How heart warming. Three men speaking sincerely about their friend....not the celebrity....but the human, the person, who just happened to be a little superhuman on the side. I love the stories of how Freddie worked in the studio- his inspiration, impatience, boundless energy. This is a refreshing change to the stream of drunken night out stories that float around so freely. It is obvious that Mike Moran is angry about some of the people who were 'close' to Freddie. It's endearing to hear Freddie's positive character traits spoken about with such fond memories and love - gentle, kind, sweet, considerate, responsible. Makes it impossible not to fall in love with him a little bit more 💖
Mac Reinhold, a great man to be respected. He loved, understood, respected Freddy. Mac is a very excellent sound engineer !! Excellent man !! Mike Moran and David Richard also knew .; Freddie Mercury is a genius, the only one. Only morally great people can recognize genius!
Such a beautiful video. I am always impressed by how much Freddie meant to everyone in his life. The love, the continuing grief and loss is so etched in their faces. I hope he realised how much he was loved, how much love he inspired. It's a very beautiful legacy, his love, beyond his music.
juliact I totally agree. Thanks to RU-vid we get to finally see all of these videos and hear the truth about so many people that we were never able to meet. I love the video where Queen were horsing around and recording “ONE VISION” & Freddie and the boys were goofing around and Freddie Mercury was making up all kinds of silly words.. Reinhold Mack was laughing the whole time.😂😂 Freddie was singing “ One dump, two turds two tickets, John Deacon” & Mack was laughing hysterically at the four of them. I found out six months or so later watching a RU-vid video that Reinhold Mack’s youngest son is Freddie Mercury‘s godson. He and his wife named his youngest son, Freddie. Thus. The boy’s name is Freddie Mack. How cool!!
I hope the same thing. he spent so much of his life seeking someone who could handle his work and be a part of his life. The lonliness must have been all consuming at times. Except for Mary- he always needed to find someone to trust and they were very few and far between for Freddie..I hope he knew and can see us now as well. We still love you--
@@montereyharris1277 Mack and Freddie had a bet going on the sex of the baby. I believe they flipped a coin, and if it was a boy , he would be the Godfather. If he lost , they would name him Freddie. He spent many hours at Mack's house with Mack and his family- playing with the kids and at one time said" So this is what real life feels like?."--He was a beautiful man. That is a quote from his autobiography, ( a compilation of interviews).
How wonderful to hear the thoughts of his close friends and how much they treasured him! Freddie was a class act! What a wonderful person ! We can learn a lot from Freddie!!❤️💛

What an incredible interview. These men worked with Fred, knew him for his good, bad and most important times- and his true love- creating and writing music. Freddie had trouble keeping friends- ."Treat your friends better than anyone else"- Freddie Mercury was not only a genius musically but a beautiful man inside. In a world full of frauds, Freddie was nothing but honest and sincere in his caring.. His work with Monserrat meant so much to him- They loved changing places for awhile- with him trying to sing opera, and her trying to sing rock music- in the end, the collaboration was neither one- it was each artist, singing out of their hearts- a joy, a love , a masterpiece. I hope he can see us now, we still love you Freddie-- We still love you.

I get emotional watching this because ive seen so many videos about Freddie and read so much about Freddie, what makes me so emotional is that they describe Freddie exactly as i imagine him as been. If you know what i mean and thats so heart breaking that he had to die so young. The word GENIUS doesnt go far enough in Freddies case.
Even now in 2019 those who knew him well continue to grieve losing their beloved friend, Freddie. I’ve always been a “poor girl from a poor family”, never able to afford attendance at concerts but I love him nonetheless! Such a beautiful human being who (as well his dear friends and companions Brian, John, and Roger) have brought joy to my life. Thank you all!

