shows" cause some stories needed to be told more throughly then a single movie can tell them. Having this story in the form of a series vs a movie truly did it justice.

I've seen all 3 interesting portrayals of lestat. All bring a lot of good to the table. But Sam is cannon. IMO Edit. Louis is so well written and well remagined. Jacob's acting is bar none. I can't ever imagine any other lestat or louis since this series.

I just watched Episode 2 and I am enthralled! This fresh take on Louis is so much more meaningful as I watch! Reid IS classic Lestat and he's doing everything I could want from him. I think the clothing in this is a little too subdued but Lestat is always dressed a bit fancier than those around him so the essence is still there. I'm in it for the long haul.

1920s fashions were more downplayed. Part of blending in is taking care to embrace the fashions of the time. The flamboyance of Lestat is in the details however. They cannot override the practical elegance of the early 20th century fashions especially as masculine fashion hadn’t gone through a massive change, it definitely transitioned from the luxury of the 18th century to the more uniform like quality of the 19th century. Lestat lived through the 1800s which had masculine fashion transition into more simplistic. So it’s not like it’s tedious for him.

The questions you asked I have to say were well thought out and very interesting. I am enjoying Interview with the vampire so much. I didn't know how I would feel at first to be honest. But Jacob and Sam were the perfect choices. They act with such precision and emotion that drew me in from their very first lines. Cannot wait to see much more of this series.

I was pretty devastated when Julian Sands wasn't cast as Lestat in the 90s and Tom Cruise got the role. Stuart Townsend was camp but fun as Lestat. However I think Sam Reid makes Lestat seem like a real person, not a caricature. Those cheekbones/jaw are pretty amazing too. I like that he seemed like he was actually French, never felt that in other portrayals. And congrats to a fellow Aussie 🇦🇺 I wish some streaming network would adapt Blood & Gold by Anne Rice. I love the character Marius so much.

Julian Sands also played the poet Shelley in the 1986 film Gothic based on the play 'Bloody Poetry' by Howard Brenton. I can see how there is a visual and genre interconnection and Sands would have been a better choice than Tom Cruise who, as you say, is always himself.

Sam has more source material than did Tom, that and allowing the romance of Lestat and Louis to take center stage leaves me feeling that Tom could never have approached the scenes as authentically as Sam has achieved. Sam is superb!

I love Sam so much. He gives me I-NEED-YOU-TO-KNOW-WHAT-A-COMPLEX-AND-MAGNIFICENT-CHARACTER-LESTAT-IS-AND-I-COULD-INSTRUCT-YOU-ABOUT-IT-THE-WHOLE-DAY-DO-YOU-WANT-TO vibes and I'm living for it. Usually actors get only a script for the season they're recording and maybe some insight from directors. But it's so clear that he knows what he's doing, that he loves doing it and that wants the rest of us love it too... I'm sure that even if Anne wouldn't have love his interpretation (I just know she would), she'd have been super proud bc how invested Sam is with her favorite son

False, Tom Cruise was, and still is, the perfect Lestat, he embodied him, he looked just like I envision Lestast to act and be. Sam's version of Lestat is creepy, not funny, vain to the point I hate him, he seemed like a straight dude that only wanna try out a dude (Louis), he never seduces men, only women, from what I see, where is my BI king? And he isn't funny, rather boring. Where is my funny, dramatic, vain yet charming, a bad guy that you can't help but love, Lestat??? And now it seems he is going to be in a relationship with this new character, Antoinette??? What? It suppose to be a young musician boy, not a woman. At least the movie version was accurate to what Lestat was in the book.

You seem to have a very shallow understanding of the novel, movie and the TV show. Interview with the Vampire is more than a Harlequin romance novel and definitely not Twilight. Remarkable performance, especially the voice and spoken aspects. I did find these vampires demonstrated more pathos that I expect. I don’t see vampires as capable of real love, especially the vulnerability and selflessness that comes with it. Vampires are, I think, carnal, sexual, and egoistic. They are highly narcissistic and sociopathic, intimate, seductive and irresistible, but this is all a ruse to attract prey. I was thrown off to see Lestat truly emotionally raw and suffering with the absence of his companion. If the dead have empathy and emotional bonds, they are nearly human.

I loved the first Interview with the vampire with Brad and Tom Cruise, it was brillant, but this version is off the chart!!! Oh my god its a love story!!! Sam Reid has the most sexiest voice ever for a vampire. I for one would love to have my neck bitten! His relationship with Louie, kept me glued to the tv, because I wanted to just see him and Louie together. I can't wait for part 2!!!!!!

Sam deserves a lot of awards for his work on this show, not many actors can portray a character this good and be so captivating the whole time he’s on screen. I gave it a 10 out of 10 and really hope they continue on with all the other books with him portraying the character

Sam Reids lestat is the best ever ,, the movie is good but the show is great !! cant wait for the second season ,, wish they would do this with more of anne rices works , would love to see an updated queen of the dammed maybe they can work on a tale of the body thief ?? wishful thinking dont mind me .haha

Sam Reid is a fantastic Lestat - love that French accent even though he naturally has that fabulous Aussie accent. I really thought he is the best Lestat I seen. I love the recorded song Come to Me.
