Peter Freestone Interview - The real Freddie Mercury, Behind closed doors and more.

Freddie Mercurys close friend and personal assistant Peter Freestone talks to me about his friendship with Freddie, about Mary Austin and was Paul Prenter the villain as the movie portrays? plus Peter also talks about Freddie's final days and what he was like behind closed doors.
I am 25 years old and this was a true honor to get to speak to Peter and find out more about one of the great musicians the world has ever seen.

Thank you,Peter for keeping Freddie's legacy alive. I will never forget him. I am one year older than Freddie would be. I believe,today's young people should know the true talent of Freddie Mercury as there will never be another like Freddie.

I absolutely LOVE Phoebe! Thank you, Phoebe for being such a lovely, devoted friend! Freddie was a brilliant, intelligent and gifted human, whose death was so brutally unfair! His death must have just left his friends distraught for a long time, such a big presence in their lives gone but also so many wonderful memories. So hard to believe it's been 32 years now! Thank you for this great interview.

I teared up a couple times during this wonderful interview. Lewis Nicholls, you did the most sincere, warm interview I think I've heard in my long life. And Peter Freestone responded in kind. The stories were so warm and caring about a man you clearly thought the world of. It was the nicest hour of listening. Thanks to both of you. Absolutely lovely.

Peter seems like a very humble and respectful guy. I have read his book, and I have to say it was well written and not just a re-hash of quotes and stories, but written by one of Freddies real close friends. You can tell that all the interviews Peter gives are in keeping Freddies memory alive and not about Peter himself, which is very refreshing to see/Hear. Most folk want to be famous by association or a tenuous link . But Peter lived for many years with Freddie and didn't sell him out like a lot of others did. A true friend.

I love Mr. Freestone. He is a true gentleman, not wanting to gain any monetary gains by scandalizing Freddie. He was a true friend to Freddie and told his fans intimate details of this magical man. I believe every word he says. The movie WAS NOT A DOCUMENTARY, it was a film that has brought Queen to a new generation of fans. In my opinion, the film told us just enough to know what the Freddie under the glamor, really was like. A musical genius, a kind, thoughtful, generous, man who cherished those he loved. I am obssessed with the magic of Freddie Mercury.

Michele Huffman, Freddie's friends didn't just love Peter, AKA, "Phoebe", his fans did so, too. Me, again. I just listened again. I really appreciated Peter's take on Paul Prenter. I think of an interview in which it was discussed that Freddie had had a couple of abusive relationships following Mary, before meeting Jim Hutton. Take those three and that would explain that Paul was representative of about 3 people. More news about Mary, very appreciated. I'm thinking that her personal quietness (as it were) was like Freddie's personal shyness; that alone helps me to understand their unique, strong bond. I'm one who's seen the film a ridiculous amount of times and am loving what I learn about Freddie and Queen. Lewis, this interview is bringing out facets that I couldn't fit. And, yes, how cool that you had this wonderful interview with Peter! Congrats! QUEEN has always been my favorite band. The theatrics that Freddie brought to the stage through their reign will forever be the best ever. No other group could ever come close. Growing up in the 60s and as a young adult in the 70s it was always Queen first. Did it bother me that Freddie was gay? Absolutely not! He had and incredible voice, mind and heart. I’m going to see Queen and Adam Lambert in Charlotte, NC this Friday and I can’t wait! Adam has brought the theater back to them in a different way. Being around the same age as Brian and Roger, I’m looking forward to being back in the 70s with a new twist and will be rocking the whole time. Thank you QUEEN for a wonderful life of the greatest music ever❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thank you to all those who stood beside him throughout his final days. He has been missed so much by so many. I wonder sometimes what he would be like today and am sure he would still be on that stage with his colorful performances. He was in Brian’s words a Lover of Life, a Singer of Songs.

delainepep22, I would recommend Jim Hutton's "Mercury, and Me", as well, and that is a good book to read, I read it, when I was 17, or 18. I read it once, and couldn't put it down.

@@delainepep22, no problems, just happy to help fellow Queen fans. I don't know about the cost, cos that was 17, or 18 years ago. I don't about the price in $, just £, as I live in England.

Peter,your voice speaks truth-it is obvious. Thank you. I recently,after the movie found Freddie and Queen ,besides as you put it,The We Are The Champions,etc at sports events. You clarified or brought to light so many questions I had, I have been fighting cancer,I must get some wrestling shoes! I am a lady who is absolutely intrigued, in love with your dear friend, Freddie who so sadly is deceased. You brought him to life and have calmed me from some ignorant people who are still trying for their 15 min of Fame,even if they must invent very mean things about your friend,Freddie Mercury. Thank you. To the interviewer,wow,you sound like you have been doing a lot of research. Your questions were ,so it seemed, questions you really cared to know. This was wonderful!! I have one thought or question...There would not have been a band named Queen that dared ,as Freddie did,to just go for it,all the dreams of who or what many could not or would not dare to do, to be Freddie Mercury,the true performer,thus.. Queen. Thank you both!

Lovely interview and great to get such a recent update from Peter on things. By the way for die-hard fans you should know that Peter or Phoebe as they like to call him has a very fascinating blog where he has answered all sorts of people's questions over the last 8-10 years. I am dutifully reading them from oldest to newest and it is very well done.

Donna Milano, you're the perfect example of why Peter freestone is still talking about Freddie Mercury. There is still a great amount of interest even down to a little detail like what was happening at a specific party. The only person who could possibly know and probably not even him is around and people like to ask him detailed questions just as you have.
@sandradalton1611
@sandradalton1611 5 лет назад
@Donna Milano peter Freestone never did anything to hurt Freddie. You're question is almost laughable. He's been nothing but a true friend to Freddie. Even in death.

Such a lovely interview! I watched the Movie on a flight to Fort Lauderdale (from Oslo, Norway) and I "fell in love" With Freddie. Born in 1972, I have had Queen and Freddie frequently in my ears , and one of my first ever casettes bought was by Queen at the age of 12. I never "discovered" them really, they were just there and I liked what I was hearing at the time. I am more of a "Metalfan", but as a singer and humanbeing, I was left in awe by the Movie. I always thought he was gay and that was it. Even to this day, my gay friends (Young!) also has girlfriends before they Discover that they are gay…...I am, by chance straight myself, but I feel that I have always been so different, so maybe that is why I just love other "different" People. I discovered Freddie to late, but OMG he is: warm, hilarious and human. Total respect for his musicality and poweful voice! (His love of cats is also a huge plus!

A beautifully thought out and conducted interview. This is something as an avid FM fan of 60 yrs age, I have listened to with deep interest. As Peter says, Lewis, you made the interview interesting with such poignant and well developed questions from a base of brilliant research. Thank you to both Peter and yourself fora vastly entertaining hour.