Freddie strived for excellence. I don't beli he was insecure, just shy. He had a desire to do his best and to be his best self. He was philosophically Zoroastrian; a person of good thoughts, good words, good deeds. He probably had regrets at the end, but he lived his life without apologies. If only we all could be more like him. 💙
Can't write my pleasure - only feel - the info in this video cements my love for Freddie Mercury whom I only 'met' on his birthday this month. Yes. But . . .his talent, his goodness, the respect and love others convey together with his MUSIC is everything that causes my addiction to his living. So happy to have the CDs. Thanks for these interviews with people I've wondered about especially having immersed myself in "Barcelona". Great work all around.
Love these interviews. This is the stuff I want to hear about Freddie. Mack is correct, Freddie is/was a genius. Mike is also correct when he stated that Freddie is the best singer ever. Freddie could go low, middle or high. I can't think of another male singer who had/has a wide range like Freddie. I've learned more from Mack, Mike & Dave than hearing anything from Brian & Roger.
I love Reinhold Mack he was such a great friend to Freddie I still remember the video One Vision and him busting out grinning at Freddie clowning around.

When Freddie would say, "oh I am not a genius ", is just the kind of thing genius's would say! The way he thought was his normal thought and had no idea that normal people can't even imagine those kinda of thoughts existed. lol God bless him and may he RIP with all the angels. Good question! ! All of this was not shown in the film because Brian gave instructions to the film and of course Roger. Brian is an incredibly envious and vain, jealous man. He was in constant strife in the gang. Roger was rude many times. Freddie's kindness and genius held the band together The BR film is a vile shame. It also shows how little they knew about Freddy ... or rather they were envious Only Johnn knew Freddy - in the gang. It’s no coincidence that Freddie left the band after his death! Brian and Roger are two traitors.
@@flora3177 I agree with your summary! I find Brian comes off as a narcissist! I may be wrong. Just look at the remastered videos, whose face is featured the most! In my opinion, Freddie was the musical genius behind Queen, he led the band to international stardom with his genius. They were fortunate that Freddie had a generous and caring spirit! They are legends because of his musical genius. After 1991 where are the new songs and harmonies? Actually they use Freddie’s image to make more money!
I agree 💯! Brian & Roger pull out the Freddie card when it suits their purpose. They couldn’t even make a post on the 30th anniversary of Freddie’s death! They could have just posted a pic if they didn’t want to comment. Brian kept incessantly posting about his album reissue and couldn’t even pause the promotion to comment on the 30th anniversary of Freddie’s tribute concert! He was also promoting some book ?, I believe, in the same post he made on Freddie’s last birthday! He comments about Made in Heaven being a favorite “Queen “ song!! That was Freddie’s solo song that they ruined by overfilling it with guitar & drums. Same with I Was Born To Love You! The real kicker was giving it to Adam to sing! Their comments in the press are just disrespectful, especially from Brian! Freddie was the catalyst for their success and the heart of Queen! I’ll always love Queen’s music but I’ve lost respect for Brian & Roger.
@@starburst6606 All you wrote is true! Brian is a jealous narcissist! Freddie was not only a brilliant vocalist, but performer, arranger of all Queens songs AND a caring and kind band mate. He was the brain behind Queen. His charisma and talent brought Queen to international stardom. Thank God for him. The film bohemian Rapsody was disrespectful to his memory as It was not a true depiction of his talent and life. Brian sells Freddie’s image for his own gain. Look at the book he brought out with Freddie on the cover with Brian photos in it. Lastly, no new Queen’s songs since Freddie’s death why? They cannot produce or sing or arrange like Freddie. These guys are more honest and clear about WHO Freddie was moreso than Peter Freestone who tends to romanticized Freddie rather than being real and complete about Freddie.
Thank you so much for uploading this video. What a gift to hear all these testimonies about Freddie from Mike, David and Mack. Even though it's stuff we know, hearing the perspectives of men like these who knew Freddie well and collaborated with him on such an intimate musical and personal/social level was a treat. So heartwarming to hear other creators pay homage to Freddie so openly and honestly and without ego. They were/are all excellent musical experts in their own right so to hear their unabashed awe of Freddie's extraordinary genius over and over again really makes you realize yet again what a unique and rare being Freddie was on all fronts. I feel and hear so much more love for Freddie pouring from these three men than I have ever heard or felt from Brian May, and Brian was Freddie's actual band mate. It makes these interviews even more precious and makes me miss Freddie so much more. But it also it is strangely comforting to know that for all the people who did not fully comprehend or fully acknowledge the magnitude of the person and a musician Freddie was, there were those few, like this men and many others, who did.
Thank you for compiling these interview videos. It's very touching that you can feel how much Freddie's coworkers loved him and still missed him. I do hope one day we could hear the side of story from John Deacon. That Brian and Roger have not spoken to John for once all these years tells you something. That's just not normal among friends.
November 24th of 2021 will be the 30th Anniversary of Freddie's passing. Hard to believe that a whole generation of people have not had the chance to see and hear him personally.

