I was genuinely squealing watching the interview back making my chapter description notes like “yessss, go IN on the book lore and characterization Sam!!!”
I get there's a level of ambiguously but most people would consider him strawberry blond, and it must be weird having someone deny you are blond when you've gone through your entire life as a blond man. 🤣
May be irs ubconfortable and an aesthetic. I dobt like long hair in me either, but everybody tells i should let it grow. Short hair gives you a clean look
It shows his absolute dedication to the character because originally Rolin would have done Lestat with short hair but Sam insisted Lestat has long hair. So that's why he used hair pieces until his hair grew.😊
I like that Sam said that Lestat’s rage comes from a toxic abusive masculine place and it makes sense especially when you realize the fight started after he attacked claudia when she said “let’s meet vampires worthy of your love”
We’re so lucky that Lestat is being played by someone who respects and understands the text so deeply. He’s not afraid to stand up for this character and voice his opinion. Like not only is his performance astounding, he just genuinely loves and roots for Lestat & the overarching story.
We can’t forget that the character of Claudia was created by Anne while she was processing the grief of losing her daughter to leukemia. It’s definitely something you don’t get over. I think that fed into the books.
29:05 sam's expressions and his 'it feels so good to be bad' has me on the floor 😂he does just really get lestat, it's beautiful to hear him nerd out about the books
@@AutumnBottomBrown Listen, the way there was not just a sneaky bit of TVL in there, but literally QOTD, body thief and Memnoch? You BOTH went to town. Incredible 💗
@@nannabachhenriksen agghhh!! We even talked a bit about Prince Lestat and some stuff there but my editor and I didn’t want non-book readers to feel too left out and we made a lot of the points made there later in talking about the show itself, but still, it was such a delight to talk about the full scope of the books with someone who knows them as intimately as he does.
@@AutumnBottomBrown I imagine the delight was mutual. 😍 Sam was definitely appreciating your knowledge as well! I read these books decades ago and now will fill up the time in between seasons with reviewing them all. Iʻm so excited!
@@AutumnBottomBrown He probably gets to flex those muscles way less than he wants to. I'd join his bookclub for sure! You two absolutely both made my evening (and gave me some soul-cleansing therapy that will hopefully get me through the finale later).
When I first saw the posters for the series, I wasn’t impressed, but a friend with impeccable taste recommended it, so I gave it a go. When I saw Reid’s Lestat…😍🥵😍🥵😍 Currently waiting for Season 3.
I love Sam always being the Lestat defender of the year. Shows how much he cares about the character. I see him on that “Well, I know what the reason is in the books, but…”
Since the first season, I always thought the relationship between Lestat and Claudia was impacted by Lestat’s grief over Nicki, particularly in the harshness he shows her. I think at times, he thought he was building her up by breaking her down. I’m glad to see that particular idea had some truth to it.
That is brilliantly put!!! Every time he was being shitty to her, I was like, “he’s just trying to show her the real world but he’s being the absolute worst fucking parent of all time” lol. As if by showing her all of that will make her stronger -- mentally and emotionally --than Nikki, and stay alive longer and be as happy as she can be (under her circumstances).
Exactly. I think it kind of all plays into the whole memory is a monster premise. Like every character is haunted by the ghosts/ monsters of their pasts which impacts how they interact with other people. Certain characters let it make them into monsters like Lestat, Armand, and even Louis to a point. Others just try to survive through it, but still make mistakes along the way like Claudia and Daniel. They’re all trying to cope with the hands they were dealt, but it doesn’t always work out the way they intended.
It's so satisfying to hear him speak about Lestat. He cares so much about the character and is so invested in it. It makes me so happy to know this beloved character is in such good hands. I'm sure Anne Rice, wherever she is, is pleased that justice is being done to her prince. ❤ Whoever did the casting on this show deserves AWARDS, cause can you think of a more perfect selection of actors????
... I'm in awe that she can put coherent sentences together and ask great questions with him holding direct eye contact with her, flexing his vocabulary and booklore knowledge all with such enthusiasm and passion... because respectfully....GOTDAYUMN!!! He is so handsome, and that voice is just sexy AF.... again, respectfully. Great interview 👏🏾
I'm truly impressed by Sam Reid's commitment to his role. The way he meticulously embodied Lestat's character, paying attention to every detail is commendable. He's brought Lestat to life with such care and dedication. I can't wait for the next season with more of him. Thank you Autumn for making this interview happen. I enjoyed every moment of it. 🥹❤️
Safe to say everyone's hearts are dancing right now. Really happy for you. Happy for him to see him in a great role. The first movie i saw of his was Anonymous in 2011. To see him go from side characters to leads over the years is great because he has the talent and the range.
