Thanks very informative appreciate it liked and subscribed I will not go this summer with the small pump that comes with the pool the first one worked me and burnt out two months into enjoying our summer fun with our pool now I have the same pump going get a new pool and enjoy the summer heat in Texas y’all all be safe and enjoy the sunshine in y’all pool 🙏❤️🙏
Great video thank you! Just hooked up the sand filter to my stock tank but the water flow isn’t great? So when I was backwashing it was just a trickle…any help is greatly appreciated
I use the adapter that came with the intex surface skimmer that converts one of the inlets to a 1.5” hose adapter. Basically this adapter below. amzn.to/3WKPcba Then I use a standard 1.5” hose with hose clamps and a pole connected to a cheap pool vacuum like this. amzn.to/3q521AD
Can you do a video on how you connect everything on the vacuum and the proper way to connect it to the pump? Your videos are super helpful! Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing, very informative. Question for you. I have a Bestway Steel Pro Max 12x30 pool and took your advise on the sand filter. The problem I'm having is mounting the large Inlet air nozzle to the pool. The port on the pool is smaller. How did you get around it? Did you buy an adaptor or a smaller Inlet air nozzle? If so can you share the size I need.
I upgraded the inlet. You can check out how it’s done and the part needed in the video description of this video. How to convert 1.25" to 1.5" hoses to upgrade your Intex pump. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IpyVM8cjB1U.html There are adapters available on Amazon to be able to connect the 1.5” hose to the 1.25” inlet, but I didn’t want to restrict the flow of the pump at all.
Need help with attaching skimmer hosento inside of my pool which is 1 1/4 inch whole and the tube that came with my skimmer along with attachment head for inside pool is too large. 🙄
When your done running in filter mode and put it in closed mode, should you turn all hose valves to close? Right now my 2 inlet hoses connected to the t-vavle do not have the closed open valve so it leaks from the pre-filter going into the pump.
I upgraded my pump from a previous setup so not all of the connections are the same. I had to order a different tee to adapt to the 1 1/2 for the pump and I upgraded the nozzle that returned back into the pool.
I use a Intex sand filter, it's a game changer!!!! I highly recommend it!!!!! My pool is always sparking clear, everyone comments on how good my pool looks. I don't really fuss with chemicals to much either. Chlorine and shock, once in a while i adjust the PH.
I haven’t considered the salt water system only because I don’t like salt water, which is just a personal preference. And to clear the water I just added the iron removal product and let the pump run. You will need to vacuum anything left on the bottom and backwash after a day for the iron but the pump cleared the iron really well.
I followed the same process and the pressure in my pump is below the green line. Nothing comes out and the numbers on the pump say 0.0 when I turn it on, how can I fix this?
Depends on what pool you started with. Since I was upgrading from a small pool I had to upgrade the outlet port that goes back to the pool to 1.5” from 1.25”. You can check out my other video on that. And I also had to upgrade the tee that joins the two 1.25” inlets to a 1.5” hose to the pump.
Yes you still need chlorine tablets with a sand filter. I use the large chlorine pucks in a floater and add them as needed after testing. Without the chlorine after a while the pool will turn green from algae.
My pool isnt pushing water around in filter mode. Could you tell me what i need to do? Am I supposed to leave the black hose connected while the pump is in filter mode?
@@lukesparrow2151 I actually bought this pump used so unfortunately I can’t tell you exactly what extra parts came in the box. You can find the extra parts needed however on my video on how I upgraded from 1.25” to 1.5” hoses for a larger pump.
I have the same pool, just got it this summer. I want to switch to a sand filter soon! Does it matter that the pump flow rate is a lot higher on that pump for that size of a pool?? Any issues with that set up?
My intex hose inlets on the pool are way smaller? How do you hook up the big pump connections to the pools smaller inlets/outlets? My pool is 8’ x 16’. Plenty big for this type of pump. WTH am I doing wrong?
Check out the parts I listed in the description. Use this tee to go from your 1 1/4 inlets to 1 1/2 pump. Intex 11872 Replacement Dual Split Hose Plunger Valve Pool Part Accessory Attachment for Above Ground Pool and Pool Pump Maintenance a.co/d/3eucXZB
You’ll also need to change the outlet that goes back into your pool to an 1 1/2 valve. Check out my video on how to upgrade to 1 1/2 to upgrade your pump.
Hello😊 what is the diference betwen this sand pumb and inteks small pump with filter? I have that small filter pump but I am not satisfated its always green water and I must buy new. Hugs from Serbia❤
The sand filters the water a little finer and you normally don’t have to change the sand out for the entire season as long as you backwash the filter every so often. My small filter had a hard time keeping my pool clear, but when I switched to the sand filter and stayed on top of the chlorine levels my pool stayed clear all last Summer. I definitely think it’s a worth while upgrade from the small cartridge filters.
I keep finding sand at the bottom of my pool and its a brand new Intex pump. Intex sent a new top piece (valve) and pipe (not laterals). I replaced both and sure enough, sand still in the pool? I'm so frustrated. I am using #20 sand. Any help would be very appreciated.
Great videos from when you first set up the pool and improving it over time! I’m curious, have you thought of or considered replacing the flexible pool hoses with pvc pipe?
I’ve thought about it. Could give me some options with adapting a makeshift pool heater or other things. But with the size of my pool I haven’t found the need to do something like that just yet, and I don’t think there would be much benefit besides durability over the flexible hoses that I’m currently using.
Filling the filter up with water is just to be precautious. You’ll be fine. If anything after you turn on your pump monitor it to see if you need to stop it and release any air and you’ll be good.