What a brilliant insight into the real Freddie! I can see so clearly now what an amazing choice Rami Malek was to take on the role in Bohemian Rhapsody. No one could understand at first what Elliot Alderson in Mr Robot could possibly have had in common with Freddie but it is so beautifully obvious here.
This video makes me wonder how Freddie would’ve reacted if we’d passed each other on the street, me as a fan and him as..., well,...him. I’d love to think he would’ve at least said hi to me.😁
@Dandymite You know, you are right. I’m starting to notice that alot about Mack. In all his interviews there’s always a bit “zing”, some comment that makes me think “what the...?” Why do you think that is?
Lilian O I’ve always percieved it as his sense of humor, a bit dry and dark (German, lol) but always tongue in cheek. Personally I also believe he thought Freddie was totally outlandish, but in a good way.
@@jackdaw99 Agree, it does seem to be a cultural/personality thing, partly. I also wonder if another part of it was also a language/semantics thing. Sometimes humor translates differently in a non-native language. So, even with someone as fluent in English as Mack is, there are definitely times when he makes a joke and I feel like "Hmm, that sentence probably sounds less "zing" in German, but in English it hits a bit...off", in a way that I'm not sure he is aware of, or even intends. Then other times, I wonder if it *IS* a conscious thing, using the low key shade as a form of irreverence, to show "closeness". Like how some people will sometimes put friends down to show "yeah I can do this because I know them "like that"." It's not something I agree with, because I think it can come across as being mean, or in poor taste. But I have wondered whether that is also an aspect of it, where Mack is concerned. Anyway, just random ruminations. Regardless, I have always appreciated the fact that Mack has always been vocal about how easy, painless and stress-free it was to work with Freddie in the studio, and how symbiotic him and Freddie were in terms of their approach to music and their processes. It's not in this interview (I don't think?) but one of my favorite quotes of his is when he discusses the differences between working with Freddie and working with Brian. Pure gold, that. lol.
Lilian O I definitely think you’re right about it being a language thing! English is not my native language so I probably don’t pick up on all the details though. And you’re probably also right about people wanting to show how close they were with Freddie. It makes a lot of sense. But with Mack it still sounds so sincere somehow, he’s very straightforward and not at all about sugar coating things, but still always very respectful and admiring. When Mack speaks about Freddie it’s clear Freddie was an actual person, not some kind of perfect superhuman. I really, really like that. He always makes me laugh, and that Brian thing is hilarious, haha!

