Ya, it's a bit of a free for all with this stuff. I ADDED SOME EXTRA HELPFUL TIPS FOR PEOPLE IN THIS COMMENT!!! I hope you don't mind Joe??? Lots of youtube videos and time to figure out what's right for you. You did a fine job man! I have had mine up for 8 years all year round now, and I've done a lot and learned a lot about it, but it's a trial and error hobby for sure. I was thinking I should do a youtube channel for all the different things I did in separate vids to help people. The one thing I haven't seen only do, that I wish I could tell people about before they setup their pools is, get some of the 4x8 sheets of Styrofoam insulation and tuck tape them together, them put your pool on top of them. HUGE difference for comfort on the bottom of the pool and another layer of protection, and insulating... I read it's best to use PVC for the piping, but regular black ABS is way cheaper and works great for me. You can get the Bestway/intex converters that will screw right into the ABS turning but coupler ends, then use regular Intex or Bestway pool hose if you want to as well. The only place you should have bendable pipe or hose is at the pool if the pool liner moves when in use, otherwise it's hard on the pool, but depends which pool you have. It's best to have your pump closer to the pool for better suction, which in your case is good. Mine is around 20 feet away, which still works, but is a bit less suction, so using any kind of a vacuum is not as great for me... Your pump is a 3000gph .75hp with the 16" Sand Filter, so you should be good to go no problem with a Wanda the Whale or one of those types of pool cleaners if you ever wanted one. They need min 1800gph to run properly, so you are golden! I got a 1.5hp Hayward pump to upgrade my setup, but it's too strong for my Intex Salt Water Chlorinator System, so I should have gotten the 1hp instead. My original Intex pump is only about 1500gph and it can't run this Wanda the Whale unfortunately. If you ever need to repair the pool liner for any reason, big or small, get some Pool Goop or Marine Goop if you can't get the Pool Goop. It is AMAZING!!! Use Vaseline on the rubber gaskets and connection and ports, to keep them sealed nice and easy to turn, and to decrease wear and tear. EDIT: ADDED ANOTHER TIP I FORGOT ABOUT: BUBBLE COVERS: ----------------------------- 1 more tip I forgot above, a lot of people get the blue bubble cover to keep the leaves out and to help warm and insulate the pool, BUT the clear thicker bubble cover does a way better job and it heats the pool a noticeable amount more than the blue one does! I figured, probably like most other people, that the blue would work better because it was a darker color, but nope, I read it in a few places online and tried it out and the clear thicker one is way better and worth the small extra amount of money it costs for sure! Here is the clear solar cover that works awesome, and I got it from PoolSupplyCanada: 12 x 24 ft Rectangle Clear Premium Solar Cover 14 mil SIDE-WALL SKIMMERS ON SOFT POOLS: ----------------------------------------------------------------- If you plan on cutting your pool liner to install a side wall skimmer, one thing I didn't put much thought into at the time was, how high the water level would have to be after. I just put it as safely close to the top as I could, without cutting into the more thicker top area of the liner, but didn't realize that the water level would have to be lower after so the skimmer would work properly. It still works fine, but the water is lower now, and not much above the return water port, so if I lose an inch of water now, the returning water from the pump is partly out of the water. It's not that big of a deal, but it's noisy and annoying for some people... I bought the square shaped skimmer, and if I was to do it again, I would look for a rectangle one that doesn't go as far down maybe??? It's something to consider and maybe look into if anyone is looking at side wall skimmers to cut into the liner wall and install. Figured I'd add this into these tips. Also, I haven't had much success with the skimmer collecting much either, mostly because my pump is further from the pool, so the skimmer alone isn't enough to supply enough water to my pump, and the 2nd port to draw water to the pump was needed as well, so the suction is split in 2. I piped the 2 ports to the ABS pipes and each have an adjustable ball valve (so I can adjust the pressure), then they merge into 1 pipe to go to the pump about 20 feet away. This is another good reason to have your pump closer to the pool, so it can get supplied with enough water to the pump without bottlenecking the water supply too much over a long distance. That's about all the hints and tricks I can suggest from what I can remember off hand that would apply to your setup. I have a bunch of info on the natural gas heaters and Intex salt water chlorinators and stuff as well, but that's not your thing right now. If you ever want any advice for this stuff, I'll reply and let you know if I ran into the same issues and what I did, but it's not necessarily the perfect way to do things, it would just be what I know or figured out over time. Anyway, I hope some of this would be handy info for you or anyone else looking for ideas or info... I know the Pool Goop or Marine Goop will help eventually for sure, I tried a lot of glues and repair stuff and those are incredible! My drain port on one end of my pool tore off or separated from the line on the big round pressed or factory glued part, because it was a huge frozen ice block in there in winter a few years ago, and I used the Pool Goop and glued it back together and built up some layers over and over to thicken it up and overlap it inside the pool and outside the pool, even filled in the drain port. And it's been great ever since, other than looks shitty because its rusty brown yellow looking when it dries after awhile... It's at the bottom far corner so whatever... I'm Canadian, so I get most of my pool stuff from PoolSupplyCanada site. They are reliable, fast shipping, and free shipping if you spend over $200 (kind of a lot unfortunately), but for $20 or $50 worth of stuff it's really cheap shipping anyway so no big deal... I'm sure there are other great places to order from as well, I found stuff was great priced here about 8 years ago when I started doing the pool stuff, so I just kept ordering from them and have been happy. Let me know if anyone knows others that are great to deal with, if anyone else reads this hidden tips section. LOL Anyway, good job man, I like what you did!