Some small traces are going to be inevitable. Some sand while filling it up could make it’s way through the filter. As long as it doesn’t continue I wouldn’t worry about it much, but it does mean you’ll have to vacuum it a bit if you want it spotless.
Depends on how much. It could clog the fins at the bottom of the pole/filter making it harder to work, which over time could possibly damage the pump. If it wasn’t a lot I wouldn’t worry, but if you put in sand without a cover over the center and a lot of sand got in you may end up having to dump all of the sand out and start over which wouldn’t be ideal. If you didn’t fill it with water yet you could try a shop vac with long extensions to get the sand out of the center though. Just a thought.
Great video which I will review a few more times after in the sandy State of Michigan I can find sand for this pump!!!!!! No number 20 Silica sand in the whole state ! I can find HTH pool filter sand about 45 minutes away will that work ?
I just got this pump recently (the 2800) and it’s been awesome. I have ran the skimmer as well…my set up looks just like this one. I just ran my first backwash and now I am getting air and I don’t know why. I have re checked all connections. I have even disconnected my skimmer as I heard in this video that it may cause air. Any ideas anyone???
I just set up my pump again and was recently getting a little air in the system and it was because one of my hose connections, even though it was tight, didn’t have the o-ring. I fixed the o-ring connection and that solved the problem. So my best guess is the air may be coming in from a connection. The only other rare though is if it’s coming in from the backwash port. When you are rotating the selector on the pump the pump needs to be turned off because there is a gasket inside that could potentially get shifted and cause issues with the selector. Again much more rare for this to happen, but if you’ve checked all your hoses try putting the cap back on the backwash port to see if the air is coming from there.
Also with the skimmer make sure the other inlet is cracked open a little so that the pump can draw in enough water instead of only water from the skimmer. I’d say keep the one side like 90% closed. Hope this helps.
Sounds like there could be an issue with the selector valve on top of the filter. Besides trying to fix the valve, in the meantime I would check to see if you have that black rubber gasket on the backwash valve under the cap, which would help with leaks. Or you could try some plumbers tape on the threads of the backwash outlet before putting on the cap to keep it sealed as well.
That does not sound normal. Double check that all of your valves are open and that you’ve bled the air out of the pump using the relief screw on the top of the pump. I’d then check for any obstructions in the hoses or filter basket, etc.
There should be a large black o-ring that sits directly under the lid to the leaf basket on the pump. If yours doesn’t have one or is damaged you’ll need to replace it. Amazon does sell replacement o-rings for the pump. Check it out below. amzn.to/46eQ8Zq
It did not come with the hose. That is a separate 25 foot sump pump hose that I picked up from Menards. I believe I have the hose adapter listed in the description as well.
Great video, I've just upgraded my filter cartridge pump to a more powerful one and it's still garbage. So I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and go for a sand system. Only issue is my 12ft Intex prism frame has only one inlet and outlet port. Can I still use one of these systems?
thank you I think we answered our own ? regarding the use of HTH pool filter sand. For use with in-ground or above-ground swimming pool sand filters. Restores filter efficiency and is compatible with salt systems. Silica sand, 0.45 to 0.55 particle size, 20 grade.
I have a Bestway pool but can't find the valves for that brand would you say these valves work for any pool not just Intex? I will be getting the same sand filter that you have.
Both brands are pretty similar. You could pick up some replacement plunger valves on Amazon as well as some intex type b adapters if the valves need to be screwed instead of clamped on. Check the links in my video description for some of those parts. You should be able to piece together some new valves for your pool.
The valve on the outlets are more of a convenience than anything. And I leave my discharge hose connected all the time, but you could put the cap back on if you don’t want the discharge port exposed.
The sand is specifically “pool filter sand”. You can find it at pool stores or hardware stores like Menards, Home Depot, or Lowe’s. Walmart may even sell it. And I add water to the filter to keep any air from getting trapped on the initial startup and so that it’s easier on the pump motor when you initially start it up.
Maybe some air got into the system. Try bleeding out the air using the set screw on top of the basket. Make sure all of your valves are open so water can flow through. Then when it’s full of water turn the pump back on.
I have questions. Can you run the skimmer basket directly to the pump? Do you have to have the 3rd hole cut into the side of the pool. Is the outlet always higher than the inlet? Thank you.
Yes when you take the plastic lid off there is supposed to be a black o ring that goes around the lip of the lid before you put it back on and screw it down. Here’s an o ring kit below if you need one. amzn.to/3NJnyID
@@Type5Reviews I have two tiny black o rings on the part where you connect the basket to the actual pump motor. I didn’t know if there is supposed to be another one maybe on the inside where you screw it to the motor.
Do you know if you can use filtra balls? I have an intex sand filter and we got it 3 days ago, we went and got the balls because I saw other vids saying that they worked.
I don’t have any experience with those filter balls but from what I’ve read on the negative side of the reviews a lot of them say the debris goes straight though the gaps between the balls. Sand works really well because it packs together tightly so only water gets through and leaves the junk behind. If you have large gaps between the filter balls then the water will take the path of least resistance and they won’t filter anything out unfortunately.
Is there any setting that allows it to do it daily without you having to turn it on even if it’s just for five hours? In other words how do I do it if I wanna run it every night for five hours? If you said it with the method you showed by constantly pressing the button until you get the certain amount of hours, it still stops indefinitely after that no?
The number on the display is for how long it will run daily. If I set that number to 5 it will run for 5 hours and then shut off until the same time the next day when it will start and run for 5 hours. Unfortunately you can’t select a start time so if you wanted it to run in the evening you’d have to go out and turn it on once then it will always start back up in the evening.