Agree with you there; the interviews from people who were close to Freddie who are also able to shed light on Freddie as a very human, very real and "normal" person (well, as much as he could be in that industry) are the best. It's funny, but I think *that's* actually the reason why Freddie was is still so loved by so many: because he WAS (by his own accounts and those of others), NOT a perfect person. Nor did he try to appear that way. He was very much human and "normal" in many ways. You can see in his interviews among many other things. He just happened to also have some superhuman gifts/talents, and also some very unique and rare personality traits (supreme loyalty, personal/professional/creative/ emotional generosity, the ability to focus intensely and produce hits one after the other, etc etc). I think sometimes people get the wrong impression and think that people who respect and admire Freddie do so because they see Freddie as some sort of "perfect person or saint", but I think it's actually *the opposite*. They love him becaise he clearly was *not* a saint, nor was he perfect, and nor did he claim to or try to be. What he does seem to have been is a person who operated from a place of "doing good", a giver, a place of putting out good energy, a place of giving in every way, a place of helping to bring joy to others, or make others better, a place of helping to cultivate growth, a generosity of spirit, etc. He was not (by all accounts) a taker, or a person who moved with negativity, or wished others harm or ill, or a person who sought to harm, or bring others down, etc. (Unless they betrayed him or caused him harm in which case YES, and rightly so. lol.) That key difference I think is what can make him seem even more superhuman, lol: because it's hard to imagine that someone who wasn't perfect, who was so human, with many normal human imperfections, BUT also with such meteoric musical gifts, can STILL have millions of global fans decades after his death.
❤️💔 I love and miss Freddie even more watching these heartfelt interviews. Those tiny little details got me the most. At the same time the video reminds me of another interview I came across on RU-vid I'd rather forget. On a British TV, 2 TV presenters was having a quick chat with Roger Taylor. Out of the blue, one of them asked Roger: "Who do you think is the best singer ever so far?" (or something like that). Taylor gave it a bit of thought and said (very quietly): "David Bowie." (An awkward moment. Roger looked uncomfortable, unsure, unhappy, over all just miserable). My heart sank. I wanted to cry. I did not believe Roger really thought so deep down. Could it be a reason of the political correctness? Could it be this or that ? Maybe? But then again, what do I know? I now had my rant, I like to forget that scene completely. Replace it with this intimate loving ones 💔💗
@Swirlwind Shirl That is quite disappointing but sadly not surprising to hear. So many things that Roger and Brian May have said (and done) in interviews before and since Freddie’s death just boggle the mind. Who knows why Roger said that. I do not believe like you said that he even believed that which is what makes it even sadder. Is it Envy? Resentment? Unwillingness to give Freddie his due even in death? Did someone put him up to it for “reasons unknown to us”? Was it a momentary lapse in judgement? Because the way that question was asked it’s clear that even the interviewer is expecting the answer we all would expect from Roger: “the best singer is obviously my beloved band mate and friend, the incomparable Freddie Mercury.” But that’s exactly why this interview with these men here makes me SO incredibly satisfied and happy. These men, Mack, Mike and David, accomplished in their own right, did not feel any hesitation at all in acknowledging Freddie’s genius as a musician, singer and person. Their bigheartedness and lack of ego or resentment or even the slightest bit of jealousy makes comments from Freddie’s former band mates seem quite small and lacking generosity of spirit and honestly. In other words, these men make them look quite petty to be honest.

I would have look at Roger Taylor in a different light if he'd answer it as snappy as you quoted 👍 Was it a trap, a setup to put him on the spot for whatever reason? Might Taylor be a victim there, who knows. Unlike Freddie, he's so use to parried questions of all sorts; then, give answers buried deep in his songs for those clever enough to read. ✌️
Lilian O i agree with you . Things that I have heard Roger and Brian say even recently has made me wonder about their real intention and relationship with Freddie . I heard from Freddie several times that the band argued a lot and he had to be diplomatic. I admire John for separating himself from those two .
@@ninaahmadvand3523 I honestly have a suspicion that Freddie was also the only person who kept John sane in that band to be honest. I think the prospect of continuing in the band without Freddie AND then on top of that, having to now deal with Brian and Roger 24/7 would just have sent John to the mad house and he knew it. While we're on the topic, I also don't really believe John has ever said he approves of the film or approves of Adam Lamber or approves of them pimping out Freddie the way they have all these years. I saw an early interview in the early 90s shortly after the tribute concert where Brian pretty much said "John is very opposed to continuing to perform Queen music without Freddie". I think Brian is just smart and knows that John will never come out of hiding to challenge anything that Brian or Roger do or say because John doesn't have the time or interest in all that stuff, so Brian knows can pretty much say "John's okay with it" and the public will believe it.

