So yeah, last week WE WERE LUCKY, and it’s a good lesson in anchoring whilst not suffering the consequences, so Ill call that a win, win. After all, we don’t learn without mistakes. Now that the anchor is up and we are safely in a few hundred feet of water, where exactly are we going? Well this is the beginning of our first overnight passage on Boundless. We will be sailing across the Gulf of Panama in a westerly direction, making sure to dodge the shipping traffic along the way. And you’re in for a treat because the beauty of Panamas Western Pacific coast is on our short list of the most beautiful sights ever. Even when the weather changes and we get chased out of our anchorage, the dolphins come out to play, highlighting the silver lining of the moment.
So, just like that we were off, threading Boundless between a few outlying islands making sure to double check our charts before hitting the open ocean. We are expecting very calm conditions and possibly motoring the entire day and night, but with the huge tidal currents, and high winds forecasted that oppose them for half of every day over the next week, this is exactly what we were looking for to cross the Gulf of Panama and round Punta Mala. We’ve had an epic adventure buying Boundless, transiting the Panama Canal, and cruising the San Blas and las Perlas islands, but this moment feels different. Like we’ve truly untied the lines and set off on a grand adventure into the unknown. Who will we meet? What will we see? Where will we go and how long will we stay?

This is my second ever time watching sea wind. Absolutely extraordinary photography, cinematography, and fabulous music. Really really well done. I love the way you explain things what you’re doing why you’re doing it etc. Katie, I’m so sorry that you got bit by such a nasty whatever that was Hope the effects of it were not long lasting. Look forward to the next one. Fairwinds at your back. Sending love from LIZ in California.🤟🏻😎💜⛵️🇺🇸

You two are so rewarding to watch, thank you for the videos. I happened to research Assassin Bugs recently, for some odd reason, it is good to know the bite is as painful but benign as they said. Apparently only bite (humans) when 'threatened'. They eat other bugs so probably good to have one on board.
@SailingSeawind

I think we have a gecko or two living in our bilge which is good for bugs too 🤣 It was scary when she got bit in the middle of the night, 20 miles offshore. Makes us think about allergic reactions in remote places!
@SamuelKTennis
@SamuelKTennis 3 месяца назад
@@SailingSeawind Ohj I can imagine how worrisome that could be. I had read the bite was very painful but not toxic or venomous (the change of allergies aside). After this episode, if I ever stick my foot in a shoe, or under a bean bag, and get bit I will feel a bit less trepidation. Than you for 'breaking the ice'. ;-)

I never have removed the skin on salmon and steelhead when fishing in the northwest, nor store bought. Highest concentration of omega-3, collagen and other nutrients. Plus the crispy taste is delicious to me - adds some texture. Rub some olive oil on the skin before cooking to prevent sticking. Yum! You are sailors on the ocean - enjoy the bounty of the sea! I recently bought a salmon fillet for $17/lb! 😁

Yes, I've sailed overnight. My longest was from Nuka Hiva in the Marquesas to Panama City. At one point, we were on the same tack for over 2 weeks. I love the ocean when you can see nothing but water, clouds, and stars at night. I felt for you watching this passage. I hate motoring. But the northern trip from Panama to Baja is just that. I think the best route for that is to sail to Hawaii, then north to catch the northern winds into California.

When possible, swing by a floating log or stump when you have a fishing line in the water. Smaller fish stay by the flotsam with the bigger fish circling around.

Skining a fish is pretty easy. You first cut it from the bones (that's the difficult part). Then you lay one half fish skin side down on your cutting board. You start at the tail cutting with a big knife slightly angled towards the cutting board. For a quite large fish like the one you caught, you could also cut steaks. Cutting the steaks from the bones is pretty easy. And then again skin side down and cutting along the cutting board.

Your videos have a delicious, peaceful quality. Parker's voice is not the same, but his speech patterns remind me of Marty Stauffer (sp?), easy to listen to and clearly spoken. Katy is rich in peace and always lovely. If I had a wife like her, I'd quit work and stay home. Oh! You have! Fair winds, and maybe I'll see you out there as I am leaving for my journey in July.

Haha!! When we first went sailing on Boundless, before the new halyards and spraying a dry teflon lubricant on the mainsail slides in the track, it was SO much harder to hoist the sail! It's much better now, but it is still a much higher hoist than Seawind 😬

We have jack lines, haven't set them up yet. Shame on us really, but thankfully the weather was calm and there wasn't any situations that we needed to go forward for other than hoisting the main. We were tethered into the cockpit!

Hey, there is nothing wrong with taking the life of any animal, as long as you use it to nourish your body. God gave us domain over all animals for a reason, especially fish. It's when we hunt for sport that it's a problem. But the thrill of the hunt is always fun and exciting. Nice job reeling that delicious Mahi -mahi in, one of my favorite fish to eat.
