For me, what gives me energy is: -meditating -reading and learning (ALONE!) -dancing to music on my own -Learning about MBTI and abstract concepts (my current obsession) -working out (guess what? Again on my own eheh)

Me too! It took me a long time to admit to working out lol

….are you me? This energy issue has been plaguing me my entire life, honestly (I’m an INTJ and believe I’m also an enneatype five or four wing five) and I’ve never known what to do with it or how to get myself to *do the thing*. Thank you so much for your advice! This is potentially life-changing information. Seriously.

This has been a problem for me for some time now, but there are times I have lots of energy. I get more energy if I sleep enough hours at night, if I get deep sleep, if I don’t eat too much carbs, if I do aerobics in the morning, if I get inspiration like from a youtube video, if I do deep breathing, if I have breakfast, if I’m not feeling hopeless and if I’m being productive.

I’ve watched a few of your videos. Great job. You explain things well. I wanted to comment on the “getting started”aspect. I am also an INTJ and find myself struggling to start tasks, especially those that I don’t really want to do such as cleaning. You mentioned you like to do step one the day before. I’ve found that, for me, if I start any step I feel inclined to continue. So, if I were to do step one the night before, it’s likely I’d be in “go mode” and just complete the project necessary that day. It really is a frustrating aspect of our personality. I find I don’t want to do anything unless I feel like it lol.

I think incorporating low glycemic foods will help INTJs tremendously with energy management. As an INTJ, I notice my diet plays a HUGE role in keeping my energy levels up. When I eat low glycemic foods, I feel more focused, more ready to socialize, and I'm more productive. But when I eat high glycemic or high fat foods, I just crash, and it takes like 2 hours to recover. This is because high glycemic foods spike your sugar levels causing your energy levels to crash, while low glycemic foods release a steady stream of energy throughout your day. If I really want to get things done, I skip breakfast all together. When I do that, I get so much accomplished and then lunch serves as a treat for my hard work. I'm at my best when my blood sugar level is in check (and no I'm not diabetic). I might have to suffer through hunger for a few hours, but I'm overall more pleasant and more productive. The difference in my energy is like night and day.

iNTP here thanking you for the free therapy (which has been considerably more useful than my paid therapy!). I always thought it was easier for INTJs, but I guess enneagram really matters. Also I suspect these high-powered brains blow through energy faster than normal brains. There are so many good ideas here... but I am a lazy INTP, so I'm thinking the best answer is a daily IV of glucose and caffeine!

This is so very interesting. I often think of exercise as ‘yeah its good for me but not interested’. But you’ve reminded me I’m thinking regardless of what I’m doing, and in fact that zone you can get in when exercising probably helps synthesising ideas intuitively.

INTJ type 1 here. Some comments and interesting similarities: 2:40 I love imagining a new project and where I can be, but I struggle with the start up. Once I get it going with a plan I can sustain it. 3:54 absolutely, for me learning is natural coupled with "staying at rest" or being in a calm peaceful state in my own words. Not much energy is expended. 5:28 yesss I have to ensure my energy is put to the best use because it can drain quickly particularly with social or stressful situations. So I'm very selective in how I use my energy. But it's a constant battle in where to dedicate this limited energy. 7:18 wow yes analysis paralysis on very important decisions. I can analyze and do cost benefit analysis for weeks. Extremely energy draining as I'm looking at how choosing each option will determine what happens after. I think though I usually do have a gut feeling on what to do, but still analyze to ensure gut feeling is the best decision. I've learned through a recent experience that I should have gone with my gut feeling instead of overanalyzing. 8:08 a perfect decision is usually my issue as well...particularly with important decisions where I feel I need to look at all possible future scenarios with each decisions and how they'll likely to play out. I feel that I may regret the decision so I sit on it for weeks to ensure the "perfect" decision has been made. My latest of these decisions has been the right one in hindsight with no regrets. 13:38 also minimalist..wonder if it has to be due to efficiency for you also? The less I have, the less I have to clean, upkeep, etc so I can focus on my goals. Plus I like open space, not clutter or disorganization. 16:00 totally!! Setting up feels like a drag to me if I need to do it the actual work right after it. If I do the set up say the day before, I like to just jump in the next day. Otherwise I'll have the loss of drive you were saying.

Our relationship with time is like a fixed amount of money. We can conserve money and feel secure having more of it, but inflation is always stealing it away. And if we never spend money we don't ever acquire the things, experiences, or skills that are actually valuable to us, that are good for us or other people. If we never spend our time it's like having a room full of cash we don't plan to spend. Sure it feels good having it, but what good is it if it does no work?

I love to go to the gym in our community center first thing in the morning, like 8am when they open. Since we have to wear covid masks while exercising and breathing heavily and deeply, I open all the windows and turn both big fans on high, then work out hard for an hour. The early morning also offers alone time (recharge) so I don't have to deal with killjoys who waltz in, shut the windows, complain about how "cold" I have made things (only about 60F, still way too warm for any real gym), then *itch to management about the temperature. Working out alone after some coffee gives me the energy I need to get thru most days....

I think you are spot on with the second function since it's opposite to the first function in tems of extrovertion or introvertion it can be hard to get into but you still don't suck at it and you get motivated or satisfied after doing it , im an INFJ so it's Fe i don't like small tslk but if i could mame any social situation work or harmonize the way i intended for it to i get that satisfaction and energy after it to do more with Fe

It is weird to me that "overanalyzing" is seen as such a bad thing. If you map out all the possibilities before and after an event, it is not just about the solution then and there -but having built kind of a circuit board in your brain that can input/output similar events in the future (as well as improving your general crystalized and fuzzy understanding of the concepts). I spent an entire weekend after an important meeting at work once in complete nuclear meltdown mentat mode to successfully break down all the new data/impressions and store the various resulting models and vectors. (If you don`t have the time for this then well, bypass and apply Te as reductionist as needed / Ni course correct - We do have that off switch) As for energy.. improve your Se, find the right diet, exercise, harness your Fi. We are Volcanos and not some matchstick. Keep drama, malice and stupidity at arm`s length as that can be our kryptonite in this regard. Make time to reflect, not just absorbing more data. Personally, I also each day try to take a little tine to enjoy something beautiful.. it is weird but it adds a kind of rejuvination and positivity that is easy to miss out on.
