I upgraded to this pump but I can’t see any water coming through the filter basket is that normal?

It you don't have any air in the hose, you won't see any water movement in the basket. As long as you feel suction at the inlet and see a jet of a water going back into the pool on the outlet side, you're good.

Do you have to buy a conversion kit for the hoses? Not sure what pool you have. I have Coleman 18x48

I have a BestWay 20'x48". I can't remember exactly but know I reused some of the hoses. And I had adapters on hand so it was easy.

It has a timer but for more control it's best to use a smart plug with it.

How is the noise dB wise standing at 5 feet?

I'm not sure the exact db but it's not loud. You'll hear it, but it's not deafening.

Did you install a pool skimmer basket or was the sand pump good enough?

I installed a pool skimmer basket to catch floating bugs & dirt before they sink to the bottom. You don't have to vacuum as much with the pool skimmer basket.

May I ask how much sand would u recommend

I usually get two 50lb bags of pool sand from a local pool supply store. Then I fill it to the max fill line. It usually takes just a little over 1 bag. You could get away with 1 bag probably.