I think everything you said about him applies to Freddie’s family as well . Brian knows that his family won’t challenge him . They are spiritual people and not interested in drama so he is doing whatever he wants with his legacy . In one interview I heard Roger say “ Brian and I decided to form a band called Queen and we took Freddie in ! “ I have heard so much untruth coming out of their mouth that I don’t even know which one to pinpoint . Parts of the "Deluxe"-version of the "Barcelona" album are kind of hilarious as it shows that F. M. could make demos without M. C. but with "her" voice.
On said "Barcelona" album, I noticed the line "I want it all" in the song "The Fallen Priest", seemingly a reference to the "Queen" song with the same name. Only, that song came later or did it? Another line, also from "the Fallen Priest": "with you", on the demo "Rachmaninov's Revenge" it's "to me". Just happened to be the same as in the end of "Bohemian Rhapsody", maybe even in the same key too. Coincidence? The meaning of "with you" seems to be more or less the opposite of "to me", true? At least very different. Someone tell me about the obvious need for making backwards music, voices and movies? Isn't that satanic, really? Is it done purely for certain musical effects or for hidden, sublime messages? Backwards music is to be found on said "Barcelona" album, where it's done either by replaying the some parts backwards or by playing the notes backwards, on songs by the Beatles, Queen, Jimi Hendrix, the Electric Light Orchestra, etc.
I think it’s really sad that Mack wasn’t as close to Freddie at the end of his life as he had been a few years earlier. Mack had so much respect for Freddie that he named his son after him and made Freddie his son’s godfather.
I don't know who is who, except for Mike Moran. Which one is Mack? I wish their names showed up when each of them comes on. Moreover, is the guy @4:18 the same as @6:53 but in different times/years (forgive my lack of info.. they kind of look alike and have the same accent)
I think Mack's comment was very telling and a good cautionary tale for all of us: "I didn't try hard enough. I should have tried harder. That's the thing that I'm not happy with myself about the most". I agree with him. I think he did have so much respect for Freddie but I think he let himself down and Freddie down by not trying hard enough to remain in touch. I think in those last years it was probably very clear to Freddie who his real friends were. They are the ones who fought to see him, even after he put up the barriers.
That is correct, it confuses a lot of people. It has the same latin origin "monacium" or "monachium", which means by the monks and indicates the first settlers there. For Munich the city they usually say "Monaco di Baviera" in Italy.

Truer words were never said., so bittersweet, joyful to hear so much love, respect and understanding for Freddie, but also makes you miss Freddie’s presence and music in the world even more. The story from Mike about Freddie’s approach to friendship and his feeling that friends were exactly who he wanted to go above and beyond for, that just stopped my heart. It shut him up completely and made him realize what an absolutely gift of a human Freddie was and also I’m sure, it made him feel very grateful and special to be included in that very small tight circle of people who were special enough for Freddie to go to such great lengths for. It must have been like basking in a warmth of the warmest most yellow sun, when you were enveloped in Freddie’s friendship . 🌞💜💓🌞🌞🌻

Montserrat Caballé had always treasured the friendship they had and was so sad when Freddie not allow her to see him towards the end of his life. Sir.Elton John, I read, was in that tight circle, visited Freddie not long before he die. He had a go with masses of journo camped outside the Garden Lodge. That beautiful heart-shaped, salmon roses bouquet in Freddie's funeral was from him. "Elton cried inconsolably from the beginning to the end through out the whole funeral". Later that year Elton received a present brought to him by a mutual friend on Christmas Day. He oped it and collapsed; It was from Freddie 🎁 "That's the kind of friend Freddie was. I cried all day like a baby..."

I loved these interviews - all three seemed to love and respect Freddie, and I got a fuller sense of what Freddie was like after viewing it. (Funny, generous, kind, perfectionistic, professional, etc.) I'd heard it before, but was corroboration. I loved when Mike Moran said that Freddie always gave "absolutely everything in every performance" - that's one of the (many) things I find so inspiring about Freddie.