Man, this video and this comment could save so many people so much time, money, and effort. I've been working on mine for 2.5 years now. Have a bunch of the stuff done except hard piping and switching to larger inlets but the tips in this video and on this comment for doing so are life saving.

@@rescuerhonda0164 just the 1" Styrofoam. This is the stuff I use: Durofoam EPS Rigid Insulation 96Inch X 48Inch X 1Inch (4x8 sheets 1 inch thick) Unfortunately just like most things, it's gone up a lot in price lately. It used to be around $5 a sheet I think.

@@RonaldHurley7 I agree. I felt bad about using this video to add my own helpful tips to, and wish I could make my own. I hope he doesn't mind my stuff here with his. I also remembered a few more things the other day, but didn't make a note of them, so I forgot what they were sorry... If I remember, I'll toss them on here as well, as long as the Joe doesn't mind.

@@RonaldHurley7 I remembered one of the tips, and it was about the clear and a bit thicker solar bubble cover, so I added it to my tips above. It's a must if you like to hold in and generate heat in your pool. Down in the southern states I think some people would rather cool off their pools sometimes, so this wouldn't be the best for them.

Very nice hydraulic set up. One last improve would be at the pump intake, use a straight pipe at inlet min 6times the diameter to prevent any possible cavitation.

Great job man, quick question: Did you have any issues finding standard plumbing to connect to the male connection at the pump? I'm getting ready to hard plumb mine and they seem to be metric or an off size?

Awesome video, few questions, 1; have you considered using a Hayward skimmer? 2; I have the same pump and was wondering, with the 90° at the outlet, what is you average running pressure? Really awesome video that I'll definitely be referring to when I go to hard pipe my vinyl pool.

Hey Ron so sorry for the late reply. I don't feel the need for the skimmer. This setup stayed really clean all year and I never felt the need for the skimmer. As far as the pressure I don't remember the number but it was low as I used the filter balls instead of sand

I live in Northern Nevada and we get snow and 9° weather in winter. I bought the Bestway 12 x 22' pool at Costco last year. I took it down in August because of the horrible wildfires around us and ash in water = lye (my chiropractor told me that, otherwise I wouldn't have dumped the water until later. So, my question - how do these pools hold up in winter after draining the water?
@slakjawnotsayin5451
@slakjawnotsayin5451 2 года назад
I have left mine up for 8 years I think now. I just drain it to about a foot or so under the lowest jet/port. Then undo all plastic jets and pipe nuts, because plastic will expand and contract, and they will crack. All my hard piped ABS stays in place, I just undo the ends that go to the jets, and put the jets and flexible hoses and stuff like that in the shed. The ABS pipe is also on a gradual slope from the pool to the pump/heater/chlorinator area, so no water stays in them. I started just leaving my pump and sand filter and chlorinator out all winter too, but they all have to be drained for sure, then I just put poly plastic over them and tuck tape them so they are good and covered. The first couple of years I didn't have a cover on the pool, and it bothered me, so after I built my deck all the way around it, I got one of those child safety covers that hook onto these posts you can install in your deck, and it's AWESOME!!! But it is expensive unfortunately. This cover can hold an elephant according to the commercials lol. I have never actually tested that theory, but I do know for a fact it will hold a ton of snow in the winter, and it's great for keeping leaves and stuff out in the summer. Here is the safety cover incase you are interested: Green 12 x 24 ft Rectangle Safety Cover Sunshade 95 Mesh These are the anchors I used for the cover in the wooden deck, that screw out or in almost flush: Safety Cover Parts Wood Deck Anchors (Bag of 20) These were on Poolsupplycanada's site, so I'm not sure how much they are outside of Canada, but I'm guessing they would be cheaper in the US. 1 more tip I forgot above, and I'll edit my post and add it to there as well, but a lot of people get the blue bubble cover to keep the leaves out and to help warm and insulate the pool, BUT the clear thicker bubble cover does a way better job and it heats the pool a noticeable amount more than the blue one does! I figured, probably like most other people, that the blue would work better because it was a darker color, but nope, I read it in a few places online and tried it out and the clear thicker one is way better and worth the small extra amount of money it costs for sure! Here is the clear solar cover that works awesome, and I also got it from PoolSupplyCanada: 12 x 24 ft Rectangle Clear Premium Solar Cover 14 mil

I'd advise you to upgrade to hard plumbing with that setup. Flex is not hard. It is a pain in the butt and way more expensive than hard pipe.
@rcppop3090
@rcppop3090 16 дней назад
Reason for the flex pipe is because it is a soft sided above ground pool and the pool flexes a lot when swimming and splashing around. I imagine solid pvc would be too stiff and may cause the pool liner to tear over time and the flexible pvc has more give

@@rescuerhonda0164 …..EVERYTHING!!! It’s 100% easier. No red eyes or faded bathing suits. It’s safer….no chemicals on your skin or mouth. Doesn’t taste like your swimming in Clorox. The saltwater pump system does everything for you. You just dump 40lbs bags of salt depending on the gallons of your pool. Mine is pretty big so it takes 4 bags. Set it and leave it. Best investment ever. No more chemicals to buy.

@@rescuerhonda0164 zero slime!! You can buy an intex saltwater pump and sand filter combo or you can just add a saltwater system to any pump you already have.