"I've experimented a little with butterfly clips" 🤣Oh Sam, you're precious. Seriously though: he looks so great with long hair!!! I wish he liked it more and would keep it that way because it's very flattering on him! I'd love to see him try out some viking-esque braiding, or even an undercut (after filming has wrapped, of course).
I like the idea of Lestat as a victim of his own impulses - he sets things in motion, and then is hurt by what he's created - and so terribly sorry for himself at the same time as being self-recriminating.
@@AutumnBottomBrownyou haven’t interviewed Ben Daniels yet, it’s understandable though that he was just widowed last month. But when he becomes available to speak with you in this channel, we look forward for the full, uncensored, everything from playing Santiago to his love of genre projects! (He’s also going to be in the Rings of Power season 2 this year but a smaller role compared to IWTV)
@@jessicabenton5215 that’s why he was not at the premieres or doing press. This has been news among the fandom. Ben’s husband and partner of 31 years, actor Ian Gelder (who played Kevan Lannister in Game of Thrones), passed away last May due to bile duct cancer. Ian was diagnosed only last December (right after Ben wrapped up filming S2) and Ben had to turn down offers/projects to take care of his husband. They didn’t anticipate that it would be this fast. Unfortunately bile duct cancer is a rare form of cancer with little survival rate. (Even worse that in some cases, patients die within matter of weeks) It was reported by the Daily Mail a few days ago that Ian’s last will and testament has been published and all of his remaining estate and their property will be inherited by Ben. (Ian has a surviving brother though)

I'm glad Sam saw the "come to me" stuff at the trial as mean. I certainly did, and was mad. It's cool that he and Jacob came to an understanding about it, that it was semi-mutual. Although Louis definitely wanted to run from it, not embrace it.
Yes thank goodness Sam Reid cleared it up because there are some people who are insisting that everything that Lestat said was true. Someone even said she believed that Louis was "mentally pursuing" Lestat LOL.
And that I wasn't the only one who found it all a bit confusing. Still don't 100 per cent get if Lestat was the most powerful there why agree to join in with the trial at all? I assumed Armand was puppeteering him a bit but that's not it aince L saved Louis and was stronger. So...he joined in with the trial willingly and then...sad Lestat in the house in NOLA in E8. Seemed too big a jump.
@@naomideasey8789 there's a reason in The Vampire Lestat which we might get next season. Sam actually mentions it in the interview. But then again the show is changing so much that maybe they won't use that route.
Wow....just wow. Hello there from Argentina. 42 years old now, and I jumped into this world when I was 14. Listening to you guys mentioning The Queen of the Damned, Akasha, The Tale of the Body Thief, Memnoch, Claudia ghost, Gabrielle..... it took me back to those teenage-vampiric-dreamy years haha.....sighs. Congratulations and thank you, Autumn. I feel your reactions in the guts haha. All the best for you.
Hello, I'm a 48-year-old Brazilian woman and I've also loved Anne Rice since I was a teenager, I'm also very moved by this wonderful series. Hugs from Brazil , Sister in Anne Rice
Thank you!!! I only discovered the books after watching the first season & remain absolutely FLOORED by the care and devotion given to the show and all the book mentions, so I can only imagine how exciting it must feel to be someone like you who’s a lifelong fan getting to experience this! So glad I can be your proxy here 💛
He seems like such an absolutely adorable human being. I love that he knows the books so well and loves Lestat as much as the rest of us. And i hope he keeps the long blonde locks after Lestat, they really suit him. And that smile! Lights up my day
First off let me say that I love that Sam pronounces Lestat correctly! Almost everyone pronounces it wrong. Ah ah ah Lestat! Secondly I absolutely love Sam as Lestat! I honestly never thought that I would be able to accept someone other than Tom Cruise as Lestat, but now when I think of Lestat I see Sam’s face. I have waited 40 years for this series to happen. Thank you Sam for once again bringing the vampire of my dreams back to the screen 🖤 And that long blonde hair! Oh….my… god…. It’s amazing
I was thrilled with Sam's performance I have waited decades for someone to give me the perfect Lestat, the one I saw in my brain when I read the book decades ago Perfection
I just wanna say, Thank you Autumn, Thank you Sam. This discussion was amazing. I truly hope we get to see as much of the Vampire Chronicles as humanly possible.
