I liked our way of farming. Neat to learn that haudenosaunee domesticated bears from cubs and plump them up to enjoy later like Japanese tribes back in the day...
This is a gift. Do you have xany book recommendations on the colonial period in New England , especially in regards to clashes with the native population
Very interesting. I have ancestors from that neck of the woods. The Dutch intermarried with the German Palatines. I recognize many of the names. The Dutch and Indigenous would send a child to be raised in the other’s communities. I believe that is the true origin of Joseph Brant. He is not an ancestor of mine, but is a relation of several of my DNA matches and none of them have indigenous dna. I’ve always thought he was Dutch.
I think the term savage was meant to describe them as being wild. In Spanish we say “salvaje” which literally translates to savage, however means “to be wild” or “feral”.
No, maybe cousins but Humphrey was a descendant of Teunis Bogaert and Sara Rapalje. That family is important in their own right because Joris Rapalje and Catalantje Trico were the first couple to produce a child in New Netherlands and have lots of descendants.