Like he has such a serious demeanor but it’s trust worthy honest and genuine.. Also want to say the interviewer has such a great interviewing style that it’s flexible to any personality she’s interacting with
I want a three hour interview with Sam talking about the show. And one with Jacob. And one with Jacob and Sam together. Thank you for this! It's so great to hear these amazing actors discuss the characters and the show in more depth.
as a person with bpd (borderline personality disorder) who has read the first two books and who ADORES lestat....he most definitely has that and/ or histrionic personality disorder. I identify with his MASSIVE and rapidly flipping emotions, and as a vampire he's got that even MORE intensified. his trauma growing up compounded with the trauma of his turning and everything after..... Lestat will always hold a special place in my soul ❤❤
Autumn this was fantastic. I need to know what your aftercare was like coz this can't have been easy on the nerves. Especially since you hid them so well for an entire hour. You're stronger than Thanos. I appreciate you so much. Thank you❤️
For Me, Lestat was his most self- reflective was in “The Tale of the Body Thief.” Lestat was given the chance to be human during Winter, caught a cold, experienced sex with a woman who cried after he didn’t use a condom, and if you could remember when Lestat got his vampiric body back? Remember Lestat’s remarks about human life? Another fact when Lestat experienced stigmata. Lestat was ill- fated his entire life.
He wore it short in NEWSREADER. Sam played a newsreader which was supposed to be in the 90s. It's funny because in it he was quite a introvert the opposite to Lestat. I loved him in the movie BELLE. It is a true historical drama and he has his long hair put back in it. I got the DVD second hand from eBay.
38:19 oh I get now why Lestat has said “I’m burden with my father/maker’s temper”, even tho we know (in the books) that’s not true. It’s a reference to generational toxic masculinity. And I agree with Sam!
Autumn I definitely needed this Therapized appointment, scheduling me in for next weekly session .Thank you for amazing interview session with Sam aka Lestat de Lioncourt he such as good sport 🥰🥰🥰
It is blowing me away how genuinely humble this cast is in interviews. It makes being a fan so much more enjoyable! You're havig the best type of conversation fans could see from them, in my opinion. I'm grateful for them to express their thoughts and insights which demonstrate passion for their part and the whole production. I imagine actors, usually, as eventually becoming complacent after so much fanfare around them but my god they are just shining and brilliant! 🌠 This is one of the most incredible productions I've fallen in love with in YEARS! Thank you, again, for this content! On to another one of yours and hopeful for more in the future ❤
thank you so much for this interview. it's so nice to see a full conversation with sam where he can fully go into character lore and go in depth about these emotional scenes. i am planning to binge watch all of season one and two before the finale tomorrow, so to hear how cognizant sam was of lestat's backstory going through, it's really quite beautiful.
Tell him it's not ok to constantly look that good and why Lestat felt the need to get a blowout done on his hair before the trial ?? I should have been appalled but I was mesmerized?? SIR??
I have been checking your channel every hour since the review of episode 7. I can sleep tonight 😊 Thank you for all you do 🌷 Brava Sam's description of his thoughts on the Theatre de Vampires is brilliant.
What a fantastic interview. Autumn (beautiful name by the way), you did such a brilliant job of putting Sam at ease and letting him geek out with his passion for The Vampire Chronicles. A real pleasure to watch. I'm definitely subscribing now, can't wait to see more.
Thank you for the interview! Well done! Enjoyed it ! Sam is not an easy customer! He is a perfectionist and has embraced Lestat’s character to a level that makes us root for him! Happy we will continue to see him bring Lestat to the small screen.
Okay I'm late to this because I just mainlined the whole series in 3 days (super late to the party) but his offense at you saying he's not a natural blonde 😂😂
And this; lady's, gens and whoever you identify with, is the reason, why SAM REID is the PERECT cast for Lestat. What do you want more from an actor? 1h testament to lore, canon, books, adaption and character deep dives bejonde borders. I already loved him so much. I am over the moon and back now.
